I like the concept, but the audio is troublesome. Can you explain the distortion? I would have thought that the MIDI synthing would have laid pretty easily over the top, but it seems like it's being fed over a poor mic. Just curious.
Very unique idea here!!! I'm an 18 year old jazz pianist from sacramento goin to UCLA for jazz this fall. Feel free to check out some of my vids. They're ok, but I'll be posting some new ones in the future. I've given you some as responses. Soundin' great!
That was dope man. I really don't know what sounded off about it. And considering you were playing with yourself (no pun intended lol) it turned out real nice if you ask me. I wouldn't say your timing was off. But eh..i guess i'm hearin different things than some others. Keep up the good work.
Now that you mention it, some parts of it are a bit similar to the Mario Bros. 1 theme and some other Nintendo music. I suppose it is because this aswell is two voices playing displaced arpeggiated chords, which is quite common among classic 8-bit 3-voice video game soundtracks.
Interesting concept. I like the idea and can see where we might be able to have quite a bit of fun with this. It does sound much cleaner on your web site, thanks for posting it there as well.
It's a great idea though, I'd love to see a newer version some time. Keep on the videos, they are extremely informative. Almost nobody on YouTube has the guts to let all covers down and expose and demystify all of their technique for anybody to understand. Keep it up!
You are quite right - the playing is sloppy. I suppose that I was too hasty in trying out a new idea - I found a way to split the screen using Windows Movie Maker and for some reason settled on this song, even though I was not all that familiar with it. The bad sync doesn't help, and it would sound better if Youtube was in stereo so that each track could be panned left or right - like the Marion McPartland 'Piano Jazz' duets.
I usually love your videos (a belated thanks) but I really think that this just doesn't sound very well. It's an interesting idea to try and pull off, but you might have either allowed yourself a little more practice before posting this or using a metronome. Also, some notes overlapping in the two tracks sound really irritating. You might have helped the outcome if you had either made a clear tonal split in the middle or memorized your accompaniment and the react to it more...professionally?

You're swinging your eighth notes... kind of feels like there should be a hip hop beat underneath

Now that looks like fun ^_^ Its a great idea to toy with (curse youtube for the sync farce).
It left me yearning for some hart hitting Latin jazz for some reason.

Very nice! You must have sat in the sun before you recorded the melody part.
