Could someone explain to me what happened to Seth in regards to his career/aspirations etc.? Like, it seems that all that happens to him is that he gets married. He was a really intelligent guy and had passions (comic books and films) just like Summer and it seems kind of unfair that Summer is the one who gets to fulfil her dream. Seth had dreams too!

This was such a great series, & I still watch it to this day as it comes on SOAPNet every day. I had never been much of a soap fan until I watched this show, & it amazed me. It had great characters, great stories, & great lessons I think. & not to mention, the music in this series was great! I miss this show, & I wish it could have carried on. But also, some shows carry on too long & they just get boring. I think this had a great ending.

Actually Mischa Barton (marissa cooper) still wanted to be in the show. But the writers were going to write off Marissa anyways and gave Mischa two possible choices for the character to leave. Mischa decided that Marissa should die. I think that in the end it was important for the show that Marissa died cause she was the main problems in the OC and in Ryans life. The fourth season was just how the characters dealt with it and could move on with the loss.

And there are no Marissa's flashbacks because they are just to make you remember what Ryan felt when he was taken by the Cohens, and she does appear, but just for the necessary bit. I love you, Josh Shawrts, you made a great show, even though only a few people actually get it!

I know that many people hated when Marissa died, but the whole 4th season was made to prove why she past away, and in the end, how good that was for the caracters that were hold on to her (Julie, Ryan, Summer). This show had a very good ending, yes, I agree that the 3th season has a lot of flaws, like Jonny's death. buy Marissa's is noy one of them, for any reason the writers did it, it make sense and if you don't get it then you don't get the show at all.

Yeah, I agree. If you're going to show flashbacks of the show, at the very least include Marissa. Ryan and Marissa all but carried the show.

@dmacrr The whole story of the O.C was based on Ryan. Marissa (Mischa Barton) wanted to get out of the show, thats why her character died. The whole point of the O.C is how much one homeless, poor kid was adopted, raised, made everyone's life better (hence the dream when taylor and ryan was in hospital), and that he succeeded the American dream in a problem-drama-everlasting community.

Great ending but they used too many flashbacks with people that would resemble the main characters. Would have been better if they just showed Ryan thinking about his past at the payphone with Season 1 clips instead of using that random kid! Good end to a bizarre last season but it's annoying that they had to close out the series so early since writing out Marissa was a mistake. Taylor is a good cast but not in a starring role with Ryan. It should have always been about Ryan with Marissa.

@TheChamp531 Yeah I knew that already, I'm saying that so many writers just kill off characters as the actor or actress leaves the show. Ryan made that show so it wasn't right how Marissa couldn't be with Ryan until the end, she didn't have to be killed off, she could have just went away and stil be very much 'alive' then viewers and fans wouldn't criticise her being killed off straight after her friend died in Season 3 - it just wasn't convincing.
