Magnificent! The leader is so at ease and so obviously enjoying herself, and is evidently so completely expert at this. It is a delight to watch, and a joy to hear!. Thank you for posting this.
Wow; to be able to lead SH with such flair, warmth, happiness, and confidence. I especially like the way she acknowledges the basses' special little refrain in each stanza and on the chorus. This DASH (Dayton Area Sacred Harp) Singer will have to make a pilgrimage to Mount Pisgah someday !
You ought to get yourself a copy of the blue book (the "Cooper edition"). The red book (the "Denson edition") that I'm assuming you use certainly is a great shapenote book, but it doesn't have any of the turn-of-the-century Southern gospel hymns like the one in this video, which the blue book is chock full of. The South really did corner the market on gospel hymns that move you in your soul.

Wonderful! I need to brush up on my skills. We do not have anything close to use in Tampa that I know of...so we have to sing with those online!

Very nice. I linked it on my facebook. It prompted me to pray for a singing friend.

Lord willing, I'm going to try to make it to this singing this year, and lead THIS song - it's one of my favorites in the Cooper book.
Thanks for posting this, jwr50!

Great to hear Cooper book numbers that we Northern singers don't get to sing very often. A blessing - Brad Oglesby

Yes, I have one as well as my great-grandfather's. He was from the Florida panhandle. I agree, I love the gospel selections found therein.

Nice audio quality! Where was this taken? Great song and I love seeing the joy on the leader's face.

Agreed on the quality - jwr50, what brand/model camera did you use?
And I agree that the lady leading it looks like she really loves it. It's nice to see people smiling!

Folks here in the South -- the older generations, at least -- still know how to live with a humble grace, and appear respectable at social events.
It's nice to see the last vestiges of Southern social grace being carried on.
