Everyone here, as an ex-protestant now an Old Calendar Orthdox Catechuman (being new calendars are in heresy if they embrace ecumenism.) Dont argue with Protestants, just tell them to study History, and actually study where the "Bible" came from that they get the notion of Sola Scriptura from. Quick answer, an Orthodox council with Orthodox Priests looking very Orthodox, venerating Saints, believing in the Eucharist as the body and blood of Christ, NOT just a nice gesture... made the canons.

Its disturbing to see this dispute here...I actually think its good that this person included this music that could help people who aren't familiar with the Russian orthodox world or Russia in general relate to and see the true beauty of these scenes. the sense is not in the story. Really, if you can find subtitles - watch it. It gathered many people in cinemas in Russia without advertising and cinemas couldn't stop showing it at the time they planned.

The actual movie music is by Vladimir Martynov (which is a MUCH better choice than Gregorians presented here !).

The ending of the movie has a wonderful piano melody I love to hear over and over and over again ! I love it !

What kind of band the Gregorian is anyway ?

Once the sing the "Ave Satani" and then hymns and then the "Don't give up" and all over again ! What's wrong with those people ?

Anyway, I hope their final decision of who they are and what they should sing is a holy one.

Viewed this movie for the first time a day ago. Wow! It was remarkable - it captured so well the spirit of Orthodox monasticism, Christian humility and faith. Very hard to come away without beleiving in the power of prayer. Bravo to the producers and directors!

well, and this is one of only few differences, actually pope is a minor problem, Orthodox church recognizes pope a high rank priest but not the idea of his infallibility, which btw seems to be ridiculous, the problem is in politics, everybody wants power, wants leadership ... clerics don't care about faith too much, they only want spread they influence ... This film Ostrov is very good. It shows how a humble secular man can have more faith in God than a priest.

"catholic" has different meaning in "orthodox" religion. Russian Georgian Greek Serbian orthodoxy are the same, part of the same "7 main orthodox" churches, but not grigorian church, it's not considered as Orthodox as well as Coptic, "Asirian Orthodox" "Indian Orthodox"..... By "Orthodox world" they are considered as "gone astray" and completely "lost" as "catholics"
