  • Great video!!

  • Glenda and Cate!!!!

  • Thanku :-) very kind of u, have downloaded and listened to many many times :-)

  • Hi all, could any kindly soul tell me who sang this song and the name of it? As well as loving this video, I'm totally hooked on the song and want to download it. Any help gratefully received, cheers

  • @himley79 The song is "The Story" sung by Brandi Carlile.

  • Great Video Cate Blanchett played the best Elizabeth.

  • Flora Robson was OK. She's the only one that wouldn't chop your head off.

  • Most accurate portrayal of Elizabeth I

    LOOKS - Cate Blanchett (obviously)

    PERSONALITY - Glenda Jackson

  • The most recent version I've seen was the series on Masterpiece Theater with Anne-Marie Duff and it was fantastic.

  • on 1.56 i almost believe to see joan of arc i rather have elisabeth.

  • can any one tell glenda she is a great actrice? maybe she is a better human.

  • La monarchie est dictature!

  • I love this story. The song and the singer...

  • this is the worst song'singer i ever heard

  • I love the Helen and Bette Davis' versions

  • marvellous queen........

  • @1zwitser yep. and i just found out today i'm a descendant of Queen Elizabeth.

  • @majinish wauw! are you sure?

  • @1zwitser yep. my family is big on doing genealogy and my mom found out today. im a descendant of her's as well as some other kings & queens of England. i was like o.O

  • @1zwitser She's only known as the "virgin queen" because she never married but she did indeed have at least one child. i know from research she's not a virgin of sex, only marriage. that's where people get confused, they don't look up ALL the facts.

  • @majinish There is absolutely no reliable evidence Elizabeth had any lovers. I assure you I have looked it up. I have about a dozen biographies of Elizabeth. While we cannot know 100% the general consensus amoung most historians was she was a virgin. The only evidence of any lovers comes from gossip - not reliable solid evidence. She lived her life much more publically than today's royals. I am interested in your source for your beliefs as it is not in any of my books.

  • @brontewcat She had many lovers and her being known as the virgin queen only comes from her not being married. One of her lovers was Sir Walter Raleigh.

  • @majinish I am sorry but that is not borne out by any historical biography. There was gossip but none of it was ever backed up by more than scandalmongering by her enemies. trust me the ambassadors to her court would have ferreted it out had she had even one lover. She was called the Virgin Queen because she claimed to be a virgin not because she was not married. If you believe differently then name your source. I can refer you to many biographies starting with JE Neale's Elizabeth 1

  • @majinish Please don't accept what you see in films or on the Internet as necessarily factual. There is no evidence whatsever Raleigh was a lover except in the courtly sense. It is possible she got into some heavy petting with courtiers such as Hatton or Dudley but she was too wise to risk pregnancy. Elizabeth swore on what she thought was her death bed in 1560 she had not done anything improper.

  • Love the clips!! Great song!!!

  • its got to Be Glenda Jackson..

  • Helen Mirren was the best one in my opinion then Judi Dench as second but Helen wins hands down!

  • Flora Robson twice also: Fire Over England (1937) and Sea Hawk (1940).

I love all the Elizabeths; each portrayal brought another facet of this fascinating character to the fore.

  • Absolutely Wonderful! Great work!

  • Please someone tell me what the song is and who it's by! I love it! I also want to add .... Elizabeth changed this country's destiny forever to be tolerant and forward thinking, she was before her time and we forget this. For all of her down sides she was so ahead of the times! Anyway! If someone could name the song and the artist I would be well chuffed! Rich x

  • wats the movie at 0:39?

  • Glenda Jackson's portrayal is by far my favorite of Elizabeth.

  • Beautifully done! I cried through this...awesome song/video combo :)

  • Dame Flora Robson played Liz twice in movies, once in 'Fire Over England' which you have, but really brilliantly with Errol Flynn in 'The Sea Hawk'. Try to get that one. There's also one with Jean Simmons called 'Young Bess', not a great film, but with Charles Laughton doing his Henry V again.

  • This is such a perfect song and video combo...I am totally betwitched. I have watched it ten times. I am looking for a great Elizabeth biography to read...any suggestions? Thank you for video and the lovely voice of Brandi Carlile....

  • I'm going to go with the Glenda Jackson crowd. Never have I seen ANY protrayal of a historical character played with such reality. That part was MADE for her. And let's not forget that she played Elizabeth 1 in Mary, Queen of Scots and stole that movie completely!!! Sometime when I just want to see some great acting, I'll turn it on!

  • Bette all the way! Although I do love the others, I'm a majorly bias Bette fan! =P

  • Wtf? 2:43 what happened

  • Oh, that was a scene from the movie "Elizabeth" with Cate Blanchett. That was supposedly an assassination attempt on the Queen's life (with arrows), which failed.

  • I think Anne-Marie Duff is the worst Elizabeth on film. Bette, as brilliant an actress that she was, played her like a circus freak. Long live Queen Glenda! Helen's portrayal is exquisite as well. Cate is superb in "Elizabeth," but "The Golden Age" is complete fairy tale soap opera crap that even she couldn't save.

  • I agree 100%. Glenda Jackson IS Elizabeth R in my minds eye. Cate is the most romantic, but the 'Golden age was shite... Mary, Queen of Scots, was raised in France, and spoke with a thick French accent, not a heavy Scottish brogue. Elizabeth R, was the very best. It was presented in an almost play-like fashion, small intimate sets, the focus is on the players not the surroundings, and draws you right into their world. I'm going back in in a sec, pt.2 3/12. for the umpteenth time. cheerio

  • There's no-one better than Glenda.

  • @steve77london I agree with you a 100%, some of the others have been very good, but Glenda in Elizabeth R is simply the very best.

  • Wonderful piece, but what about Quentin Crisp in 'Orlando'?

  • I love Helen!

  • I love it! :D

  • but bette did a great job too!!!

  • Glenda Jackson was the best Elizabeth I, followed by Helen Mirren!

  • I love Helen and Cate as Elizabeth
