Listen closely. He says they have 16 titles and the most wins in NBA history. Boston has 17 titles but not as many actual wins.

@joesakic91 Celtics are the best franchise period!!! most tradition and 8 in a row, no team will top that everrrrrrrr i know it hurts just got to live with that. the Lakers need 1 more to tie, i dont think they have it anymore Phil is gone, sorry i guess Celtics will be on top for a bit. Sure, it's cool that the Celtics won 8 titles in a row 1959-1966, but still, the Celtics had chances in the 1980s to completely pull away from the Lakers to win more NBA titles, but didn't.
The C's could've had 20 before their last title in 2008, but failed.
And in actuality, the Lakers also have 17 titles (1 in the NBL, 16 in the NBA) like the Celtics.
So, there you go.

Since professional basketball leagues in the U.S. started in 1937 with the National Basketball League (the Basketball Association of America was created in 1946 before both the BAA and NBL created the NBA):
Lakers 17, Celtics 17.

Um, if you really know your pro basketball history and really do your research, you know that the NBA was formed in a merger between the Basketball Association of America and the National Basketball League.
So, the Lakers winning the 1948 NBL championship does count in the history books to go along with their 16 BAA/NBA titles. That's 17.
Basically, you need to look at ALL the titles won in all different leagues NBL, BAA/NBA and also the ABA.
