Thanks a lot for your on-line classes. I am watching at your videos from the other side of the atlantic ocean, from spain. Thank you very much. I have just started violin and with your videos I can improve better, listenong again the song. Thanks again :)
@wonderful76805392 - bowholds vary. I started out with the standard Franco-Belgian (American style) of bow-hold, but after 30 years of professional life I seem to have a hybrid of a baroque bowing and a more Russian-style bow-hold. You know, you do what is most effective, or what works with the equipment you have and the music you're trying to play. But to start, just do what your teacher says!!
Hi Allyson. Your videos are very informative. Thought I'd ask you what you think would be a good piece in Suzuki Book 1 and 2 which my 12 year old daughter can play for a recital. She is now in Book 2, though not finished yet, and her teacher wants her to play Minuet #3. Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks.
Hello Allyson. Just wanted to thank you for this video. I have started studying violin this year and your videos help me a lot. You are very clear an concise.
I am struggling with me left hand I still feel it stiff and hard rock!
@casaenboedo - the left hand is difficult - I have several students struggling with the same thing. Don't let the thumb grab the neck - lean it back and try to roll it to the left so it can't do anything!! - almost. Then, try playing with your wrist bumped outwards - makes it more difficult for the fingers to squeeze onto the string. You don't want the fingers to bend or squeeze - try to make them look like the hammers on a piano that only move at the knuckle joint. Good luck.
Your name is Allyson? THANK you so much. I am struggling with that Minuet for a while now and my teacher is not so good at teaching (though he plays professionally in symphony Orchestra). Looking forward getting home, sit with this video and try to follow you! funny that you teach oversea... :-)
@jimykimm - Even playing together in person isn't easy! Try playing along with a metronome to get the habit of keeping your own rhythm steady as that might help.
@serene424 - There always have been 2nd violin parts for most of the tunes in the first book or so, published in the same edition as the Suzuki violin books - just ask at your music store. Or Sheetmusicplus or sharmusic online. Sometimes I just remember the ones from my childhood, and other times I make them up as I go....so no guarantees as to exactly what the notes should be!
thanx this video was really helpful...i had a test for this song and i aced it :D thanks alot :)
