  • r u still a techer

  • About how many schools in Japan are like this? I'm planning on studying abroad, once I get into college, but I've heard that everyone's always studying or working, and that they never have very much fun. Granted that's from vlogs of people that whent to top schools, but what would be my chances of going to a university there, which people would be having fun too? Instead of only doing work.

  • @xSRGDarknessx This was a private alternative "free" school. Most senior high schools are not like this at all. However, you are talking about going to uni here, which, depending on the school, can be quite relaxed. Many students work hard to get into uni, but once there, again depending on the program, spend more time partying and socializing in 'circles' then they do studying. No matter where you end up, you will have opportunities to socialize. No worries.

  • what are you doing this weekend?

    we're going on a date-o. XD

    sho, what are you doing.

  • @TheTrunksdbz Hate to spoil your dream, but in Japan, the average age of 12th graders is the same is in the US. I have been teaching in Japan for more then 15 years, and the average age of students completing senior high is 18 too.

  • You mind telling me how you made it to japan? I really want to go to learn more but, no money to go :( i would be working a job but child labor laws...

  • @xTakehiko How I made it? I took a plane. Haha. Seriously though, most people come here to live working as assistant language teachers in public schools or as teachers at eikaiwa. That's most people's point of entry...

  • @kansaiPJ Cool!!!!!

  • I am in 10th Grade in America

  • Love this video ! ;)

  • Damn, you had a great relationship with these students. As a student myself, I wondered if my teachers ever felt sad inside when a generation of their students left if we clicked so well and had fun moments during our years. On another note, there's some hand play downstairs on this video. Twice. Second one confuses me. Oh well!

  • Great video. Does Shou like Visual Kei? He looks so much like a Visual Kei artist.

  • Your students are awesome! The girl with the mask is so different! What do you mean by normal clothes?

  • She used to where more risqué clothing, so I was happy that she was in something a little more normal for high school.

  • Hi KansaiPJ!! Im from Canada and I would like to know some information about beeing an english teacher in japan.. It is hard to became it? Like do I need to go to university or can I do a LLCE or something like that?

  • To get a working visa, you need to have a 4-yr degree - that is the minimum.

  • No, I don't think so.

  • i wish my teachers were cool like you. lol. and i wanna live in japan. for some reason i'm fascinated by it for some reason. i was wondering can you get good jobs there. teaching isn't really me thing (i can't talk in front of people that well :/ ) Like jobs other than teaching..

  • Thanks for your kind comments. If you want to work in Japan in jobs other than English teaching, you will need a visa-able skill and pretty decent proficiency in Japanese language... good luck!

  • ooh they have holister in japan?

  • don't know what that is... holister?

  • its a store, california based (alisa had a hoodie on that has it's logo

  • what's the name of your school?

I swear I was going to be attending there this year! It seems like the same place.

I got offered to attend a different school in Kobe though and took that up hehe.

  • I can't same the name of the school, for obvious reasons. But it is located near Umeda. Is that the one you were thinking of?

Hope things are going well for you in Kobe!

  • I agree. You're definitely the coolest teacher I've ever seen. Most teachers are way too formal. You seem pretty... chillax, dare I say. By the way, I think I probably already know the answer, but which country do you prefer, America or Japan?

  • Wow. Thanks for the compliment!

About which country I prefer? Hmm. I don't really prefer one over the other. For me, home is wherever I live - which for now, is Japan.

  • Don't mention it. And thanks for answering my question. Keep up the cool vids bro!

  • u're a great teacher i'd like to have one too! here in italy they are very very borring :-(

  • That's very kind of you to say. Thank you.

  • Amazing. ;3

I've been watching some of these, being interested in Japan, and I thought it might be a good idea to ask you about something... How hard is it to get a job in Japan, teachign English as a foreigner yourself?

I'm learning Japanese on my own, and am about to enter college this fall as an English (and graphic design) major for my licensure and will be minoring in Japanese. My plan is to, after paying off my loans, find a way to Japan, probably thorugh the JET program.

  • How hard is it to find a teaching job in Japan? Not at all. It's a challenge to find a good job however. Most jobs pay very poorly and are simple hobby-English classes at eikaiwa. The JET program is a good way to start. I wish you luck.

    Thanks for watching!

  • You're very welcome! :3

Yeah, I've been researching all the information, and even though some of the stuff I've read would turn most people away... I can't help but be fascinated. For all of it's faults and flaws, Japan has always fascinated me and I just feel driven to get there. Not sure why. How hard is it to get into a private school, teaching English? I've read that more often than not, private school's allow you more freedom with your curriculum, whereas public schools are very strict.

  • Basically, very few high schools will give you freedom with the curriculum - those that will, will be private (or a special program at a public one). Most of the better jobs will not be available to newcomers, so you'll have to get a good a job as you can, then move on to better work once you have made contacts and know the lay of the land...

