I'm surprise that people dont talk about this guy more. Maybe he should do a COD soundtrack so they would take him more seriously. Not that i am saying its a good things, it just seems that is the only way to get people to talk about your music
John Powell did a very great job with How to train your dragon, his music makes me cry, especially the track "Forbidden Friendship", it's my favorite !!! :,)
Chicken Run, Shrek, Ige Age 2, Robots, Kung Fu Panda, Horton Hears a Who, How to Train Your Dragon, and Rio was my best movie scores from John Powell! Agree with Me?
I can't wait to rent to the films that I haven't yet seen with him composing. How To Train Your Dragon and Shreks are my favorite so far :) BEAUTIFUL music!
@laughingspirit13 If there's a person more upset than me that Powell lost for "How to Train Your Dragon", I have yet to meet them. That was unabashed robbery and I truly hope that the people responsible are brought to justice.
@thistleinfotech Even if that is true, a comparison between the two cannot be made - it's not like with like. Hans Zimmer is about big powerful tracks that build up a scene...Powell is more about easy listening tracks that don't take over scenes in film....which isn't necessarily a bad thing. They're both wonderful composers, different and unique sounding - thus no need for debate over which is better.
One of Powell's really great scores if from a little known sports film called Endurance. It's turly epic and cause of its african tones and instruments makes me think of the World Cup
