    Customer Reviews:

Better than expected. I thought Acer doesnt make a good quality product but this thing looks amazing. This is the best Ultrabook in Market for the price range. Its pretty fast for surfing web and occasional Microsoft office works. It feels sturdy and has a good battery life. Its very comfortable to ...

  • i've thought about getting one of these strictly for the use of nintendo emulators (GBA, SNES, and N64 Respectivley) is this a good machine to do this on? (also if I got my hands on an external optical drive could I install and run starcraft 1 and warcraft 3 smoothly?)

  • A child can do that. Try replacing the HD, that is the real chore.

  • will improving the ram help me play soldier front very well?

  • @IAmThinkTank No it takes DDR3 1333

  • my fan just died after 10 month of use... any comments on how to replace the cpu fan?

  • @ENJOYOURMATRIXX send it back for warranty

  • do you know haw to repair the black screen problem?

  • @TheErikules prerss ctrl + shift + esc. goto new task. type explorer.exe ???? PROFIT!

  • thx for instructions, just opened mine.

had hdd errors then complete failure after few months.

found the hdd pcb HEAVILY corroded. The pc itself is fine.

  • Super helpful for my US Aspire R3700. Thanks!

  • @IAmThinkTank It takes DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) SO-DIMM laptop memory, up to 4GB (2x2GB). Hope that helps.

  • Helped us a bunch! Thanks for the upload!

  • Thanks. I was hoping that the ram was upgradeable and now I know.

  • nice one

  • Thanks for this video, I appreciate it.

  • Can anyone help please. Can you add an external dvd drive so I can install hard copies of games such as Football Manager???

  • thanks for that dude, gonna bang in a ssd and up the memory to 4gb

  • thanks dude this will really help me add memory

  • Major omission in these instructions.

You have to remove the CPU fan 3 black screws, and then loosen the 4 silver heat sink screws that are screwed into the bottom of the case in order for the motherboard to come out.

How this was left out of the video instructions I don't know.

Unless my Revo 1600 is one in a million. I don't think so.

  • can you change pc case ? I got a aspire revo and I want to change the look..

  • Thanks for putting this out there. The manual is a bit lacking.

  • Be aware, this is only able to support 3GB RAM with the installed Windows XP operating system. If you want to utilize the full 4GB, you will need to install a Windows 7 upgrade.

  • Sweet. If I buy this I plan on upgrading to 4GB RAM, 1TB HDD, and probably replace the GPU (if you know how to, which I do). :D

  • I've noticed that WD do a 1TB - Western digital SCORPIO 1TB SATA 3 GB/S 2.5IN 12.5MM

Could that replace my current drive?

  • how to install windows in it, i dont hv external cd player.

  • @Legendofeddy

I don't have a Revo but I would guess that it will allow installation from a USB stick or USB drive. However, I have no experience of installing Windows this way. My recommendation is forget Windows. OK, the Linux distro that the Revo comes with may not be very good but try 'Linux Mint' or Ubuntu (go for version 10.04 Long Term Support, not 10.1). IMHO Windows is an inferior OS. Why does Google only allow staff to use Linux or Mac? Linux & Mac are built on Unix & are more secure.

  • @technoboi0 i have one, i got it around the first of last yr. it's awesome.. i've used almost every linux distro there is on it.. all wrk fine.. and if you have a external cd-rm that will work, that's what i use.... & linux is not built on unix! it's unix-like..

  • google looks awesome right now.Great video

  • Thanks for the video, but it does not show how to take it apart. How do you replace the hard drive?

    Thanks.

  • until how RAM can we add on? mine's only have 1GB. and what kind of RAM is?

  • @kameb go on crucial and it will auto scan ur pc, and it will tell u waht type of ram and all type of customization u can do to improve ur pc

  • @Philawockeez 10x man. i'll buy a 2GB RAM

  • I like how me spins the thing around.

  • Very Good.. Thankyou... Nie Video...

  • a british japanese accent wtf? nice video though

  • I'm a bigger fan of Mid Size towers.

