Jennifer should have been prosecuted for bringing false charges against Steven for child molestation.Courts do not want to do anything to split the Mother from the child even if it means allowing them to lie and get away with it.How sad for Steven.I hope they pay dearly for what they did to this fine young man!!
I'll say this much; Jennifer and her family maybe hypocrites & murderers but they are also incredibly lazy. If they had gotten rid of Steven's body cleaned up the house chances are they would have gotten away with it.
Steven is what every father should be like, Jennifer: I hope she dies screaming.
No DNA at all; not even unidentified DNA? The local papers really goofed there.
Sole custody; why??? Makes no sense at all; even if false allegations of abuse were made. That is as controlling and vindictive as she is accused of being. Spouses may come and go, but BLOOD is FOREVER. A menagerie of self-centeredness, apparently on both sides, with children involved, and somebody ends up dead. Big surprise. That said, his murderer certainly deserves some prison time. Nice upload.
@pleaseSTFUnow Local papers reported the greatest amount of DNA found was from an unidentified source, i.e. someone other than those at the scene of the crime. Maybe they resolved whose it was, but I never read anything to that effect prior to or even after the trial of the grandma. It goes without saying the investigation was botched as well by the police; no powder residue testing or anything. Except for the cut on the grandma's hand and grandma's "statements" they had nothing, their own fault
@pleaseSTFUnow The standard is beyond a reasonable doubt. The state bears the burden; period. As a father, I especially wish they had his killer nailed if it was someone depriving him from spending time with his daughter. However, their case was lacking a lot and Illinois law is screwed up, corrupt, and unjust enough with maybe kinda sorta being the equivalent of beyond a reasonable doubt. It could have been any of them or a third party considering the quality and quanity of evidence.
@PawnBACM It needs to be said that Illinois are by far one of the least worst states. Which is pretty terrifying.
However, the state owes burden of proof to a jury - not to a judge. The system itself is at issue: both far too much trust in the word of police(a societal issue), and police abuse of that culture..
If I had been a juror, I'd have voted guilty. DNA is not everything.
Because the conspiracy was afoot, granny was conspiring - and Jennifer is just as guilty even if she didn't shoot.
@cinesimonj The jury is the trier of fact. The facts is what I was discussing.
I agree with your perceptions of the system, etc.
The issue I was talking about was murder, not conspiracy. I would have been inclined to find the g-ma for conspiracy if I was on the jury, but murder, beyond a reasonable dounbt; no way. A proper police investigation would have been paramount to the jury finding facts beyond a reasonable doubt. It's not their job; that's what the police are paid to do.
@cinesimonj Powder residue testing should have occurred. They should have been able to, with an absolute certainty, know who did or didn't fire a gun that evening. Then the debate, motives, angles begins from there. They had the actual murder weapon and most likely suspects all in one location barring a possible third party (hired) not being there. It doesn't get any better for an investigation. The police goofed entirely.
@cinesimonj So what's your point? Yes; on both sides. If she lied on an abuse repoprt, bring out perjury after her. I am sure considering his ties to the state he would have gotten a fair shake in court. Let her do a few years for the felony or whatever. Sole custody? Answer this; have you ever heard of the Constitution, fundamental rights, or parental rights? Moreover, parental alienation. He had options beyond demanding full custody. I certainly wouldn't have exercised that option.
Hysterical. How many cases do you know of where a DA actually prosecutes a lying false accuser, when it comes to accusations of child abuse? Almost never. And why shouldn't he have sought sole custody? You're not one of those who thinks children ought always to go to the mother?
@emncaity To begin, perjury is a FELONY beyond the gross miscarriages of justice it facilitates. There should be no tolerance of it all whatsoever in the justice system. I think it is pretty fucking ass-hole-ish of one parent to deny joint legal custody, and arguably joint physical custody, absent extreme and proven to an absolute degree of certainty circumstances, which is hardly ever the case.
@emncaity I haven't seen my daughter for eight years because my ex is a worthless piece of shit who has no compunction or shame about using her employer to corrupt the judicial system with perjury, maliciousness, and criminal behavior beyond the unethical, contemptible piece of shit she has for a divorce attorney. As an ethical attorney and real American who believes in the Constitution, etc. , I could never begin to lie, cheat, and steal my way through court the way some people do.
I wouldn't begin to condone his being murdered. That said, everybody has but one life and you might as well kill somebody that really loves their child if you are inclined to steal the most precious thing from someone they will ever have in their life. Blood is blood. Some people might give two shits less about you taking their child, but a person might want to sleep with one eye open if they do it to somebody else. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. It's bullshit.
@cinesimonj I never said diminsished anything. I said "murderer" because, from at least what was in the papers, saying there is a murderer and saying grandma is a murderer are two entirely separate things given the evidence. Cast my comments in whatever light makes you feel good. I am guessing you have never been victimized by the system or care whether or not it promotes justice or exudes integrity. At least I am being real. They swung for the fences and the jury bought it; pathetic.

@PawnBACM Yeah, Jennifer's DNA and Chief Birdsell's DNA was found on the gun.

@PawnBACM "apparently on both sides"?
EH?
"That said, his murderer certainly deserves some prison time"
Double EH?
You seem to be saying that this murder ought to be a diminished responsibility issue with a remark like that.
