what can i say>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> this album instigated so much of gusto into me during my younger days. cant believe i am still enjoying this nostalgia to the core today. very powerful music .
Well what can i say about the memories this stirrs. 14 year old bullish kid ready to take on the world, this music was what i awoke to as an adolesent and what a fucking way to be brought into adulthood. Powerful music and powerful memories!!!
I'm not sure that people really get that U2 has never really gotten off track. Sure they want to please their fans, but it is THEIR journey. We're just along for the ride. If they change their sound it is because they feel they need to. I'm no musical expert but I am sure that they are aware of what their fans want. But to be honest, its not about us. I love every album they have put out and own every song. Each song is still the same band I've been in love with since I was a kid. U2 forever.
Sitting here at 43..geez...this song is like a time machine for me. I remember listening to this for the first time being stationed at Offutt, AFB and I loving life and being in my country's military, USAF! To the guys at the SP dorm I lucked out in being assigned to, being that I was a x-ray tech student at the time and to all my friends at the hospital back in the winter of 1986, I miss the hell out of ya'll!!

I was 16 when i first heard this album, my best mate's brother lent it me, I fell in love with the whole U2 package until the mid 90's when..i dont know...something just changed with them & i didnt like it, I lost track of this album a long time ago till just this evening & i'll tell ya something i didnt think at 43 (gulp!) i'd remember how that 16 year old girl used to feel but this was a sort of homecoming for me tonight !! God bless folks
@jeekels I agree completely with what you said as it mirrors my feelings as well. I've missed the "old U2" since the late 80's. Big Country and The Alarm filled the void quite nicely though.
@jeekels I agree listening to this right now just gives me chills.... its been many years and i still know all the words and the memories it brings back are priceless....music back then was epic!!! i used to blow my ear drums out on my walkman lol
when joshua tree came out I was completely blown away. but ultimately I think this is u2's best album. timeless. this album and simple minds's new gold dream are the best albums of the 80s. also please do not forget who can be thanked for this brilliance: brian eno.
Been a fan since '82. This without a doubt is one of my top 10 U2 songs of all time. Top 5 if not 2, to sing out loud while driving! : )
See my comments on your "Wire" posting about this song and album. Bottom line,...UNDERRATED!
Most people who claim to be diehard fans don't even know this song/album. Why? Because they became fans after Joshua Tree/Achtung Baby and only know the popular "older" songs! ...If they ever listened to the entire old stuff, they'd be happy! Real happy!
@jaybd107 Absolutely, you are dead right. This has always been my favourite and I used to say to other U2 fans about how good it was and they were like what? what's that album? So hopefully they went and found it and got blown away like the rest of us.
The best U2 song

I often hear and read about the shitty and cheesy music of the eighties....everyone who think the same, listen to this and you know you're wrong.

Nice post jeekels.
I still like this and a lot of the quite 'atmospheric' material it brought from them. One of the very best albums this one is.
I'm typing this only a few miles from where the castle depicted on the cover is located.

This is one of my fave U2 tracks, would love to see them do it live again. This version and the one on "Wide Awake In America" are fantastic.
