  • Kel belle interprétation

  • Perhaps I may not have a musical background about breath control and such ... but I know when I love a musical piece ... and I love this one!

  • Good god! People consider her a mezzo?! Her voice is so light!

  • Mi mi mi mi miiiii

  • NADIA KRASTEVA: THE BEST CARMEN FROM TODAY!

  • beautiful face, ugly voice...

  • Not the same passion as Elina Garanca.

  • she's always catching her breath... a good singer of an opera can hold her breath long enough so it won't soil the song... habanera now sounds more on breaths than a beautiful song...

  • @pempotz18 Yeaaaaa you go ahead and do it better then. And pretty sure with her credentials and history in singing, she's doing it right. They don't let 'ugly singers' sing at the Sydney Opera house.

  • Si se aprueba SOPA no podre deleitarme con esto y mis hijos tampoco

    Firmen!!!

    No a SOPA con PIPA

Si al COPYLEFT e internet libre

  • Ela canta muito bem ! Chante trés bien...Obrigado pela postgem desse maravilhoso video...

  • SHE'S NOT A GOOD OPERA SINGER!! THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE MORE TALENTED THAN HER, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME LINSTENING TO THIS WOMAN!!

  • @operistic are you fucking deaf?

  • @hellkitten3000 you are the fucking deaf because if you knew about opera you should have noticed the way that she sang!!!...and i'm not going to discuss with people who don't know aything about opera!!. enough!!

  • @operistic can u sing better than

  • @Justin9249 I never said that I sing better!!! but I said that there are a lot of people more talented and is true!!!! but I don't care if people like you waste your time in her but I do not!!

  • @operistic

Ugh. I have to agree with you here. It's pretty painful listening to her lack of breath control. Plus, why the hell is she singing a mezzo role that's clearly beyond her, vocally and dramatically? Some marketer who knows nothing about opera chose this because it would be sexy. Sad.

  • A 734 ignorantes les gusta lady gaga

  • She is nothing special and her French is terrible as any average british women... Listen to

    Elina Garancha.

  • KK' - MupheeT's [ ¬¬

  • Que peitões!!

  • @NihilisticNymphet, as a (rare) very ancient French, and versed in singing, I assure you she pronounces FR perfect. When singing (in FR or DE at least, which I sang much in a renowned choir), pronunciation (of FR or DE or Latin) is slightly different from "normal" speaking; even native FR prof singers often do pronounce the "r" as she does, NOT as on the FR street.

(Sorry for discovering only today your kind post)

  • Ella es muy muy bonita!

  • her phonetics are off and her pronunciation is bad.

  • Beautiful voice, but strange phrasing...like she's hyperventilating. Maybe she was super-nervous.

  • I bet her daught is Jackie Evancho

  • Prefiero La De Los Muppets xDDDDDDDDDDDDDDd

  • @srodasb AJAJAJAJAJAJAJ MIMIMIMIMIIII♪

  • esta mejor la de los muppets xD

  • Not going to comment on Katherine voice, but she courts controversy. Said someone loaned her £35000 diamond poppy for R.H.A., she gave it to girl to look after who went in cafe and had it stolen from her bag. If someone pulled me from sea after shipwreck I would still be cluthcing bag, never mind with big jewels inside. Soldier who has lost both legs in Afghanistan gets a pension of half that, so I find it so ostentatious. She told news she would like to visit Afghanistan, go quiet like others

  • anybody else notice how the mic's have the exact same curves as the announcers breasts?

Saludos. Pulgar hacia arriba !!

  • She has a beautiful voice but I think her high notes are not the best .... I think she will be able to much more better in opera arias but now... I think she doesn't have a good support of breath. I was thinkin is she really mezzo-soprano? In my opinion her voice could be a bit higher but it depends on her technics. It is just my opinion. Btw I like her

  • @bpetii1 i've always thought that she's a soprano who has no top notes. She forces out those low notes to make herself sound more like a mezzo.

  • is this in greek????

  • @merary1bell

    this is french...dear!

  • @merary1bell no it's in japanese

  • @Dunderhead36 haha I know Japanese/chinese... gosh i was just trying to get an A+ in global!! bbut okay

  • MOJE USZY BOLAŁO !

  • habanera by swedish chef and beaker puppets BOOM

  • She did very well in performing this piece, all she has to do is work on her breathing and she will be fine.

  • "The largest record deal in UK classical recording history." 30,000 a year!

  • she sounds OK, but...she neeeeeds to work on her breathing...then again, what do I know. =p

  • How can she get away with wearing yellow when she's blonde? The mind boggles! She'd probably make a plastic bag look good!

  • Tout a fait. Un faible soufle.

