  • This was simply amazing to hear in person....i was in the audience listening to this beautiful piece of music along with the others.....if i hadnt made mixed choir that year i would've gladly been in this choir because they were amazing....Texas is and ALWAYS will be the best!!!!!

  • I don't think it was the oboes fault it was just really high

  • Dude ... Next time, get a babysitter (so your little sister the oboe player won't ruin the performance). ... and WTF was with that arrangement? I mean, the guy's voices are AWESOME ... but what the hell tune was THAT? (maybe the music sheets were upside down or something?) Awesome voices, crummy tune and WTF was an oboe doing out there? What a disappointment, after all I'd heard about this choir.

  • What I would like to know is how many of the traditional male voice choir singers are Cornish or Welsh in origin?! The Cornish and Welsh are very big on Male Voice Choirs and emirated all over the world

  • Who is the composer of this piece?

  • Never mind, found out that it was Z. Randall Stroope.

  • @JoshEdelsmo The lyrics to "Danny Boy" were written by an English lawyer & lyricist named Frederic Weatherly in 1910. Although the lyrics were originally written for a different tune, Weatherly modified them to fit the tune "Derry Air" in 1913. Jane Ross of Limavady is credited with composing the melody to "Londonderry Air", in the mid-19th century .

  • Oh I do wish that Oboe player had gotten sick the day of this performance...it is very irritating... Choir ***** (5 stars) Oboe (No stars)

  • I have formed a habit of listening to this everyday...it is so inspiring and beautiful that I never tire of it...

  • I was searching on youtube for the original tune of this song...but I must say this version is spectacular. And you can hear how silent the audience is as well. Beautiful rendition--you guys gave me chills.

  • I find something extremely soothing about listening to male choirs...the lower registers just seem to add so much depth and warm tones which I find extremely gratifying....love this version and this choir. My daily prayer: May everyone have a beautiful sound to blend with other voices, and may everyone have a discerning ear to hear beautiful music. Fantastic job Choir!!!!

  • @oneonetwosix1126 Hey m8 :) lower frequencies do have more harmonics :D thats why babies usually calm down when a father sing to them and things like that :)

  • just absolutely gorgous!

  • love it when the conductor wipes tears from his eyes..

  • clarinet is not good..

  • @carlosjtown

    I'm pretty sure that's an oboe....haha

  • @carlosjtown if i'm not mistaken i believe she is playing the oboe

  • The men's choir at my high school sang this for contest

  • this is a great piece!! i just got back from being conducted by Randall Stroope in new york he is amazing!! also really funny

  • @barrelracer911 OMG FO REALS!

  • Does anyone have this score?

  • ive also done omnia sol and it was amazing, i love stroope

  • wow..........THAT WAS AMAZING!!!!!

  • Does anyone know of an arrangement of this I could find on iTunes?

    It would be greatly appreciated.

I was just asked to play the oboe part for this, so I'd like a copy of the MP3 to listen to (that's of high quality and complete)

  • WOW! Great JOB!

I think how much he conducts just like Mr. Noble! The similarities are HUGE!

    Great job everyone!

  • Holy crap, i was just thinking the same thing!! ^_^;

I <3 Noble. ^_^ Singing under him is just AMAZING!!!

  • that was so amazing!

  • sounds great!

  • Love the diction.

    Dynamics were wonderful.

    Cords were incredible.

  • 2008 Texas All State Men's Choir... they were amazing! I was there and heard them live- what an experience! The way Stroop conducted... ah! It was so lovely. I was a 2nd Soprano in the TX A-S Women's Choir that year. But this makes me want to sing tenor. I adore this song.

  • I agree..Z. Randall Stroope is AMAZING, my High School have sung his song "Omnia Sol" in Prague, Czech Republic and Berlin, Germany, and we are currently singing his "Homeland" and we plan to sing his "Homage" for our 2010 UIL Concert and Sight-Singing Contest in April

  • @witcherdude HOMAGE? I NEVER HEARD OF THAT SONG AND HIS MY FAVORITE CONDUCTOR/COMPOSER LOL HOW SAD! DAMN I MISSED HIM TOO-I GRADUATED A YEAR TOO EARLY WHEN HE CAME TO NEW MEXICO

  • Absolutely beautiful. Who is the composer? This is absolutely amazing. i could go on and on and on about this. simply chilling. what an arrangement

  • Z Randall Stroope

  • I keep seeing people post comments about how this is not the "original" tune. Stroope commented to the men while they rehearsed that he thought the original tune for Danny Boy was too much of a "drinking song" and wanted something that was more symbolic of the death of "Danny Boy" and how it resonates with the father in the text. He related much of it to the relationship with his own father. It was a moving thing to be a part of.

  • This is AMAZING! I was in the '85, '86, '87 All State, and these guys, better yet..MEN, ROCK!! Beautiful!

  • ummm... yeah, w/e

  • tenor one yay! our lovely high notes were exploited here

    :)

  • that is beautiful

  • This is not danny boy as I know it, but still a beautiful rendition.

  • lol. I see Andy Zapata. :D First chair!

  • blech! this is the weirdest arrangement of Danny Boy I've ever heard. What's with the oboe? Don't get me wrong, the choir performed it really well, but I prefer the original tune much better.

  • It's not the same song. Same words are used, but it's an original piece.

  • i miss this so much.

i miss running around the gonzales center aimlessly, i miss dr. stroope, i miss overtones! holy crap i cant wait for this TMEA 09!

