  • question for ya do tadpoles need land to turn in to a frog?

  • @22CODPRO22 It is a good idea to give them something to walk onto. Once they get those legs, it isn't long until their gills dissolve and lungs are developed and functioning. You don't want your frog to drown! :)

  • people my bullfrog tadpoles turned into frogs and i made a video of them and and its one of my first videos ever on youtube cuz im new to youtube. i would appreciate it if you watched it :)

  • feed hib betta pellets or dog food

  • awesome man

    i love frogs!

i have 7 dogs, 3 frogs and 1 corn snake

  • do u have any other pets??

  • @camgonecrazy Just have 2 dogs and a Betta fish...lol

  • @jlh1290 I have a Betta fish as well

  • i did a smaller set up like this for my treefrog tadpoles

i have about 10 that i found in my pool

  • @SPRIAL18 boiled lettuce or u can feed them fish food

  • @SPRIAL18 I commented on this video saying what to do...look for it...?

  • @jlh1290 Yeh tht was helpful wasnt it and no u didnt

  • ok so do you need a uvb light and a water heater for theese things?

  • sure do.

  • dude i dnt no why u made da aquarium half land half water by da looks of dat frog it is not changin into a froglet for a while ,so yea... u pretty much just got a fish there for about a year or 2

  • this was a while ago now...the things front legs popped out about a month after this and was out of the water within 2 weeks. I let it go... yeah.

  • Ploped the taddies in there after a few days in half shade half sun. The worse it got the better it was for the taddies, more natural and food to eat. I added some alge tablets when suckers and when they got lil mouths they fed off of flake food and the misquitolarvae in the water. After a while the taddies grew into frogs and were let go in a statepark pond full of other bullfrogs.

  • Well i went and caught me a pair of 2 taddies out of the big stony lake. I filled a green storage bin with a fourth of water. I added floating logs, duckweed, and rocks.

  • What do Bull frog Tadpoles Eat?

Should I be putting half land and half Water in the cage?

What do filters do for the frogs? If I have a filter can I use tap water?

  • I used tadpole food from a local pet store. You can use that or use boiled spinach and chop it up...freeze it and put a little bit of the choppings in the water, it should feed off of that. Yeah you want half land and water so that it can get up to breath when it is time for it to get on land...i guess you don't have to do it early, but once the back legs seem like there are getting some size to them, you want the land ASAP.

  • I used a filter to keep the water clean, the carbon in the filter helps keep the ammonia down that the tadpole produces when it goes to the bathroom. It also helps aerate the water so it can breath with its gills. Yeah, you can use tapwater, just make sure you use a declorinator. The chlorine in tap water is extremely dangerous for tadpoles, or just use spring water like deerpark bottled water or something.

  • kool just asking whyy cant i put a little of the sphagrum moss

  • its very typical that when most frogs feed they also end up getting the surrounding materials other than the actual food stuck on they're tongue... since they have a sticky tongue the just gulp it right down...the sphagnum moss is a thicker plant material that when swallowed has the potential to cause an impaction. An impaction is when the food can't pass through the digestive system.

  • So pretty much the frog is clogged and dies unless you bring it to the vet...if they can even do anything to help you which isn't very often. So just a word of advice...don't use the moss just to keep possible hazardous situations from occuring...they won't really care whether its there or not :)

  • oh ok thanx what else can i put??? like plant wise or moss wise

  • really plastic plants would be the simplest choice.

  • oh ok thank you sooo much my leopard frog is really happy in his 20 gallen....thank you should i put my tadpole when he grows up with my leopard frog??

  • if your tadpole is a large one...its probably a bullfrog, then no..you wouldn't want to put them together or the bullfrog will eat your leopard frog.

  • hey how does this sound for my leopard frog set up....the bedding is coconut fiber and some sphagum mosss then at the bottom of the water side it will be coconut fiiber too how it sou

    nd??

  • for one of my other frogs...the pacman...i used the coconut fiber, that is the best bedding...the sphagnum moss you should do without completely. other than that good :)

  • what did you feed it when the legs came out???

  • same food as i said for the other video while it is in the water, but once it is on land, you may have to wait a while, but when it is ready it will start out eating crickets. Live food. At the point when it could walk on land i kept it a few days then released it. Thats the best thing. Especially if you have a bullfrog tadpole like mine...they get huge and end up hurting themselves in an inclosed environment.

  • how do you know when to set up like this?? when it grew its front legs or when they start to come up??

  • I just had it set up like this since the beginning, but you could go and add the slope a little later once the back legs seem fairly large. when its front legs come things go fast after that...so once the back legs are slightly large. you could put something in there other than gravel too, if you feed them on the gravel...they can go for the food, and eat gravel at the same time...thus they can become impacted and die

  • ok what if i put big gravel;??? will that help??