  • wow

  • i wonder if opera singers do a lot of deep throating.

  • @QofLife69 Haha what the hell is dep throating?

  • @alansw5 *deep?

  • She is superb, however, she should most certainly have been taught how and when to breathe properly while performing. Her breaths interrupt the flow of the song, and she does not fill her lungs, she is breathing far too shallow, and thus has to take many rapid, hurried, hasty breaths.

  • @Lunar3Eclipse

I notice that in plenty of her songs. I think she's not that good when there is legato involved/needed.

nevertheless, she's still one of the best "classical pop" singers out there :)

  • @architecandy I totally agree, she has a very light voice for carmen comparded to some of those rich mezzo's out there. Check out Jennifer Larmore's habanera very good. :)

  • @FurAlyssey

and Agnes Baltsa's as well! ^^

  • She's great! I bet half of the FREAKIN people commenting can't even sing and much less opera.

  • When you listen this after listening Elina Garanca you can start cryng or it can be so funny

  • I feel so sorry for Katherine. Unfortunately, most of you are right in that this was a poor performance, but it was poor for her. I've heard her singing many times as my parents are fond her work and I think this is her in early stages of her career (as said at the beginning of the video). Try listening to her Chanson Beheme, performed during Popstar to Opera Star. I think she's outstanding in it.

  • She is not a real mezzo-soprano. She is a light soprano. The pronuntiation is bad. Who is this pseusopera singer???Her high not is bad bad wrong wrong.

  • @Youkali67 Totally agree, it seems you are experienced about singing

  • @quetzalcoatl2870 Thanks, I have a masters in singing.

  • who sings opera with a microphone...this sucks

  • WOULD SOMEONE PUT THIS CHOKING CAT OUT OF HIS MISERY!

  • awsome!!!!!!!

  • Perle nere!!!

  • Compare Jenkins with Callas interpreting the same piece. One does not hear Callas taking breath while Jenkins seems to be drowning.

  • @desouzasantos1949 I feel like these mics might be a touch more sensitive then what Callas had, not to be argumentative.

  • I'm terribly sorry for this comment. But what I hear is a choking bird

  • The dancers are the best thing in this video

  • @truvianni This button right here >>> 3:38 <<< is the best ting in the movie

  • @AnimatedOP without a doubt

  • Many told me Jenkins was not very good but they were wrong. This is even worse then I thought.

  • Her breath is terrible and phrasing is awful - You can not like this voice on a technical level at all. - The record companies saw eye candy. She is more a musical theatre singer - poor love, she started too early!

  • This is pathetic. Her French is awful. The Romanian diva is billion times better. Awful awful awful and overrated.

  • @vitalbits11 I would say two billion times better

  • You know what? Jenkins is gorgeous and she has a beautiful voice. And all you fanboys who think that knowledge of and dedication to Maria Callas makes you anything special... you're delusional. Talent like Katherine Jenkins has, makes one exceptional, whereas critics are a dime a dozen without a modicum of the talents you try to judge. Make a contribution or move on.

  • @dudeofopinion Try listening to Elina Garanca, Rinat Shaham, Marina Domashenko, Anna Caterina Antonacci, Jennifer Larmore and Denyce Graves singing this and then see if you still consider Katherine Jenkins exceptional.

  • @jewelmarkess Absolutely. One person's talent does not detract from another's. She doesn't have to be the best to be great and to bring audiences together to appreciate beautiful music. In terms of the general population, this performance IS exceptional. I don't personally know anyone who can sing like that and I'm willing to bet that's the case for the majority of people, thus she's exceptional.

  • @dudeofopinion In terms of general population and maybe even among today's pop singers, what you said is true. But this is an opera aria and the professional standards for singing this are similar to that of instrumental classical music -- musical and vocal perfection or near perfection, quiet breathing, no breath breaks in phrases, diction, tonal beauty, phrasing, expressiveness. Artistry. Think of someone playing Chopin in public and different standards for amateurs and professionals.

  • Comment removed

  • @jewelmarkess I think after hearing those great mezzos and I might add my personal favorite Agnes Baltsa; one would consider Jenkins not only not to be execptional but even less then average

  • @truvianni Yes, Baltza is excellent - I have a DVD of Carmen with her and Carreras and I really like it - although she isn't my personal favorite, I still like her a lot. There are a number of videos of full Carmen here, although I doubt there is one with Baltza given as the it comes on a copyrighted DVD and not old tv broadcasts that someone recorded. Jenkins would never be able to sing on opera stage.