  • lol...See THAT'S what it all about right there!

    1988 TMEA All-State Member here...Bass I.

    I'm sure you'll never take it for granted...I won't.

Best of luck! Now go practice...

  • i LOVED singing this song ugh i still sing it all the time

  • Anyone know who reyes rodriguez is? i know he got first chair in all state i think hes a tenor 2

  • i know him we've been in choir together since sixth grade and yeah hes a tenor 2 and im a bass 1.

  • pretty good choir

  • holy crap this is amazing. z randall stroope is a beast

  • gosh i miss this choir...

  • that is a beautiful sound, makes me cry because i didnt make it this year, but i'm gonna push it to make either one of the choirs, tenor-bass or mixed, i dont care which one, but it must be wonderful being on that stage and seeing all the people there watching u sing

  • work hard for it man, its totally worth it. im on the 3rd row 2nd from stage right, and its totally worth it. you have no idea how awsome the week of rehearsals are and the concert is the icing. work your tail off and make it ur senior year as i hope to do again

  • I was at this concert! mens choir was friggin' amazing :D i auditioned for this choir, region 26, as a tenor 2. sadly i didnt make it, but im definately gonna try and make it this year. TMEA all day haha

  • I was in that audience for this performance! I was in the Texas all-state mixed choir for 3 years, and now I'm pursuing vocal music education in college. During this song, I looked down the row of about 25 of my music ed colleagues, and every single one of them including myself were in tears. Great performance men! Make sure to treasure moments like these (to work with ZR Stroope! jeez!) because they do not come often in life and to keep making music every chance you get.

  • cann anyone tell me exactly how hard is it to get into All State choir??? lol

  • Each state's process is a little different. The Texas all-state choir is hard to get into for the sheer size of the state. About 30,000 high-school students begin the process in july/august, and over the course of about six months and 4 rounds (District/Region/PreArea/State) only about 300 hardworking kids get the privilege to sing in the Texas All-State Choir. They are separated into the 3 choirs Men's/Women's/Mixed based on their score and chair (rank).

  • 4 rounds? i thot texas was just region,pre-area, then area (technically its state)

and considering im a freshmen i probably wont make it lol

and thanks for the info =]

  • There are some regions in Texas that only offer 3 rounds. There are actually a good number of freshmen that make it each year. Also, most regions offer a region concert, and that alone is a wonderful experience. Good luck! :)

  • I had the pleasure of making this choir last year and it really was a fantastic experience. i come from one of the most competitive regions in the state according to what i have seen in my experience in the all-state choir. really there are many people in my region who should have taken the places of some other people and some who are placed correctly, not that i am contradicting the judges choices. what im really trying to say is just work really hard at it and you can definatley make it.

  • ya like my freshmen year i was the only freshmen that made it and i could sing lower than all the bass 2's that were juniors and seniors lol and im a bass 2 btw then 1st alternate mens choir 10th grade and 3rd chair mens 11th and 1st chair mixed senior so u never know aznnGUITAARplaya

  • yay paul anyone know paul kroeger he def tried out for tenor 1 or 2..hes really tall anyone im in choir with him : )

  • yeah i tried out against him and got first alternate, lol

  • I made Mixed this year, but you guys were MAGNIFICENT!!! i was in awe..

I can't wait to get the CDs and DVDs.. TMEA was an AMAZING experience- next year can't come any faster!!!!

  • OH MY GOSH I WAS THERE!

    :-]

    in awe of course.

  • the chain guy! lol nice job....this was the best song....it takes quite a bit to break stroope down but we did! lol

  • Okay I just want to say that it was an honor to sing with all of you. I am a tenor 2 but you all might remember me better as the chain guy. Stroope was incredible! We shared an experience that probably changed most of our lives. Take care guys!

    ~Ty Speaks

  • Woo bass 1's represent!

I loved this song so much. All state was so fun!

  • Yeah that bass 2 was my room mate..ha.

  • i was in this too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm a bass 2 who sat in front of that bass who could sing that low note that owned all the bass 2s xD

  • cha! Nobody would argue with that. that kid could dip. man oh man. on the third leap year of the millenia when the stars are aligned and the scented candles are all lit, i could HOPE to sing that low and actually be heard.

  • Woh! I sat in right in front of that guy too!! Scary how he can do that!

  • bravo!! You guys are amazing!

  • this is one of the greatest experiences of my life. my dad recorded this(thanks dad!) i was bass II, top row, second from the left. i just dont really know how i'll experience anything like this again. and yes, i did see stroope cry. it nearly made me cry. it was fantastic.

thanks for such an awesome experience guys!

    sincerely,

    Brady

  • back row, ninth from the left. Bass II.

Thank you so much for posting this. It's unfortunate though, I'll likely never hear sound like we produced during some of those rehearsals- nobody coughing, no wrinkling wrappers, just 128 voices in a room suited for 100. That is an experience I'll never forget.

    and mad thanks to Stroope.

  • I just remembered and found it. Look at 4:21 at Stroope. Somebody tell me if you have ever had a conductor have to wipe his eyes during a performance.

  • and make that 8th from the left.

  • i just spent 2 minutes trying to figure out how many people were to my left :D. Rainbow round my shoulder confused me cuz some1 steps down.

  • i am in the second row. tenor II. i can honestly say performing this song was one of the most rewarding musical experiences i've had.

  • My friend Ray is in this choir!!! Ahhh!!! Go Tenor 1's and Baritones!!!
