I was at Cambridge University in 1987, used to hang out with Syd Barret's doppelganger. Guy called William (Billy) Rood. He looked EXACTLY like young Syd, dressed like a weirdo and took plenty of drugs. The most far-out guy I've ever known. He's a VJ now. You can google him.
