Great video Phil. I really dig neons signs too. It looks like you have a plethora of them in NYC.
I'm also fond of those old painted signs (pre-billboard era) that you can still find on the occasional building. They're getting harder to spot (getting old sucks).
Getting old does suck. There are a handful of painted signs on the sides of buildings in New York, but they are fading away, literally and figuratively. Some of them are masterpieces, but alas, it was a different era. thanks for watching and commenting.
I went to Clemson University, at the foot of the mountains. I remember roadside shacks with the most elaborate beer signs, especially Budweiser. They were also the prize art displays of dorm rooms and frat houses.
You have a special talent. Again another great video , you really need to get your stuff seen . Everyone I send a copy to says the same thing . Thanks for posting
I have a collection of photos I've taken all over the US of neon or just old signs from derelict buildings or bad parts of various towns. Thanks for reminding me how much I enjoyed doing that :)
phil, wow! i absolutely loved this. it brought back memories of some of the historic places in NY. thank you so much for putting that together. and the music was great as well. take care. have a good week ahead. ((hugs))
the end was a little spooky! lol, i have heard of vynl and i dont know why lol and samuel adams is an actual drink?! lol im guessing the family guy advertising is working wonders! lol, here we have some lights but not quite the same, one of the last i remember seing was underneeth a large droopy tree illuminating the water a blue colour :) that i believe was camden waterfront (LDN)
It was late night in the big city. millions of stories but none of them mine. couldn't sleep...got outta bed, dragged a comb across my head. went for a walk in the empty streets. night lights. everywhere. beckoning no one...calling out, insisting, inviting... then dark again.
I have never had the pleasure. I did find this review of the Hotel:
". . .our first night in the Carter- in the disgusting bedroom- we put the tv on to try and distract ourselves from our surroundings- only for the hotel to flash up on the screen- and people reporting that a body had been found- a girl had been strangled, wrapped in plastic and left under the bed for the 'cleaner' to find! horrified was is only was to describe that! if you are considering staying there please reconsider. . ."
There's something about neon lighting late at night which gives it a moody, refined, feel. Excellent camera work and music choice. The whole thing just sort of puts you in a trance.
what a great song - and perfect for this. great job with pan and zooming.. the vid came out great! (i don't know how we ever missed casa havana when we were there...i'm going to make sure to get there next time around)

This southern boy's first experience with New York was December 1964. I gave the bellhop a 50 cent tip, and he gave it back to me. :)
Kind of tong-in-cheek -- I don't know if he became a rapper, and I defiantly didn't have on my vagabonds.
You should see some of the neon's at old Appalachian mountain beer joints.

Thanks. I think it is a great piece, but the musician wants to remain anonymous so I can't promote his music.

Very cool video! We have nothing like that anymore, only a few here and there, it seems everybody got sick of neon signs!
There was a neon art house near my village but it got closed!
