  • I could really start diggin' these guys ^^. I'm a huge fan of Godflesh/Neurosis but get put off when comparisons start flying about but this is just pure & beautiful noise-scape...more experience than music in its traditional form.

  • I wanna try playing a cover of "It took the night to beleive" at one of my schools concerts

  • EARGASM

  • Play your gloom axe Steven O'Malley

  • Je ne comprends pas. Desolée!

  • I don't get it. It's one solid note for 11 minutes, it sounds like a broken refrigerator.

  • @crosseyedmonkee hahahaahahahhaha. Love U!

  • @crosseyedmonkee Yes but if you're there. And you feel air around you vibrating the way they do. It's an interesting experience. :)

  • @crosseyedmonkee yes, but they play it so loud so it's like getting hypnotized, or getting high

  • need more fog..

  • This is nothing compared to Yellow Swans

  • People that don't get "it" have never purchased any album by O))) and lived by the mantra found inside each one: Maximum Volume Yields Maximum Results.

This is music to be felt AND heard. If you don't like it, then go just "listen" to your shit and leave us alone with our shit. We can't hear your fuckin' complaining anyway, our music's too loud...

  • @Slekkevet Your comment makes me tired/this music is Anti-Hatred/makes me feel more alive/Anti-Emptiness/. *SyBlur~

  • It sounds like godzilla is coming.

  • ROFL

  • I shouldn't bother with all the kids just discovering Sunn O))) and think its boring pretentious crap, but it's to be felt..not heard if that makes sense.

Especially live, can you imagine the sonic energy and reverb just raping your body?

  • Nonsense

  • watching this video, suicide is a constant in my mind

  • @thiagojrs absent of suicide/am empowered & spiritually transcending. *R~

  • @The3PhoenixWithin a good ambient song or some later Death song is enough, this is... i can't explain, it'd be fun to go to their concert and feel my all that vibrations in my chest, that's all

  • @thiagojrs hahaha lol do it then! just kidding.

  • it's like they're ripping off Neil Youngs Live Rust tour, except they're not songwriters or musicians. I think the aesthetic and vibe is cool, but it gets boring about 50 seconds in, really fucking boring.

  • @78hiwatts you need to stop listening to the music and start feeling it

  • @Ezkatonia Totally, dude. Well said.

  • Tabs?

  • @mrkillitoss lmfao!

  • I used to listen to good music, then I took an arrow in the knee.

  • Is there a Sun O))) tour coming up in 2012? I'd love to see them!!

  • @muffigw seriously

  • @muffigw Yes there is. I'm seeing them in June, in France.

  • hail amarr. CVA for the win!

  • When does the music start ?

  • Just imagine the kinds of drugs people were taking there!

  • @CapnKeys i know a gang of straight edge kids who say sunn gets them high lmao

  • "A Big church"? Hah. I see what you did there.

  • terrible "music" cool video though.

  • @uglyguido Yep. I remember when I didn't know what music was.

  • @systemsmith not music...by modern standards? have you been paying any attention to music for the last 100 years?

  • someone should speed this up and see what happens

  • @systemsmith It is music, it's just art music not popular music...

  • @MELONMOVIES Yes. I wish I were there, experiencing it. I'd get something out of it, and the fact that I cannot predict what that is, is what makes it so important.

  • i had a dream like this once

  • @Emptywordsv also black one. its fucking intense. the final tracks vocals are what happen when you lock a vocalist in a coffin with a microphone.

  • this is completely amazing. a total meditative experience with sound.. and the concept, the live performance, the church...it all fits perfectly with the music... because this IS music.. at its pure state and form

  • This music is beyond my understanding.

  • @systemsmith "...it's not music necessarily, at least not by modern standards..." You are simply wrong by all standards modern or otherwise.

  • I saw them last night

they were so strong that break

    the bones...

    it's seemed to fly

    amazing experience...

  • @systemsmith I'm curious to know what music " is by today's standards" and who these people are who decide what counts as music, as well as what is certain to be their highly intellectual reasoning behind these decisions.

  • @itsmedude1020 No idea what constitutes music. Like art, or beauty, it's in the eye of the beholder. Who am I to judge? I guess I just mentioned it in the sense that it isn't something I'd stick on if I was having a party or would listen too on the way to work on a Monday morning. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate the creativity, and I've come back to listen to this video on numerous occasions. I'm by no means a hater and will be checking out 'Monoliths....' forthwith.

