If it is reused it will be the oldest used tunnel in the world (the oldest is the Lime St tunnel at Edge Hill station) and the oldest part of any underground rail network.
I was down the tunnel about 25 years ago. Got in from Tunnel Road. At that time somebody had left a wooden raft down there and it was possible to paddle quite a way through.
