It can't be 90% in Reykjavík you probably mean Reykjavík,Hafnarfjörður,Kópavogur and Garðabær I'd never be somewhere else than in Iceland(Ísland) on New Years Eve(Gamlárskvöld).
Kids here on icelands (most kids) dont care about this, all they do it buy fireworks take out of em all the powder and put em together in 1 big bomb and then they blow up something with it haha
I went to Iceland and saw this in 1999. I watched from The Pearl/Perlan. It was BETTER than the massive Y2K Millenium Display in London the year after! Icelanders are completely crazy - in a nice way! :o)
I was there, at the perlan in Reykjavik! Amazing night, so much better than celebrations back home in England. Thank you Reykjavik for making my new years eve truly unforgettable. You guys know how to party!

I can't believe how many fireworks are used over there in Iceland! Over here in Canada, where I live anyway, we didn't see many fireworks...maybe just a few or so. This is crazy though :) You guys did so many! Happy New Year Iceland!

In the US, fireworks usage is picking up on New Years Eve. Many backyard shows rival those on the 4th of July now, especially in the southern US.
