I realize this is very noobish... but having just recently got into the hobby of RC aircraft, I've started looking at diesel engine info. I realize that blending your own fuels may be economical or more fun for some. I would prefer to run mine on either #2 ULSD or B20 or even UMO/UVO blends. Any of which, I have reasonable quantity on hand at any given time. Seems these engines should run as well (perhaps better, i.e. 5% UMO + cetane booster) as your lamp/castor/ether mix.
@cow1324able These engines do not require glow plugs for ignition, because they rely on the heat of compression to ignite the fuel. They should be called compression ignition engines.
@nitroairplane I can't believe that's true. I paid US$3.699/gal for #2 ULSD this month, including road tax. I was just looking on the glow/nitro supplies aisle at my LHS last week, and I saw fuels ranging from $10.99 for a quart to $36.99 for a gallon. Why not make a batch of B100 next time you're considering putting your waste vegetable oil in the recycle/bin. If you count the oil as free, it's less than $1/gallon, give or take.
How much do those cost and are they worth replacing with a glow engine????? How long can you last on one tank of fuel??? Where can I get one??? Please let me know I would highly appreciate it!!!!
@nathanmeitzler Sorry for my slow response. The engines are about $100 dollars each, slightly more than a glow engine of comparative size. The run time depends upon the size of the tank used, but because the fuel has a higher calorie content than glow fuel the engine will run considerably longer than a glow engine on the same amount of fuel. In response to your last question; I used a spray can type of ether and I simply sprayed it into a deep small mouth bottle before mixing.
@lilbrudder32 That is regular diesel that cheap. Model diesel is more expensive.

1. In England, kerosene is called paraffin.
2. PAW engines are made in England. Try googling them.

Sig model manufacturing markets this item and it is available in hobby shops. It is also available from a Pharmacy as I remember.

hmmm, this looks nice, cheaper than nitro fuel per gallon I think too. Here is the best part: NO GLO PLUGS!

@RCvehicleGuy no diesel costs slightly more than glow fuel.

what is kerosene and where can i buy it?
MrRazmushenriksson 1 year ago
@MrRazmushenriksson Based I my limited research it is the same as number 1 fuel oil sold in camping and outdoor stores under the name kerosene.
davideo4301 1 year ago
@davideo4301 Kerosene is called "fotogen" in Swedish, which is his native country, according to his profile. That might be the trick. :)
DasMidnightDrifter 1 year ago
@davideo4301 You can also replace kerosene with either high quality aeromotive or high quality automotive pump diesel.

Great video. How did you manage to mix the quick start spray with the other ingredients?
kivakivaeiksvaa 2 years ago
Im having trouble finding ether for my model diesal,
Would 20% Quick start be ok? Maybe if i put a little more then the standard 1 oil, 1 kero , 1 etherr Maybe 2 ether?
anthacdc 2 years ago
Hi! Equal portions of kero, castor and ether (quick start) would work fine.

interesting... what is the top RPM of RC Diesel?
whisanders 2 years ago
Hi Whisanders! The manufacturer says that this engine has a speed range of 4-17 K RPM on a 7X3 prop. I was running mine on a 10 inch
