The scene where you are driving on the edge a cliff is not from test drive, test drive stole it from Sega. It's original appearance is in Sega's turbo, an excellent driving game for it's time (1980 or 81). I used to play it in the pizza shop when I was a kid.

The full motion mini car cab for this game was the best! Those huge banks almost threw you out on the floor! It made it 10x more fun, its difficult to play it now without it, not the same. Maybe i'll find one some day.

They sort of overextended themselves. Sega a lot of the time felt that they were more of an arcade game company than a console company. Which they have said a few times.

I loved this game as a kid, I used to play it at our local chuck e cheeze all the time. I remember doing some button combination that ended up turning the sonic keychain into a blue and white penguin, but I cannot seem to locate how it was done online, and it seems no one online has even seen this penguin!

I grabbed it for mame and have been trying everything I can to get the penguin to appear again, but no luck. Anyone here know what I am talking about? its the penguin from doki doki.

You know, this game reminds me of Cruis'n USA. I mean, you drive across the USA on a continuous route, racing against cars that are mostly the same, while avoiding traffic, and you can drive across each city in a small amount of time.

... On a side note, Outrunners is sorta like Cruis'n World...

I have to say... I love both this video and the second part. I've seen this game before at a restaurant. Just never played it. Very informative and entertaining in this Let's Play. That even includes you talking about the banked turns. It was a lovely example of Sega's power to push details on track and such to the limit to make stellar games. It had features most other games in that time didn't have.

Probably not interesting, but since you mentioned it, Kansas City is in Missouri, although there is a small city on the eastern Kansas border called Kansas City as well.  Also, it's on the Missouri River. St. Louis is on the Mississippi. Sorry, former Missourian! And I wish it took 50 seconds to get from LA to Vegas. It takes me about 5 1/2 hours! Anyway, great video!

Round 7 with the rain was always fun. I'd wait and wait before turning on the wipers. It always was a net loss

I also loved the fact that if time ran out at the end of a stage and you were ALMOST at the checkpoint the car would roll to a complete stop after the timer hit 00, which could just be enough to roll you past the checkpoint and keep going.

I found an arcade Rad Mobile after several years and had a 00 roll into stage 7 and somehow finished 7 with an even CLOSER 00 roll, by a few feet!

Actually, it did but only in Japan for the Sega Saturn. It was not an arcade perfect port (as usual), but a fair one.

I love this game, it definitely takes me back to the days I played this all the time in the arcade.

The sixth stage was tough, as you said it was...I could never get past it without falling off the road.

Yeah, the structure of the game does seem to be odd. Banked turns on normal roads? Getting to LA to Vegas in seconds? Wow.
