  • this guy is a tool.

  • @MrDrumTech06 appreciate that. thanks.

  • I love that FAT snare drum sound :D

    Dave Weckl signature sticks?

  • @GunMetalSparkle Yeah dude. Weckl sticks are all I've ever used. He's not necessarily on my list of top inlfuences (he's great, don't get me wrong), but I really love the weight and size of those sticks.

  • That's a big, beautiful kit. Sizes are enormous and I like it. :) I'd like to hear more than the snare though... haha

  • @heuermanpercussion thanks man. check this out the "soundchecking the amber acrylics" video to hear the full kit.

  • Yeah I play almost everything with a rim shot, I have a 5x14 Tama Superstar so it helps tons and it really doesn't eat my sticks all that much.

  • Rim shots= YES! I agree, I am playing in a live hip hop band right now and am using rims shots all the time. They're essential!

  • how much are acrylic sets from risen?

  • rimshots are the reason for my excessive amount of broken sticks haha...but they are definatly worth it

  • Wait...there's another way to hit a snare drum???

    :)

  • god i HATE the way that snare sounds

  • wow. thanks.

  • sorry, just being honest.

but hey if you like it its all that matters, they're your drums

  • yep. honesty is the best policy.

what kind of snare tone do you like? that one in the vid definitely has it's own vibe. besides the gimmick visual effect in the bill mike band, i use it at sessions every now and then. shows up on maybe one out of ten tracks or so. been running a remo cs on it lately even thought coated doesn't look as cool. it sounds a lot like the second track from the latest keith urban record.

  • well im a total different genre of music. im into a more tight, higher pitched snare tone

  • is this dane cook? lmao

  • joshtheff...

heads can be custom ordered for any dimension.

  • also he said his floor tom is 20". How do you find heads that wide. Thats like a bass drum.

  • agentgear...

That's a track from the Bill Mike Band's first record, "Better News." Final track on the album... called "Secure." Our new record, "Truce," was released last November. You can get both records on iTunes.

  • hey whats that song in the intro, and in the end?

  • yeah man... I think we're both saying the same thing. I too would stress that the rimshot isn't supposed to be the only hit you ever use. I've just found that rimshots are far more effective than any other technique in getting great tone/power/volume. Most studio engineers will attest to this, as the rimshot opens up the frequency spectrum of a snare hit significantly. I encourage younger drummers to practice rimshots only because the timing/precision of a rimshot is so much more difficult.

  • There is only one problem.

Rimshots are good for volume but not dynamics.

You no longer have a high volume.

You have the ghost note, as he is playing them, for everyone else would be a normal snare stroke but he is playing them like a ghost note.

Which would mean instead of having a low, medium, high dynamic volume, you now have a low and medium, just louder.

But as far as teaching a rimshot, this was good, but for teaching someone how to use it, this was bad.

  • AKRedden,

Thanks for your comment. I would go against your point this way: rimshots don't have to always be hit loudly. Yes, a rimshot is naturally louder than a "normal snare stroke," but a quiet rimshot is not an oxymoron. I would argue that rimshots, even light ones, always SOUND better than a normal strokes - except for rare instances where a normal stroke is the best tone (like in the studio, as I mentioned). That's why I suggest to always use them, especially in a rock context.

  • I've learn to use rimshots and an alternative for an accent so that's why I think this way. I always try get a snare that sounds amazing and has power and volume WITHOUT a rimshot so I can use rimshots for this reason. I agree with using them in a rock context, and I recommend everyone trying the same but not to let using them for a better sound and volume to hinder your technique for every other possibilities on the snare by getting use to just using rimshots.

  • You should try rimshots as accents on the massive floor tom for a different sound.

    :)

  • and that is the lowest tuned snare ive ever heard. it would be better if you had a smaller higher tuned snare.

  • He has one on the left side of his kit man!

  • ah! gotcha.

  • God damn dude, you sound a lot like Dane Cook.

  • oh my gosh. i read your comment and didnt look at him. thats ridiculous!

  • i want my snare to turn from medium awesome to really awesome!

  • Nice Color

  • AWESOME!!!!
