This was my sisters words to me when I went through a bad divorce 13 yrs ago. always looked at me and sang don't give up. 3 yrs ago she passed away at 46 yrs old, and it was traumatic being there by her side as she lay in a coma. Out of all the artists who have sung this song with Peter, Paula does the second best rendition; the song as sung by Kate Bush has the essence of a lullaby, the quiet whisperings between a man and his wife going through the worst of times.  Many say she does not have emotional impact in her singing, and to them I say they are not listening to her musicality. You can almost feel her voice tightening with pain, hardly able to speak the words needed to be said. Paula's great--but Kate is it!

When I first bought the "Secret World Live" CD back in the early 90's I knew this was what gonna get her off the ground. Peter Gabriel knew Paula Cole was more than good enough to go Solo. And Peter Gabriel is is a musician master in his own right hands down. I didn't know her but boy was I captivated by her voice.

Paula never played it safe, and was a true artist. Today, best we can hope for is Lady Gaga, her uninspired flat dancehall sound with an unflappable sense of style over substance. Paula never needed to wear a dress made of meat; she never had John Lennon's widow or any other political figures there to sing her deserved praises; she never bothered with marketing her name/likeness.

This is by far one of the best live performances of all time - period. The emotion that Paula Cole (who's best work by far is in this performance) is able to produce in her voice in responding to Gabriel is unbelievable. Look at Pete's reaction at the end of the song - he know's she nailed it. She literally blows Kate Bush away!
