This album has so many flaws. It's not just uninspired, it's awful. Even the death metal songs are generic as hell. The guitar riffs have no feeling and sound mediocre.. David's voice lacks aggression. The songs sound predictable and are a weap attempt of sounding experimental and even the song titles are retarded, instead of having lyrics about the ancient ones, we get stuff like ''CROSSING THE LINE SINCE 1989!!''? I guess it's t00 extreme! for us right? What a piece of shit.
I read the comments of artists like Sanders, Akerfeldt, Vorph...
They said that this MA "innovation" is good, it's their way to be "extreme", they described it like a sort of "modern masterpiece"...
I think that if MA wanted to be extreme in that way, they should have used another moniker, because using the "Morbid Angel" name they're simply disappointing and stealing money to their fans, playing shit instead of good death metal.
They could have played "modern" death metal, they did shit.

Some of these songs sound like hard rock gone death metal (didn't Chris Barnes do this already?), some of it is just plain weird, but Blades of Baal is actually pretty sweet. Nevermore and ExistoVulgore are alright.

This is my second time listening to this, and honestly, It has some nice moments on it, but it's not Morbid Angel, and I take that as a complete slap in the face after 8 years. But I'm not going to lie and say I don't enjoy listening to it, it's just not Morbid Angel and the fact that they would call it that is an insult to metal itself.
If you tune out Dave it sounds better, there is some really interesting shit Trey is doing on Too Extreme and Culpa....I say we need to let it sink in more. I've listed to this about a hundred times and I'm starting to get a better handle on it.
The difference between this and St. anger is musically Morbid are still sharp. Sure you may like or not but as far as the musicianship goes it's still second to none. The faster songs have some incredible riffing going on...not everyone can pull this shit off.

The electro parts are bad and sound so out of place it's beyond lame.

I was also expecting something different but I put enough faith in Trey to know that there must be something to this. There are some cool riffs in first few songs. Trey is talented. But shitty mechanized drums, flat production, max cavalera-style vocals and all the industrial shit is completely irrelevant to Morbid Angel that we know and love.

In other news, song names are a fucking joke. "I am Morbid"? Really? Well, Tom G. Warrior approves of your morbidity. I don't even want to start about "TOO EXTREEEM!!!!11????777" Fits with David Vincent's glossy outfits really well.
But I hope Trey will understand the problem with this record. He did so with Domination.

Old listeners seeking a new source for surreal, murky and abstract death metal, as our angel decided to sell us the musical equivalent of a crayons, I highly recommend the Australian band PORTAL.
Excellent studio recordings, live performances alike., some very bizarre and unorthodox visuals.
I don't see them going Radikult on us any time soon.

To me Morbid Angel was a corner stone of my spiritual battlefield. When I listened to their music, records like: FFF, AOM and GTA. I always thought, how intelligent those people should be, to write so strong and inspired music. Now, I feel like a fool, because they just sold out. As everyone today does. This music may be good for young, stupid, pop-soda generation. But for me, it is hollow, like the vacuum emotions that people are sharing today. This record leaves a crack in my soul. RIP MA.

And Trey is just as responsible for the techno influences if not more so (as he's the one who writes the songs), he is a fan of the music and even has his own side DJ project.
