No 502 CID in caddy. It's a 500 CID and it came stock with 450 HP and 550 ft lbs of torque. I used to own one and it would absolutely roast the radials to the point I'd be driving through the smoke from the front wheels. It would hide the speedo beyond 120 mph with ease. Power on tap when you called on it.
these damn cars had 502's??? shit i thought that was just crate engine inches! daaaaang i can see people back in the 70's engine swapping with these cars and making it a drag engine. new intake, headers, if you could, stroke it, new carb's, maybe aluminum heads, eagle crank, solid lift cam. new rockers and valve springs, the whole mile. dang this makes me want to buy one now and swap it into a nice car
@DGKall2010 Nope. They came stock with the Caddy 500 inch engine thru 1976 before being "downsized" to a 425 for '77, back in the much better days when each GM division made its own engines. Largest production passenger car engine ever. The 502 is just a big block Chevy crate engine. Used to have a triple white '75 conv. Awesome car; was offered about 6x what I'd paid for it in 1997.
@reprobacious i doubt they made a lot of horsepower because of well the usual (restrictive exhaust, emissions, not too good of a cam, you know) but i bet these engines made a shitload of torque though
@DGKall2010 The 1970 was rated at 400 gross hp. Rating obviously fell precipitously with the compression drop and changeover to net ratings in 1971-72. By the time 1976 rolled around, the converter, AIR, EGR, and ultra-mild camming, etc., cratered the rating down to around 210 net hp. Torque by then was down from the 500 gross rating in 1970 to a little under 400 by '76. Still, several companies specialized in aftermarket go-fast goodies for these engines to make them properly scream.
@Bosmob- I understand your point. But I have a 1973 Eldorado and would take nothing for it's fwd system. It's excellent driving (and, if need be, speed) in any weather.
@Bosmob ye i know after 1993 they put fwd but not back that i dont think i kno ours wasnt n it look like the smoke was comeing from the back tires wen he was screachin away
@beagletoe hmmm odd because theres people claiming theres a 501 and a 502 i only have heard of just a 500..... if there is such engines out there man they got be worth a fortune the 501 and 502 !!

Its a 500 by the way. 502 is a performance Chevy engine. We Cadi-monster lovers out there would never want to confuse the two!!

Yes, and the 400 HP was produced at only 4,400 RPM, with 550 stump pulling pounds feet of torque at only 3,000 RPM!
