  • @miamiguy72 the take-off was "horrible" because he was crabbing into a crosswind. Nothing wrong with it at all. Landing was a bit unelegant but perfectly fine.

  • 4 engines are better than 2 would be a good logo on the side

  • @SuperMole666 They did actually use the whole '4 engines are better than 2 thing' during the advertising campaign when the A340 first came out. It showed a picture of the A340 flying over stormy seas with a paragraph underneath stating "If you're over the middle of the Pacific, you want to be in the middle of four engines." You can probably still find the picture on google if you look for it

    The a340-600 has 375 seats while the 777-200 has 300 seats.

    the 767-200 has 210 seats while a300 has 300 seats. I am comparing the 767-200 rather than 400 because the a300 came out at the same times as the 200 (roughly)

    A300 first flight was in 1972, 767 in 1981.

  • @drbackjack every first test flight of an aircraft requires the pilots to wear safety gear just in case, regardless of the company. Boeing, Lockheed, Mcdonnell Dougllas, etc. they all do the same....its a good thing btw.

  • I always prefer Airbus than Boeing. A320 for Domestic Flights are much safer compared to the classic "death trap" Boeing 737s. A330 for medium haul, Although I like Boeing 777 and A340 on both long haul. Over the 2 Jumbos, I prefer the A380 big big bird yet graceful than the 747.

  • @CALanceGokongwei Of course, your opinion. Read the AF447 prelim report from the data recorders and report back what you think. No plane with working engines and controls should ever crash because the pilots couldn't decipher the computer messages.

  • i like the A340, but only up to a certain degree, i prefer the 777 or 767 for the long haul, but the airbus for short haul, that includes the A330 as well for longhaul. i cant also say that im not a huge 747 fan since i really cannot decide between the A340 and the 747. however, i would pick this model highly over the A380.

  • @qwertyguy76 same here. Airbus has better short haul aircraft (ie A320) while Boeing is the Master of the Widebody. A380 is a NICE aircraft, but it will never beat the 747 in a beauty contest. :)

  • Lol at them wearing parachutes.. That filled me with hope. Elegant bird though wow :D... although people say Its innefficient.. Don't forget that it carries more people than a 747 (before the intercontinental) and with more luggage space... And the 747 has four engines too. I guess the a330 must then be hugely efficient.

  • @Jhondinn I don't agree. I've seen much more extreme takeoffs and landings! Plus these are technically test flights so they push the plane to its limits. It looked like a very normal take off and landing against to the wind. Type something like most extreme landings or smt in youtube and see what the pilots and planes are capable of...

  • Sure is pretty, by far the best lines among the Airbus offerings, but sadly underpowered and inefficient. Like the 757, destined for obsolescence.

  • @antimatterXXXIII Inefficient compared to the 777 twin maybe, but definitely not underpowered - the A340-300 was "underpowered" but worked very well for its intended mission

  • @AdminMember Nope, Your wrong. They keep the gears and flaps down until they complete a certain number of tests, After they finished the tests they raise the flaps and gears. Saw it on a b747-8i Pilot interview.

  • He didn't really get caught in ground effect at all (which is interesting because the 330 generally "floats" forever) - yet both aircraft share very similar wings.

    This is a BEAST of a plane - those super high bypass engines just give it a really muscular look over the -300s

  • B777 is still the best airplane ever built. Large, comfortable, reliable...However, it seemed to me that 4 engines make an airplane more stable in turbulent air. I can feel torsional vibrations more in B777s.

    You cannot compare A330/A340 to Boeing 777 since A340 and A330 is at diffrent market and they are considered as two diffrent aircraft. Only A340 is against B777 and A330 is against B767. A340 is for long-range market which B777 is in and A330 is in middle~long range market which B777 is not in. Also, there is About 870 B777 made and 375 A340 made.

  • Okay, I want to know if there is someone in this forum that knows about the music playing in this clip. About the plane, i like Boeing better because they are more aesthetics, but Airbus also have pretty good planes.

  • Both A340's and 777's are safe planes. The difference is A340's are cheaper due to French Gov't subsidies, while 777's are not. A340's are more costlier to operate and maintain and 777's due to their 4 engines.

  • saftey does not matter on the engines, only the airplane does and the pilots actions impact it. no matter if its the 777 or the A340. theres no such thing as a safer "GE" or "RR" engine. heh, hers an example: the 767 has had the fewest crashes ever and it flies good with its original engines.

  • it's not the first flight of airbus a340 because the gear is up in the air. normaley you let the gear down on the first flight of an airplane.

  • @m3stw4nted Gear down is only at take off to reduce work load in case of an emergency. Gear is always cycled at least once in flight. Even the A380 B787 have flown gear up on firs flight.

  • @jetfire5091 for a decade i considered the a330 to be the safest. i always felt the happiest each time my flight aircraft was an a330. but the airfrance flight 447 really broke my heart
