  • Great guitarplayer! He looks a bit like the young Judge Reinhold :D That's cool!

  • What rhythm is he playing at around 0:53?? i've heard Metheny do the same thing and I'm very curious.

  • @fluffhead059

Sounds like he is counting 7 over 3 and 5 over 3. Basic triplet time, with more notes in the same duration. This is a common way of playing out then in then out, etc.. Great player.

  • He is unbelievable. I love this video. Well done Mr. Rogers.

  • Fabulous playing.

  • Adam Rogers is one hell of a player!

  • Adam is one of the nicest cats i have ever met. I've known him for many years. he has always been super cool.

  • he is a amazing player. during his clinic, he just jammed out for a couple minutes then talked about his gear. it was cool though. i think when i worked with him, he was kinda tired from doing like a 2 hour set with kenni holmen. it was kinda boring, but some really good music. it was funny watching him trying to tell our guitar player that he was playing all his rythem parts wrong. he is a genius though.

  • I don't see the 'Jerk' comment, but Adam is shy and one of the nicest guys you'll meet. He's never been a jerk to me.. Someone has something up their ass... Adam's a great person... and ripping guitarist!

  • Who cares? all that matters here is how he plays... he is absolutely phenomenal. Love the vid.

  • damn there is some hate going on this vid.....all I know is dude is a cold blooded gtr man, jerk or not. Tone, feel and chops. what elso do you want?

  • Impresionante!!!!! lo baje y lo guarde en mi PS3

  • what happends with his sound at 2:10? sounds like he changes pickups, but i don't see this. maybe he changes angle of pick attack or something.. anyone

  • my guess is probably something in the tv studio-maybe they changed to a different mic or the guy in the studio put his elbow on the eq button by mistake!

  • im 99% its the camera angle/mic moving, haha! i totally hear what your talking about though! sounds like he coil taps the humbuckers but his hand doesnt move?!

  • I have to agree I've known Adam and played with him for many years and I never known him to be anything but a cool and humble dude.

  • this guy STOLE!!! money from a 7-11 last year in Pittsburgh, Pa. His attorney struck a plea deal on a first offense and now i guess we get this solo. Real classey.

  • you say he stole money?

dude he is a jazz musician how do you think those guys eat? ;-0

  • where did you get this?

  • I highly doubt that. Where did you hear this? Also, are you from Pittsburgh? That would explain why you spelled classy wrong...

  • he is a jerk. He was at the morris jazz fest last night. my school jazz band performed there and he reviewed us. then i went to his guitar clinic and he was kinda boring and was really full of himself.

  • I've known Adam for many years. What you've shared amazes and angers me.

I find him most humble, friendly and warm.

  • Well maybe you were really dense and he was tired of trying to dull genius down to your level... there's a shot of reality.. he's great and you probably suck Mr. 'Highschool'

  • hipnotizante!

  • Beautiful, beautiful sound ... Such an inspired solo !!!

    Awesome, as they say ;)

  • man this solo gives me chills over and over again! is this concert avaliable on dvd or cd? was thinking about transcribing it and checking out some of his lines =)

  • Man he's so awesome...but I was so disappointed when my buddy met him and said he was a total jerk and didn't even give him an autograph.

  • Oh yeah Rogers is exactly that kind of man.

  • I didn't have that experience at all. He was really cool and talked about his charts with me. Maybe your buddy came across negatively. You can't let another person's opinion mess something up for you. if YOU meet him and he's a dick, then you can say that... but word of mouth isn't a great way to form opinions.

  • Everyone has days they don't want to talk to random people, it probably has nothing to do with coming across negatively. Jazz groupies are pretty annoying sometimes anyway.

Maybe his friend was actually talking to Judge Reinhold, which may explain the behavior.

  • @Saxyman14 same here. he was really welcoming, and we talked pedals for a bit - not an asshole whatsoever.

  • I've met him a couple of times, and honestly he seemed like a pretty nice guy....

  • The transition between solo and comping is just beutiful, what a classy player Adam is :) Best, Sandemose

  • does anyone know if it is possible to get this performance/concert on DVD? thanks

  • I second this question!

  • Where's the rest if it???!!?!

  • shit i ment "Train"

  • adam is without question one of the best guitarist around. His work on Chris Potter's cd Follow The Red Line is incredible. The solo on the track "Trian" is just so beautiful.

  • Yes, what an outrageous record! I agree, his playing on it is him at his very best. I love hearing the yelps in the audience when he screams the upper-register notes out in 'Pop Tune #1.' That audience definitely knew what's up...

  • technique is killin

i don't understand why he plays in that position though, especially for a classicaly trained cat. watching his left wrist makes me cringe. ive seen other guitar players like martino play with that same 90 degree thing. anyone know why?

  • probably feels most natural and comfortable to him. Adam's classically trained as well but really it all comes down to natural feel.

  • Better angle for using the pinky finger. His thumbs wrapped over the neck in other videos to bend strings. Here he's playing basically post bop with few bends so it gives a better angle. Try it.

  • He has to be careful about that wrist - I see what you're saying. If he stretches to much in that position he might develop some nasty inflammation. Seems OK though.

  • I've wanted a decent look at his picking hand for a long time.

As I suspected...the benson underhand grip. But with a twist in the speed work...he holds the pick normal in ascending lines, but hyperextends the first knuckle of his index finger for descending lines.

Also check out the efficiency of movement in his left hand. Wow.

PS...his technical ability is barely hinted at in this video. It gets even better.

  • yeah -- pretty crazy stuff. his picking work is unbelievable. check out Bruce Dunlap - makes Adam's chops look like a Disney movie.

  • Does this mean that the pick's angle is rotated 90 degrees from the conventional picking angle? I'm having a hard time getting the Benson grip- it seems to force the opposite side of the pick's tip from the conventional: Downstrokes will move thru the string slightly on the right side of the pick's tip and left on the upstroke. I must get this grip!!!

  • If you like this, you'll also like Wolfgang Muthspiel. There sure are a lot of talented people out there!

  • and ben monder and jonathon kreisberg!

  • Anybody know if this band ever cut a record?....adams is so bad!

  • no, adam was on brecker's Wide Angles

  • Wow!!

  • thanks for posting. i love adam. he's one of the greats.

  • Ridiculous.

  • Amazing playing by Adam Rogers!

  • I will put more shortly!

  • sick.

  • Great!! Thank You

  • Men, tell me you have more from adam rogers, favorite guitar player.