  • I love how quickly you respond; so efficient and polite. :3

Aaah. Still doing research, but I figured I'd go ahead and ask! Since you've been teaching in Japan for 10+ years (correct?), how many schools have you taught at in Japan? And would you have any recommendations of some of your favorite locations? I've read a lot of places saying Kyoto or Osaka, because Tokyo, personally, would be exorbitantly TOO expensive. I'd love to go there, but I'm looking to start somewhere more affordable.

  • I've taught in many junior and senior high schools, but I've been at my last one for almost 9 years.

The kansai and chugoku regions of central Japan are good places to live and work I think.

  • Great kids looks like you and them are having fun:)

  • Thanks! They are a lot of fun to teach.

  • Wait, these are your Japanese students? Wow they speak well. To be honest, some of your students sound like native English speakers to me.

  • Yes they are all Japanese students. Some of them have lived abroad; others just have an aptitude for second languages. Besides... they have GREAT teachers! LOL. :-)

  • now i remember that about the test ty, lovet the video!! and i think that he was shy in the camera otherwise he wuld have given you the ipod =P regard your class from me if possible ^^

  • Will do sir.

  • Great job, you got it all happening there, great into and outro and it is always fun to meet your talented students. You seem to have built such great repore with them.

  • Thanks for the compliments. I've learned a lot over my year and a half of making videos. And I get a lot of ideas from watching others such as yours, KK's, and many others.

Thanks also for the comment about the students. They really are a fun bunch. They keep me young.

  • yay for apple :D

    hah looks fun.

  • Thanks Alex. And as a mac-user and owner of Apple stock (all two shares...LOL), definately yeah for Apple!

  • This weekend, I want PJ to be my teacher please!!

Is it true you have to test into high schools in Japan? D= That scares me a little.

  • Hi Kurushiidesu. Yeah, students have to take exams to get into senior high, even public schools. But it is no where near as stressful for most students as the exam pressure to get into university. Very stressful.

  • Wow, I love your videos! I stayed in Japan myself for a 2 week exchange, which has be totally inspired to join to JET program to teach English over there once I've finished my undergraduate studies in University :) Are you affiliated with the JET program? Anyway, watching your video's really brings back some nostalgic memories from when I was there (although, you're teaching in Osaka? I was in Nagoya :)). Ganbatte~!

  • Thanks akuryounoseiki. I am not a JET, but I was a long time ago. It's a really good way to start here. I've been to Nagoya a couple of times and really liked it. I can see why you might miss it. Lovely place. Thanks for your support.

  • That class looks like it's a lot of fun, especially since they all seem enthusiastic. It must be a joy to teach them =^.^=

  • It is a joy to teach them (most of the time anyway, LOL). But that was not actually a class. Just some students afterschool volunteering to help me with a vid. It was really nice of them.

  • lol that last bye bye reminded me of teletubbies but those kids look pretty cool

  • The students are pretty cool...

(And there is a lot in my life that bares resemblance to the teletubbies... I am not sure why.) LOL.

  • Rika - what a sweetie! Nice vid!

Yuto's English is pretty incredible for an 1nen sei 16-year-old.

  • Thanks Jason. Rika is a really nice girl and Yuto is quite a charismatic character. The entire bunch are a lot of fun to teach/

  • i was wondering if its possible to shoot toyko whenever you go there...

and to shoot more of osaka's street, especially the people...if ya dont mind.

    ARIGATO!

  • Hi mysticblood6. Thanks for your comments. I'll try to get more Osaka-themed vids as the weather warms up this spring. About shots of Tokyo... I haven't been to Tokyo in over 6 years, but if I get up that way - and I might this June - I'll be sure to film something. Thanks again.

  • omg I can't belive how good their American accents are! Mostly Arisa's and the guy to her right. They speak English so well!! Must be the awesome teacher they have. ;)

  • Arisa and Yuto have been in international schools most of their academic lives, so they've acquired great accents. I would luv to take credit for that, but alas, I cannot. ;-)

  • cool video,

was that at a regular Japanese school?

  • Hey Ryoko. Glad you liked the video. No, this is not a public high school. It is a private school with an international bent. Students get over 10 hours of English a week.

  • Haha how cute :D

  • Their english really is fantastic. Love the intro, btw.

  • Thanks Lebennin.

  • DUDE PJ... its WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SSHORTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT.... i DEMAND a 10 min video :)

  • Hahahahaha! Don't dare me, cuz I might just do it! LOL.

  • Why are only two of them wearing uniforms?

  • The school where I work has no official uniforms; students can where anything they like. But some students where their old junior high uniforms, more as a fashion statement than anything else.

  • 英語すごい!

  • Thanks K~!
