You should buy Etrian Odyssey 3 for the DS, that game is totally amazing and one of the most in-depth rpgs I have ever played although it is VERY tough in the beginning, you literally have to grind for 3-4 hours before your team is capable enough to progress through the storyline, but the music/visuals are great and make it easy.

RPG's are story driven while Zelda's story is not as elaborate or important as in RPG games.
Besides, Zelda doesn't have a lot of the most usual RPG elements like leveling up, armor, magical or special attacks, etc.
That's why it´s not considered an RPG. (Same for Castlevania)