  • @jewelmarkess I have that very same DVD at the Met of course with Levine conducting and it is available here on youtube as a matter of fact I was just listening to it. Naturally I also like Elina Garanca as Carmen but I believe at that level it is a matter of just taste. If you look for “Les Tringles Des Sistres Tintaient” Baltsa you should find it

  • @dudeofopinion I'm no Callas fan, but the opera singers jewelmarkess mentions are ones you might try listening to. You might be surprised and like them better than Jenkins. What Jenkins looks like is irrelevant to her singing. Physical beauty doesn't make a singer a great singer.

  • @dudeofopinion right critics are a dime a dozen but singers like this one come at about the same price

  • and 3 years she didn`t support her high notes or portamenti...pf these teachers nowadays. well at least she has her fans.

  • i feel classy listening to this.

  • красотка )

  • Awesome!

  • Shame she cant breathe properly. Nice tits, though.

  • Shame she cant breathe properly. Nice tits, though.

  • I like her voice, but her accent is not so pleasant...

  • mozna sie zakochac!!!

  • Nobody will ever sing this part of Carmen like Maria Callas.

  • @sharkatacks Nobody CAN.

  • @sharkatacks

Oh will I ever agree more with somebody!

  • @sharkatacks Agnes Baltsa's version is not bad either :)

  • เจ๋งอะ good..

  • @bumblebeetwentythree FUCK YOU...you're just jealous of her coz besides the fact that she's a fantastic singer, she's also stunningly beautiful... learn to accept that you're not blessed as she is..life loser

  • @themslucinda What a horrid thing to say to someone. You don't even know this person. He or she could be a very accomplished opera singer for all you know.

  • @arpeggio1358 This comment made my day

  • @arpeggio1358 people have opinions. they are entitled to their opinions, whether correct or incorrect they might be.

  • someone undo her zipper & teach this woman to breath! apart from that, she has a beautiful colorful tone

  • Good performance, but out of breath at times, I thought.

  • @methuselus Not out of breath...she's gathering breath for the next high notes...

  • merveilleux

  • Seems to me KJ gets under the skin of a lot of critics. She must have some strange power over them. The mental torture these critics must be goin' thru'. Knowing that KJ is very successful yet she's not perfect, no wonder the critics are manic. But if you cannot afford psychotherapy, I can suggest a way to be cured. Throw your prejudice out the window [instead of your toys out of the pram], and APPRECIATE her.

  • Possibly the worst version of this song I've ever witnessed. She needs breathing lessons and French lessons. She might as well be chewing gum and speaking pig latin.

Don't give up your day job sweetie, how else are you going to pay for your next plastic surgery?

  • Well, her voice is clear and pretty, but her breathing is really poor. Not to mention that she was slightly off pitch on some notes. Maybe she was just having a really bad day? I would like to think someone that sings classical this poorly on a regular basis wouldn't be offered a big contract.... but who am I kidding.

  • @HelenaParthenos Just shows then that your opinion must be faulty. Millions of KJ fans can't be wrong. You on the other hand are just one person. You are outnumbered.

  • @VinnyLog Funny.... I don't seem to be "just one person" on the comments page. There are many people that seem to express the exact same opinion that I have. In fact, there seems to be more negative than positive about this performance. As I SAID in my last comment, maybe she was having a bad day. I was not passing judgment on her over all ability based on this one time that I heard her. Before you get uppity and personally insulting, try actually comprehending the commentary first.

  • @HelenaParthenos Look at how popular she is on youtube, compared to who YOU like. Even the critics cannot keep away. Could it be that YOU dream of fame but it remains a DREAM to you. Hence your grudge against her...

  • @VinnyLog Could it be you are defending her because you secretly idolize and desire her? I marvel at how such a simple disagreement of opinion has escalated into personal attacks upon people you don't even know.

  • @Emerson4Vet I guess it looks that way that am defending her cos I desire her, as you put it, but its really that I feel my intelligence is attacked because I decide someone is good and then someone comes along and says, hey youre wrong. You mention personal attack, I'd have a go at your talent but as youre an unknown, I can't. / Who is the young woman doin' poor wandrin' one in the wine dress? I recognise Adolf Hitler in the photo, top left of film...

  • @VinnyLog I am beginning to see that this is a misinterpretation of words. If you feel that I attacked you and your opinion, then you are mistaken. I simply stated mine; and I stand by mine, that I feel KJ has a nice tonal quality but I feel that, by her voice type, she needs to stick with pop music. And you already have attacked me, by accusing me of seething jealousy and rendering me mundane. But I can forgive you for that.

  • @Emerson4Vet You can forgive? Aaw thanks. Am sure KJ would forgive you too, for expecting her to be perfect. Pop music? You obviously don't listen to any pop. Nobody in the pop world has a voice thats meant for classical. I must go now and visit my wife and her 3 legged cat...

