@coolguitars I would have done the same! I love this passive sound and regret that my custom Wal basses don't have the possibility to switch to passive. This Pro bass sounds fantastic without the active electronics. More organic and natural. The Wal active EQ produces great sounds but also a lot of crap. I also think that the Swamp ash body produces nicer sounds than the mahogany bodies. I bet it has a great slap sound too. Take good care of this bass, it's a great instrument!
@basshred I fear your have to kill yourself now. He confirmed the price in another email that he sent me. It was nice having you here on my channel. ;-)
Do you mean you are having this Pro II converted to a Pro IIe active version? I have a passive fretless Pro II that I was thinking about converting, but I am assuming you have to ship it to Wal?
You've got a beautiful bass! I love the sound! I wish I had a Wal, one day I will...anyways good playing, good bass, you've got it all! Take care and keep rockin!
I wish I could get tones like this, any tips? Been asking around everywhere, I dont have a high budget, atm, Im using a Fender 60 Watt Amp, Zoom B2.1u, Schecter Stiletto, any tips greatly appreciated =]
Thin nickel strings, a light touch, a bit of compression and a tasty setting on your Zoom maybe. Try with your Zoom on headphones first so the Fender amp has no chance to do too much to your signal. Good luck!
God this is like porn for me...I'd kill for a Wal bass...too bad I don't live in UK where it might be easier to find one...whenever they do pop up for sale here in Canada, prices for them spike to a good 5000..however, it would be worth it...
in ontario in a city called waterloo there are like 20 wal basses for sale for only 2000... Go get one while they're still in stock and for a good price!
Lovely playing, had my Wal cusom from new in 85. They really are the most fantastic basses in the world. For those of you who are interested there is a club site "wall basses naturally" on yahoo. Useful for parts and advice on buying and maintaing one.
Good luck, they have become quite scarce. I love them and want them but used will probally run you over 2k easily on up, I forgot if production has started again yet.
These Pro Basses sell for around 2000 EUR here. Pretty surprising to hear that this passive bass has so much Wal-tone to it. The pickups seem to deliver the wal tone.

@MoveOverCasanova That was an SM Pro Audio Tube Mic Preamp. Inexpensive and with EQ and Compression. But still German engineering. :-)

You said in your description box that you were getting an active board set up for your Wal. Did you ever come around to it?
BTW It still sounds amazing, even without active electronics!
lasteffect 1 year ago
@lasteffect I never made it to put in the new pots for the active board. I just like the bass as it is and enjoy a battery free life. Thanks!

@lasteffect It turned out that the active board has a defect. So I won't be able to use it.
coolguitars 1 year ago
@coolguitars Defect? What was wrong with the active board? But, as I said, It still sounds awesome in Passive.
lasteffect 1 year ago
@lasteffect No idea. Maybe something broke on the board...

@coolguitars PM me to discuss repair or re-engineering of the board.

hey, what bass guitars do you know of that have a similar tone to the wal?
zero906 2 years ago
Hey. It's not easy to copy the sound of a Wal. The pickups are the key and the wood collection.

i'd reallyreallyreallyreally love to get one, but money can be such an ass to people.
great playing, btw