But, does this Acer Revo have standard LapTop parts?

I know some Desktop Version Computers have LapTop Parts.

I wish they would release a 2.2ghz version, like Mac Mini has. Although 2.4 would be even nicer.

  • Does anyone know what ram it runs off of (I have the older 1gb ram model)

  • According to BestBuy:

    2 GB DDR2 (not DDR or DDR1)

  • @CrewRite There are several different versions.

  • How do i factory reset my ROVE.

    Please help!!

  • dont wanna watch this, this is too scary, i want to disassembly my acer laptop but im afraid ill break something

  • Excellent walk-through! I just upgraded my Aspire One N450 netbook, but had to get a 2GB stick since it only had space for one. But then I thought of my fiance's Aspire Revo and decided "why let the extra RAM go to waste?". So following your steps, it snapped in just fine! Runs great and gives me another reason why I love Acer: Even their cheapest computers are easy to share components with and to fix! Good work man.

  • wow that was easy, thanks for the vid

  • Alright thanks brotha'... I was looking at this damn machine for awhile on how to open it..lol

  • Thanks.

  • Nice commentary - read your discussion on removing HD as well. Do you have the 3610? Do you know if it will accept up to 4gb of RAM? I've heard varying opinions. Thanks.

  • thanks for the video!!

  • Yes thanks this video really help!

  • Excellent vid!! This is really going to may my fiance's computer fly now that I can boost the RAM from 1GB to 4!!!

  • I have replaced the hard drive with a 500GB 7200rpm, but as the HDD screws are underneath I had to completely remove the motherboard.

To do this you must first remove the corner usb board (clip), fan & CPU/GPU heatsink (7 screws).

  • does the revo take ddr3 1333? ..just wondering if there's actually a big enough increase from ddr2 800 to ddr3 1333, thank you.

  • Good tutorial but a credit card is a bit better than a screwdriver, does not mark the soft plastic so easily.

  • @maddog7hoo indeed, I don't like to use a screwdriver anymore - not really good at all actually now that I have more experience doing this.

  • I'm dissapointed it contains a 2.5 hardrive and not a 3.5 as it is much more expensive to upgrade the 2.5 to a 1tb. But i guess thats why it has such a small form factor

  • @netbooked , can you hook it up to an Ipad, Joojoo or any tablet PCs as a monitor?

  • @xiominiac

The iPad won't let you use it for anything. Remember: Apple forces you to use only their products only. Besides, who would be stupid enough to spend $500 to $800 for a halfassed wannabe computer when you could buy an Acer Aspire One N450 netbook for $300 and get 10x more the use out of it? For the cost of an iPad you can get BOTH an Acer Aspire Revo and an Aspire One!

  • @neothespian So true! I have the REVO and i've tried a Acer Apisre One, they would smoke the Ipad.

ipad is just a enlarged itouch nothin new.

  • @betekvs actually the itouch is a shrunken ipad, god did no one see that interview about how it all started with the ipad but steve decided it would be better for a small pocket sized handheld first god... :P

  • @maddog7hoo thanks for the comment

  • are you able to replace the processor aswell?

  • Thank you, this video was a lot of help.

  • There's a problem with the video: the part where you explain about static discharge precautions got cut off. Can you repost it, please?

  • how many inches is acer revo hdd

  • 2,5

  • Thank you very much I am going to buy one, will the acer accomodate a 500GB HDD (2.5")? Or is the biggest you can go 320GB (2.5")?

  • Lot of thanks!! I was looking for how to open the chassis for this mini PC, and i was becoming crazy!

    Thank you a lot!! :)

  • can you upgrade this to windows 7? and can you change the HDD?

  • Comment removed

  • I just bought one with 1 GB of RAM and I needed to know how to open to add another GB. Thanks I'm typing on on it now running 2 GBs Thanks to you.

  • Can you change the atom 230 for an atom 330 dual core? the new aspire revo comes with this

    Thanks

  • The Atom CPU is embedded on the board and isn't removable. It would be really cool if you could though!