  • @VinnyLog Concerning the photograph, I just took a look at it. It's our School of Music's founder, the legendary Dr. John M. Long. I was a little baffled by the video, too, lol

  • @HelenaParthenos You are therefore lookin' at singing with the wrong attitude. You[and other critics] pick fault unnecessarily with technique, instead of just listening and hoping it makes you feel good. Your attitude toward a singer is shallow, you are obsessed with the text book, instead of appreciating a human being. Your comment...'' but who am I kidding'' just about sums you up.

  • She's simply pathetic at this. Any idiot can see other performances of this song on You Tube and make up their mind.

    She's overhyped.

  • @vitalbits11 Your comment...'' any idiot can see other performances etc '' makes me wonder why then are you viewing KJ when you could be watching another performance??? The truth is that Katherine Jenkins is the most watched classical singer on youtube[ apart from Callas]. She has an aura about her that critics and fans are attracted to. Therefore it doesnt matter if all the comments are negative against her, it just means that she's more popular than those snooty fat ugly ones.

  • She has a great voice, but needs to improve her phrasing.

This could be a little more dramatic too.

  • You can say what you want, but her voice is so beautiful!

  • beautiful

  • her voice has no umph "/

  • ok peeps she sounds beautiful too me yea she shouldnt breathe like that but u dont have to hate on her

  • Comment removed

  • @17sunnyhour i dont know '-'

  • She is pritty but that aria is not for her, sorry, she is a sopran and not a good one.

  • They made her wear a tight dress. She may have packed a few pounds and the bosses didn't want her to show that on TV. That's why she's breathing like that. Poor girl...

  • If you guys like her singing, you´d like Edson Cordeiro even more!! (well, he knows how to breath..)

  • I think she sounded bad. She breathed in between every single phrase. I'm a high school student and I know better not to breathe between phrases. I guess "being one of the greatest class music success stories for the past 12 months, graduating from the Royal Academy of music 3 years ago, signing the largest UK record dealing classical recording history, having 2 of the best selling CD's and having performed at the Sydney Opera House," doesn't make you that great afterall.

  • @gabrielwalker94 Greater than you tho eh???

  • Opera is sung without microphones. She has a mic.

  • ahora sin microfonoo xD

  • Hey everyone... I reckon arpeggio1358 and Jlazar are one and the same person. I bet they are having their strings pulled by philipc67...

  • @VinnyLog Wow, how obsessive are you. Yes, we are the same demented, acidic critic. Mind you, we do have a life and a career etc, but we also enjoy music with educated taste and can tell between a real opera singer and a fake. And KJ, who has never sung a stage role, with her mediocre voice, zero technique, zero breathing, zero diction, and slutty tight dresses over plastic tits, is the lowest of the low, for the enjoyment of leery old men. Only Filippa Giordano surpasses her in trash factor.

  • I think wats wrong with her breathing is she is opening her mouthe to wide to reach the higher notes thus less air

  • @chuckslovemuffin I'm studying singing, and I don't think breathing would be a problem. I think her problem is wrong projection, her voice being stuck in the back. But I'm a lyric soprano, I don't know much about mezzo voice....

  • @frufruJ The reason I think its the breathing is because of her face when she is singing it looks like shes not keeping enough air to do it that also might help with her projection to.

  • @chuckslovemuffin OK, I guess you're right. But I still think the main problem is her projection/placement of voice. It's really ugly. I listened to some of her non-opera recordings and was surprised how beautiful her voice was. Her interpretation was still boring, but the voice was there. I guess she can't breathe properly because she doesn't have an opera technique and both her problems with breath and wrong voice placement are results of that?

  • @frufruJ You critics, individuals, are isolated in your opinions. Youre outnumbered by the millions of KJ fans who know how to appreciate a fine classical singer. Its human nature to criticise when youre driven by jealousy and a disenchantment with your own life.

  • @VinnyLog I'm not driven by jealousy or anything. Let her have her millions. I don't like the fact that this Barbie doll is presented as a good classical singer. If I'm wrong, why doesn't she sing in the opera? Let her sing Carmen at La Scala, and we'll see if her fans outnumber anybody. "Millions of her fans can't be wrong" is a mere argumentum ad populum, doesn't prove anything, since people who listen to her don't know much about good classical music.

  • @frufruJ I think you really did not present a good argument. Why? Because she is beautfiul and sexy she cannot be a good opera singer? That has no logic to it. To quote Jamie Kennedy from Malibu's Most Wanted "don't be hating". Seriously that argument makes as no sense! She may very well sing Carmen at La Scala one day. The true pity here is that your snobbery is not letting you hear the beauty and sexiness of one of the most sexy arias ever. In otherwords...open you mind!!!!
