This is the sort of thing we want to create now with the Con-Dem coalition cuts to our public sector. The poll tax riots prevented the Poll tax we can prevent the cuts to education and the public sector.

Met some brilliant people in the APTUs, people who'd never had much political thought in their lives came through as the best campaigners, the best speakers, the best organisers. Friendships were formed which have lasted to this day, some fantastic activists were born and the awakening of our class is the one good thing that came out of those dismal, nightmare years of Thatcher. She lost her war on us, her flagship sunk. It's time to wake up again. I hope we can fight again like we did then.

@johnfox3 I agree. They should abolish it. Make it up by raising stamp duty, inheirtance tax, putting capital gains on the home, and issuing a local income tax.