  • Will this run HD Footage smoothly on Sony Vegas 9.0 without lagging and everything???

  • The Atom330+Ion Version plays HD Content smoothly, but tbh i wouldn't suggest you to buy a nettop if you're into serious video editing or stuff like that....

  • Do you know if you can change the graphics card to a better

  • you cant

  • Hey guys, i just bought one of these, i love it, but i got the cheap 1gb ram and n230 cpu, i was wondering why i cant reach 30 frames in left for dead 2 and i cant get a stable 35ish frames in counter strike source, would upgrading the ram help the cpu, thus getting better frames... PLZ HELP! Great vid btw 5 stars =)

  • I think upgrading the RAM by itself will only help a tiny bit. You should have gotten the dual core n330 atom CPU as L4D/2 can take advantage of multiple cores. If anything, there's probably an option to increase shared video memory up to 512mb which will be taken out of you RAM so upgrading to at least 2gb of RAM will leave you with about 1.5 gb once you bump up the ION's shared video memory. That's pretty much all you can do because after that it's restricted by the graphics or the CPU.

  • Actually you might be able to overclock the CPU to 2.0 ghz also.

  • wat 4 u wan to take apart if does'nt fit a 5870 radeon as well as a 9400gt card lol

  • also somthing i forgot to ask yesterday can the VGA and HDMI run different moiters each?

  • Yes you can set that up easily. for the HDMI monitor, If you have a monitor with a 16:10 resolution, you will need a HDMI -> DVI plug otherwise only 16:9 resolutions will be available.

  • Thanks for the help :)

  • @netbooked that is not the case in my experience

  • Ive just bought the 'cheapo' one ofr thes with 1gb of ram and a linux operating system but id just like to know if yo canchange the prosseser to dual core or it non removable???

    thanks

  • No you can't change the processor.

  • I bet this thing would scream with a small SSD.

  • scream like david when he went to the dentist

  • What is the Fastest RAM - DDR2-667?With Windows 7 would it be able to use more RAM. I was looking to buy one for a File Server/ TV computer. A new model is going to have dual-ATOM and eSATA. My biggest question can it work as a Media Server if I max the RAM and add a 1TB eSATA? My Plan is to use my TV as a monitor and have it connect to my network. Then connect my 2 laptops and PS3 to it. Thanks for any help.

  • These run on SODIMM DDR2-800 PC6400 laptop memory

  • Any chances of putting a 3.5" inside it? btw, sorry for the poor english =/.

  • Heh, your written English is pretty annoying too. We've got something in common. :)

  • The specs say that the Revo takes DDR2 memory. I just want to make sure before I buy one, that it does in fact use 200pin DDR2 memory?

  • Yes it takes 200-Pin DDR2 533 - 667 RAM fine. Basically any RAM you would use in a laptop.

  • Thank you for the reply, it's greatly appreciated.

I have one more question that I forgot to ask in the original post.

The 2.5" hd that the Revo uses, is it Sata 1.5, 3.0 or IDE?

  • It's SATA but I don't have a clue if it's SATA 1,2 or 3.

  • Mine runs on SODIMM DDR2-800 PC6400 200pin laptop memory.

    You shouldn't get anything slower!

  • Can you give me a link to a ram upgrade for the revo, or tell me exaclty what type of ram it takes, MHz, Pins etc

    Thanks

    Matt

  • YouTube doesn't allow links but just browse any shop's laptop memory section and look for some of the cheapest RAM. It takes 200-Pin DDR2 533 - 667 RAM fine.

  • that is what I wanted

    nice job man...keep on

  • Holy butcher. Just jam a screw-driver in 'er, and get a hammer if she gives you trouble.

  • hehe, that's what they used to do back in the day eh?

  • Very nice I want a bigger HD in it. Only thing for opening the casing / breaking it open. DONT USE A SCREWDRIVER. Just simply buy a cheap gitar plectrum that works great. And doesn't damage the casing.

  • A flat-head screwdriver worked fine for me on the Revo without leaving any marks.

  • thanks lot about this video! :)