  • larger gravel would help for a while, but when it grows, if it can fit in its mouth its bad...if i were you go find and clean or buy some large rocks like slate that it can sit and move around on out of the water

  • k but i am going to keep the big gravl intil its a frog thats when his land is moss and a part wich is for the water ....in the water when hes is a frog in the water can i put big gravel??

  • the moss...most time used-sphagnum moss does the same thing as the rocks :(

  • do you have to own a filter for the tadpoles i have a:

    -10 gallon tank

    -4 inches of water

-rocks for when he grows up to breathe

    -artificial plants

-a edible tadpole plant he eats it

should i get a filter just in case and distilled water?

  • before buying it set everything up oh i suggest putting in caves for more security. and live plants my suggestion? anachras. duckweed....hmmm what else...elodea? and to mickey well hes fine some tadpoles can be fat trust me and swimming upside down? ummm some tadpoles do that it means their looking for food. or sometimes it might be sick look for signs of sickness.

  • okay heres things you need to make sure you get before getting a tadpole(s):

-Filter with a sponge in the water in take(make sure it fits and make sure its a good filter)

-Food(algea pellets, wardleys turlte sticks, algea disks, tropical fishflakes, goldfish flakes)(thats what i gave mine he loved it)

-Security(Give plenty of caves, plants, ornaments etc...)

-Gravel(natural but sometimes you could get a natural black)

-Ph, ammonia and all that other stuff neutrolizer(its a conditioner)

  • -Background(for better view)

-Did i mention provide lots of plants?

-Heater (make sure it can be adjusted to a thermostat you want the water to be atleast 72-75 degrees as this speeds up the metamorphosis)

-Provide lots of calcium, vitamins?(i believe itll make the tadpole healthier once it becomes a frog

-good lighting(but not too bright... just for the plants to grow healthier)

-Make sure to atleast get two tadpoles five would be better as to when frogs are young they like to be together

  • I called the fish store where I got them, but they had no clue. I have been changing about half of the water every 2 days. Keeping some of the old bacteria in the tank. Today someone told me to try distilled water rather then tap with additive. I'm giving that a try today. Thanks for your quick reply!

  • if you already have the distilled, go with it...but i would say to use a spring water like deer park or something because it still has minerals the tadpole can absorb to promote health.

  • spots for it and im making ornaments for the tank :3 and im getting a filter with a sponge int he suction part so he wont get sucked in yet the tank will be clean :3

  • Hey...wondering if you might have some suggestions...I have a bullfrog tadpole that is SO BLOATED you can almost see through him! He swims upside down and has been like this for almost a week. He's starting to get legs but thats it. I feel so bad for him, but he keeps on going. Been changing the water and keeping the tank clean, but no changes. Anything would be great! Thanks!

  • Have you tried testing the water? He seems to be sick. Either try going to a local pet store with fish and ask if they can test your water for amonnia at least or go ahead and let it go in a stream. My guess is the ammonia may be the problem.

  • or you could just idk use the ph adjuster and something to lower ammonia ;D also make sure that the water is completely cycled you should get a filter but not one that will suck the tadpole in. tadpoles are weak so id suggest getting a filter and put a sponge in the water intake part of the filter(cut the sponge so it fits perfectly)you dont want that poor sucker to get sucked right in but you also dont wanna change the water every week it wont give enough time to cycle. just

  • sounds good!

  • what does it eat

  • lettuce, but he didn't eat because he lives off of his tail at this age! he should have eating lettuce after you boil, chop, and freeze it.

  • umm yes he lives off his tail and such but you still MUST provide food like provide small bite size pieces of goldfish flake oh if you want it to grow real strong theres this wardleys turtle pellets which is loaded with calcium feed a bit of those pellets from time to time because some frogs eat em also feed algea pellets i myself will get a green frog for my 10gallon tank D: my last one "escaped" doubt it...but anyways im getitng it as a tadpole with back legs and a heater and im making hidding

  • My bullfrog tadpoles got legs! :) Question:

I want to move my tadpole into a bigger tank but i have two guppies in the big tank. Will my tadpole eat the guppies?

  • Yes when it grows up.

  • well i got him with back legs already...then it took about 2-3 weeks

  • how long did it take until the tadpole turned into a bullfrog

  • i got him with backlegs...it took a month with large backlegs before he became a froglet, bullfrog's take the longest to change...usually close to 2 years!!!

  • HOLY CRAP! 2 years to turn into a frog!!! I found one about an inch in length at a river and hes doing well guess i got wait a while lol.. Nice setup btw

  • he will be about 4 inches when done growing!!! haha
