I'm learning to play the diatonic harmonica but after hearing this I feel like turning it back into the harp Gods b/c I'll never play with that kind of magic and talent...
We'll pray for the 11 scumbag heathens who don't like this and have no soul. Must be contemporary country fans, most of which is just the blues with the soul taken out of it.
Terry McMillan my Mentor will be missed i have prayed for this mantle and i know that it has been passed and im going to continue practicing. If the ones that read this could you please listen to my video of my talent quest.
Absolutely Awesome! My dad played the Harmonica so it is one of my favorite
instruments. This is the first time I have heard of "Terry McMillan"... thank you for introducing me to this very gifted musician. I am sorry to hear that he is no longer
Wow! Sometimes when I doubt the existence of God, I listen to this. Surely, He had something to do with Terry's genius. This is just beyond unbelievable. Wish he were still here.
@MrJerryjenkins yes, 2 albums for sure. "I've got a feeling" and "somebody's coming" I have both of them. "i've got a feeling" is pure harmonica for the most part and is my favorite of the 2. "Somebody's coming" has some harmonica on it but a lot of singing too. It's more of a blues style
@hoover4000 When you are that good you can play it inside out, side ways, and any way you want!!! It's music, don't be so anal.. what side of the brain do you play with, the structured side or the creative side? Yeah, I thought so.
I was a jingle producer and studio guitarist/singer in Chicago for years. Back in the 80's my company used to fly Terry up to play on sessions. He was a monster. Didn't know he passed away.
Amazing Grace Written by John Newton in 1745 by The Statler Bros. Album Pardners in Rhyme in 1985 Cassette from Thrift Store in Marion, Ohio called Salavation Army
He is playing 2 harmonicas because there is a key change toward the end, for dramatic effect. It is not impossible to do that one-step-up on one harmonica, there is a guy on utube who can do it, I forget his name.
This guy was great. Only recently learned he was the one that did that awesome harmonica part in Garth Brooks "Ain't Going Down"(Till the Sun Comes Up). After it first came out I was like, "Who is that playing the harmonica?" and could never find out...while watching TBN I found out it was this guy and learned of him and his testimony but didn't know he had died until like 2 months after that. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE...what the choir in heaven will be like...WOW.
@iwillrocknroll4eva: I caught him playing Amazing Grace while flipping channels early one Sunday morning. Never forgot that performance, and it's great to now have a video of him.
Paul Butterfield held the harmonica upside down as well. another legend like Terry. RIP more than technique which is amazing from Terry, his soul was put into the harp & it sparkles!
Terry McMillan was the best harmonica player ever. I saw him on TBN many times in the mid 90's. He had a powerful testimony and a God-given talent. I later saw him playing on one of Garth Brooks' TV specials. He left this world too soon, but it's good to know we'll get to hear him play again one day. RIP brother, your work on earth is done.
first song i ever learned, red river valley, second song, amazing grace. i'm also curious about the two harps also it seems like he plays "backwards" with the low notes on his right. excellent harp man
@Ngeruu ,,because someone is talented, doesn't make them a good person, im not saying he wasn't a good person, but you can't judge a person on his talents when it comes to a good person
i met Terry in 1974 in Nashville, Tn. I'll never forget the night we celebrated him getting hired by Chet Atkins. He was an incredible musician then. Two years younger than me. He will be soooo missed. Check out Garth Brooks Live tv concert "Ain't goin' down till the sun comes up". I'll always recognize that style and his warm charm. I'm still playing buddy! RIP
You're kidding right? This is one of the best known songs worldwide, it's been translated into hundreds of languages. I recently heard it sung in Romanian! It was written by an Englishman... England, outside the USA.
I know USA's media coverage doesn't help you with it's near exclusively internal coverage but i'd hope that Americans can still acknowledge the rest of the world
The tune is a derivative of a west african negro-spiritual.
Terry was righ handed. But yes, he did hold his harmonica up-side-down. He was self taught and thought it was supposed to be held that way. Anyway, it surely worked for him!
Terry was my best friend; I had known him since 1976 and I still miss him everyday! I just don't want his music to fade away. He had more music out there, just in case you didn't know; just look for it!
Terry was my best friend; I had known him since 1976 and I still miss him everyday. I just don't want his music to fade away. I hope you'll buy his 3 CDs. One with Larry Carlton and two with Terry by himself. All 3 are great!
Terry was my best friend! I had known since 1976. He was a devoted Christian; he was also hilarious. Those who knew him, know what I'm talking about. We worked together for years and I still miss him everyday. Go to Yahoo Shopping and buy his CD, "Somebody's Comin". And then try to find his "I've Got a Feeling" CD. You won't be disappointed. I just do not want his music to fade away. He really was a man after God's own heart!

amazing guy...listend to him like crazy as a kid. I love his train song the most though.
man....passion like that is awesome, and it's cool to see how he can focus so well...but i bet that's a little easier when you keep your eyes closed while you play. that's truly the best way to inspire self-confidence.
He had just gotten out of a 30-day drug rehab, and was found dead. I don't know if it was drug-related or not. I didn't even know he had and addiction problem 'til I found out he had died...which was just recently. I was floored to find out. I love that guy...it's just heartbreaking.

Terry was the best harmonica player ever, because of his style & his passion. He was my #1 harmonica hero & I will miss him greatly. He played the best version of Amazing Grace on the harmonica, PERIOD. There are some pretty lousy versions out there on YouTube & some good ones, but Terry has them ALL beat! Terry didn't necessarily play to impress other harp players - he played what he felt, & with such passion. His style set him apart from other harp players. Thanks for posting this clip.
This is absolutly beautiful. It's great to see someone play the instrument of angelic sounds. I see more musicians bringing out the harp in these later days. Praise be to God! Rest in Peace Terry may your gifts to sing and play harmonica live on through videos, cds. and u-tube etc. in Jesus name.
Terry was a good friend of mine and he's the one who taught me to play before I left for Iraqi freedom Terry and I really became close and for every album I make it will be dedicated to him. Terry McMillan was truly an inspiration to me and every everytime I hear him play it just reminds me of how wonderfull God really is. Jay Sawyer
Thanks for sharing this video,Some of us from Archdale knew Terry from High school at Trinity. He had a given talent,& when out from here to great accomplishments.God had a plan for him. We're all blessed that Terry passed thru our lives
Now God has Terry to entertain the whole of Heaven. Isn't is awesome to know that Terry's there now? I'm sure terry's very much happier than we all are on earth now. hehehe..
There will never be another Terry McMillan. Though not as skillful as some players like Howard Levy & Carlos DelJunco, Terry's style & tone are unmatched. Buddy Greene & Charlie McCoy are great players as well, but they just don't have the same raw sound as Terry. He will be missed - he was my harmonica idol.
I just found out tonight that he passed away nearly 4 months ago. I am in shock to say the least. Amazing Grace says it all. I'm glad I have experienced it.
I miss you, Terry!!!
