This is Richard's best song without a question. There is nothing like vintage Psychedelic furs! It is not the sax that make the Furs. It is Richard Butler. It is all Richard Butler boys and girls, not John whats his name.
@MisAnnThorpe you may have a point there but if they'd had THAT sax player instead they'd have been off the charts... don't get me wrong- i loved good ol' what's-his-name but this here guy's SMOKIN!
@yoursaxman While I can't disagree that this bloke's obviously an highly accomplished saxophonist, (at least I think that's what you're saying!) I personally think that Duncan Kilburn's slightly amateurish sound was far more suited to the Furs's sound. The first two albums just wouldn't have been the same without him. I just couldn't imagine anyone else playing on Dumb waiters.
@MisAnnThorpe Duncan Kilburn- that's his name- was an inspiration to me in the '80's for exactly the reason you (and i) think he was better for the sound/feel of the Furs. Kilburn had tuning issues- he played flat like many young saxes due to adjusting to cranial resonance without good monitors... the thing is- Duncan made it work- sounding both innocent yet aggressive. if that makes any sense...
Duncan was the sax player i started out as, Mars Williams is the player i currently aspire to...
@yoursaxman Thanks for trying to explain things in their most basic terms. I almost understand what you're saying! Seriously though, that does kind of make sense even to this very naive "musician".
The same lineup showed up in the 2008 Barcelona gig: Richard, Tim, Richard Fortus (guitar), Mars Williams (Sax), Frank Ferrer (Drums) and if there was a keyboard player, it much probably was Dizzy Reed.
After 2:00 minutes into the video they look more like the Genuine Imitation of Christ.

This is my favourite Furs song, and this don't sound half as good as it should. It's a shame when a band can't play it's own material properly.

The Psychedelic Furs without John Ashton are NOT the Psychedelic Furs!

@MisAnnThorpe I agree. I enjoyed the Furs' live album, but was shocked that Duncan wasn't on it.

my favourite track from the Furs. Glad to hear that Richard's voice is still in form.

Loved the sax solo. Wish they had brought a sax player over for the Shepherds Bush concert in 2005.
Thanks Trippy.
