You should install windows 7 from an USB pendrive it s so easy and so usefull,and the most important you will have your installation ready in 5-10 minutes..
I'm not interested in Windows installation, you could have just ignored this part and jumped to after installation, showing how this drive can improve speed, that's really the interesting part IMO.
external optical drive.. I laughed so hard. seriously, copy the shit to a bootable partition on a USB drive.. the install speed will blow your mind. If you have the option, use (e)sata, oh wait there is no port for that on your laptop, woups. not even a expresscard or pcmciacard option.. lulz
@SilverWing9999 It's just a SATA (or IDE) to USB converter to use internal components externally, kind of common to find in computer or gadget stores.
OMG :S You don't know how to remove a sata 2.5" properly, or even to secure the drive cage to the new 2.5" drive, or that your installing a 32bit OS on the system with 4GB of memory. :S

@dualboy24 Secure the drive cage? All 4 screws where tightly screwed, and the screws that secures the cage to the actual laptop is not that often used... And, as he says "I really don't need the extra benefits of 64bits". And after all, you do not loose really much memory capacity.
100% agree!! This guy removed the factory operating system to put in a crappier version. In the process he REMOVED THE OVER CLOCKING OPTION. I appreciate people taking the time to do video reviews, but don't show people stuff that is going to mess up their computers...take the time to learn about the computers you are reviewing and the features that make them great. Regardless this is a very good thin and light laptop.
@dualboy24 You do know that 32-bit actually supports 4 GB memory? Of course that's total system memory, meaning a total of GPU+RAM memory, but since the GPU in UL30VT is only 512 MB memory, he will still be able to access 3-3.5 GB of his RAM which probably is perfectly enough for what he is going to do with his laptop.
Were you able to reinstall ExpressGate and get the graphics switching to work properly? I want to add an SSD to my UL80Vt. I don't want to lose ExpressGate though.
sorry to disappoint you guys but this asus is a 900 dollar computer,runs win 7,super fast, and asus is known to have one of the best quality lasting computers
if it were a laptop i'd recommend using Windows XP/Vista/7 for all the gaming and things like that relating to media, and Partition it with Ubuntu/Debian or Fedora or another great Linux software for all your surfing just because its safer and convenient. no need to buy an extra fancy Mac, and Linux works great, i love it. and then for gaming just switch to windows.
problem is this thing is a full out netbook, largest one around at that, and i'd just use Ubuntu for my main OS, no windows at all

For this laptop it's probably ideal to use the provided disk because it includes drivers to use switch the graphics cards over also to overclock the cpu (plus other cool things). Although your install worked, you're not going to get the 10-12 hour battery life, more like 5-6.
Nice video, but you were a bit in-experienced with doing this, some things that were quite obvious for me but then again a very nice video. Also the choice of 32-bit, I would have chosen the 64-bit so you can use all the ram because In my experience it really does a huge difference.

A few things...
1. RTFM; or at least look up how to install a hard drive. Sheesh...
2. you don't know what TRIM is, (just guessing) but when you spend $200 on a hard drive, you better make sure you know what you're doing
3. 4GB RAM? 32-bit OS? Wow.........
4. All the power management programs and stuff were on that other dvd. Your battery life isn't going to be nearly as good as it could have been.

if it were a laptop i'd recommend using Windows XP/Vista/7 for all the gaming and things like that relating to media, and Partition it with Ubuntu/Debian or Fedora or another great Linux software for all your surfing just because its safer and convenient. no need to buy an extra fancy Mac, and Linux works great, i love it. and then for gaming just switch to windows.
problem is this thing is a full out netbook, largest one around at that, and i'd just use Ubuntu for my main OS, no windows at all

For this laptop it's probably ideal to use the provided disk because it includes drivers to use switch the graphics cards over also to overclock the cpu (plus other cool things). Although your install worked, you're not going to get the 10-12 hour battery life, more like 5-6.

@mlgprojoey i have an acer.. they make good computers they have cheep ones for people who just brows the net, then they have some really nice computers also. there all the same hardware made in the same place in china japan and korea.

I have had 3 acer laptops, 2 acer lcd screens, and they all broke un less then a year, im now with asus, and nothing has broken so far

Which part of Lenovo speaks high end to you? I meant IBM cuz I meant IBM, and I meant ThinkPad series such like T and X. and even tho the PC division was sold to Lenovo, but the core tech and quality control is EXACTLY THE SAME on ThinkPad, well of course those later laptops made by Lenovo shared some of the look and quality are NO WHERE near the old IBM days. so learn somethin mate and think before you start googling and wikipedia.

Ok moron, simply visit Lenovo's website and order Thinkpad instead of Ideapad, then u'll get ur "IBM" laptops, they are essentially the same thing, same quality control, assembling line, core technology, design direction, the only differences are marketing effort and ownership.
and it's not reminiscing the old days, ThinkPad is still the Top laptops in the market, from the price point to material and quality. u ought to learn anything, go deeper rather than just see the surface?

you sure are living in some dream world genius...Since early 2005, the ThinkPad range has been manufactured and marketed by Lenovo, which purchased the IBM personal computer division. I feel pretty comfortable with my facts Genius (Wikipedia)...but you can always point me the some proof...if you have any...lol

oh my god, didn't u read my last comment? it explained to you perfectly, ThinkPad is different Lenovo's OWN Ideapad, When IBM sold the pc division, they didnt just sell the BRAND, they sold EVERYTHING related to that Brand, including core technology, trademarks, assemblng line as well as their quality contraol measures. the ThinkPad now is not much different from when it was owned by IBM. ThinkPAd is not MANUFACTURED by Lenovo, it is manufactured by the same ppl but under different managerment

opinion? how can one form that kinda opinion. if u were old enough then it was all in the news, i ain't gonna sit here and find those company history and milestones stuff for ya, im not that big of a IBM person, if it were SONY, I have everything here with me. I dont need anyone to believe me, any sane person would just have to take the computer apart and look at it. u do know lots rich and famous ppl on youtube but with fake names such like myself eh?! u wouldnt cuz u aint us. that explains
