1:15 - fook me, how does he sing like that?? Leadbely has such variety in song style -- awesome. Led Zep ripped loads from him (and other bluesmen or even folk singers like Davey Graham - e.g. ) - and did fantastic versions - just wish they would have given credit for the origins of many tunes and classic lyrics that pepper their songs.
@mikegalsworthy leadbelley was a folk singer, not a bluesman.
he didnt write this song, and didnt write most of his songs. he simply provided his renditions (which were obviously quite good) of various southern folk songs. basically like doc watson.
I think he says "You ought to be like me, you ought to be like me, you can drink your good Hye Texas Whiskey boys and let the king corn be" can anyone else hear it. Or have any ideas about what it could be?
@soadfe no one really know his birthdate, but its either janurary first or the 29th or some time late in February i believe so you could be right, and he was in prison many times ha
thanx for the commercial! this song is now REMOVED from my playlist!

Lonnie Donegan and Van Morrison teamed up to do "Skiffle Sessions". This featured on the live recording cd, it's one of my favourite songs.
