Your local Stihl dealer has the depth gauges. I got mine years ago and it was like two bucks. As the one poser below says, you need to grind your rakers with the sharpener for uniformity's sake. They make wheels with a concave profile for this purpose. Also it looks as if your tooth angle as viewed from above is wrong. Should be 30-35 degrees. I may just not be seeing it right.
Great vid! Thanks for taking the time to help other saw guys out.
Just a tip, amigo.. You can do the depth guides with your sharpener/grinder. Just set the depth to remove the required amount (depends on chain). I use an inexpensive Oregon chain grinder dedicated to the guide, as doing them right is as important as doing the tooth. To little, you get sawdust, too aggressive and the saw will be overworked and you may have kickback issues.
dont clean with gasoline unless you want a fire... dont use a dremil on what he calls a "racker"... doing that will make them ununiform in depth and make it not cut straight... use a file and measure at 25 thou.
I bought a new chainsaw and I took it home and used it to cut some wood. I took it back to the store and told the guy all I could cut was two small logs. We went out back so he could see what was wrong. He pulled on this string and that saw made a very loud noise.... I said, what's that?
