Greene even said it was hard to prove you can play when the coach just has you holding a clipboard in practice. Holmgren basically threw away a guy who could have been a great NFL QB just because of some p***ing contest with management.

Robert Edwards was one of the best football players in the SEC in the last 25 years. Devastating runner who played great in the secondary as a converted DB his freshman year. I think he is very comparable to Ronnie Brown, probably faster when back when he was healthy.

not really. miami and ohio state were both undefeated and osu was 13-0 at the end of the season, so even if georgia was undefeated they still might not have gotten a shot at the NC (see auburn of 2004). this is just getting ridiculous; i have the utmost respect for tebow and coach meyer but i just can't stand it when opposing fans talk trash about their rivals, on the internet no less. both teams have been elite in the SEC this decade, so (maybe) we'll just leave it at that.

Wow. Awfully critical of a sophomore who just threw 19 TDs (3 against Florida) and 10 INTs (most in the first half of the season). Give Stafford time. He hasn't had nearly the receivers that Greene did...until AJ Green shows up on campus.

The most overrated QB at Georgia was Quincy Carter hands-down. He was worthless; can't respect a player who throws a game (2000 at S. Carolina)

Yeah, Qunicy stunk but he wasn't one of the top 3 high-school QB's either. As for Stafford throwing more TD's, he's thrown the ball a lot more period. He had 3 sub-50% games last season and several others only a completion or two above that. His footwork and accuracy stink. Don't forget that Greene had receivers who could drop balls with the best of them. The 2003 LSU game stands out with 6 dropped balls in the first half alone. Also, UGA's OL was awful in Greene's last two seasons.

Gibson had speed but hands like his needed toes on the end of them. That probably has a lot to do with why he has done nothing in the NFL. Greene got no help from the O-line in his last two seasons as they gave up more sacks than any other SEC team. How he played after that LSU game is testament to his toughness because he got hammered that entire game.

Shockley??? You can't be serious. Even Bob Griese said Shockley's mechanics were "really bad." Shockley was the king of throwing the ball at receivers' feet. Even Shockley's own father said D.J. "didn't take care of the ball when he ran with it." Does anyone else not remember D.J. being the best player Tech had on the field when Greene broke his thumb in his last game and Greene came back in (with a broken thumb) to save the game?

You remember the next year when he proved most of his doubters wrong by throwing 24 TD passes against 5 INTs, and leading UGA to an unlikely SEC Championship? I loved Greene. He was one of the most clutch to ever play at UGA. Stafford can get there but he isn't there yet. Shockley's loyalty to the program stuck out in my mind with him. Anyone remember what he did with the only pass Richt let him throw against F$U in the 2003 Sugar Bowl? He threw a 37 yard TD pass. He was fantastic.

First, let's not forget that over 1/5 of those TD's came in a first game blowout of Boise State. UGA's receivers also weren't dropping the ball in 2005 like they had the previous two years. I was always amazed at how Shockley could throw a perfect pass and then follow it up with passes so bad that he looked like he's never played QB before or a fumble. His mechanics were awful, much like Stafford. Richt and Bobo have both been critical of Stafford in this respect. UGA's 2008 is up to him.

shockley was a very good quarterback and had an outstanding season considering he started only 1 year. i'll take him as a senior quarterback and win an SEC championship than a qb who won 1 out of 4 of the games he started (joe t).

Apples v. Oranges. With all due respect, D.J. got significant playing time prior to that season. He usually played some every game in his previous three seasons. That's not exactly the same as being a first-year starter. Shockley was a mediocre QB who played out of his mind several games that season. UGA also had a very good running game to keep the pressure off of him. Nice guy but I was glad to see him go. Stafford, on the other hand, seems very arrogant without the skills to back it up.

I remember that play. Everyone including the camera guy thought that play was gonna be stopped at the line, but half a second later Greene stepped back and threw it perfectly to Edwards for the T.D. This year could have been better, but as dawgterfeelgood pointed out Vandy can't really trash talk with their hideous record over the years. Maybe someday they'll actually have a winning season, bless their hearts.