  • @systemsmith I understand you man, I just dislike society's ignorant preconceptions that they tend to cling onto as if they had some substance to them.

I personally would also reccomend the "Domkirke" album, it's a bit more droney, but it really captures their creativity/ingenuity while still keeping a cloudy atmosphere. Just look up the album on here and listen to the first track... it's almost all done on a pipe organ in the church that they proformed in.

  • O)))

  • going to see them tonight! fuck yeah!

  • @Grindfucker69 where do you find out where they are going to have a show?

  • That has an amazing atmosphere

  • The Druids return to Stonedhenge!

  • ^^ I second this

  • is sun christian?

  • @musicfolife1 No. Some lyrics refer to just darkness, and some occultism...

  • @systemsmith

Well I think it's perfectly musical by pretty much every standard, really. It's just kinda weird. But so are lots of musics. I agree about the boneshaking bass loudness, though!

  • This is Drone Metal Right?

  • 52s Rolling a joint :D

  • there are a lot worse bands out there....I love the theater of it all. A band that makes people question and discuss whether or not it's music or not is great in my book...leather vests, ironic glasses, skinny pants, greasy hair or fucking hooded robes? I think the answer is clear. LOUD and clear.

  • ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ,some1 somewhere is having a fucking laugh..

  • 5:44 - epic

    comparatively speaking that is.

    somebody fuckin shoot me

  • 5:44 - epic

    comparatively speaking that is.

  • people that don't understand this band are dumb. go listen to lady gaga, dubstep, or whatever "rock" band is currently holding your interest you closed minded idiots. I don't want you to figure out why people are into it or whatever the hell brought you to this youtube page, because you don't deserve to like it

  • @cyruseli

You seem pretty close minded yourself.

  • @Pontus900 interweb appearances can be deceiving. I think I was drunk when I wrote that... I mostly stand by it though, maybe with a tad less dickishness

  • @Pontus900

    :P

  • Honest question: Is the main reason why people like this band because they play loud and the sound waves make you feel something? I mean, couldn't any band, or person, do this? Could I, who have no guitar skills, switch places with that guitarist up there, play a chord occasionally, and make it seem like I'm in the band? Do they do specific chords in sequence which have a certain effect? Or is it just fucking around basically? It just seems like that to me, but I don't really know.

  • @Mishogyny In response to all your questions except the first; Short answer: to some extent, yeah, but not really. Long answer: You have to take into account more than just droning random notes when the notes you're playing are being sustained for so long; this includes but is not limited to feedback, reverberation, timbre, key, frequency, amplitude, psychoacoustics...and though it may not seem like it, actually memorizing the songs and keeping in time...All of which are connected in some way.

  • @Mishogyny and in response to your FIRST question; Hipsters listening to this to be cool excluded, people like this band for the same reason anyone likes any ambient music; it creates a sensational atmosphere, evokes feelings or emotions that most music normally wouldn't, be it soothing, unsettling, or whatever, and like you said, when you see them live, you practically find yourself drowned in sound.

  • @SyluxLockjaw Alright, thanks for the excellent reply :)

  • @Mishogyny The answer you just received. And in shorter response: clearly you couldn't.

  • ou eu nao sei apreciar musica ou esses caras sao ruins demais O_O

  • why? do you want to awake zhe demons O.O

  • gonna make a ZX Spectrum Tape loader tribute band after listening to this!

    anyone wanna join?

  • Its pretty bad when you know what song they're playing.

  • "Not music?" Is it sound? Is it organized? Yup. Okay. Let's move on then.

  • Geez.... what a rowdy crowd. I'd fall asleep standing there if it wasn't for the continuous strumming of 3 chords blasted at 95Db inside a stone church.

    Pure Garbage.

  • FUH.

  • Amazing band. Really. I would´ve loved to be there.

What camera did you recorded this with? Did it had a pad to avoid saturation?

  • I like the guitar solo.

  • Listening to this, it already feels like I'm seeing a normal band live. Seeing this band play live for real must be unthinkably loud...

  • Fair play to people who enjoy this style of music, but i must say I myself would find it hard not to get totally bored playing such music

  • I love it when people overestimate the importance of their opinion of music. Don't like it? Consider it "talentless"? No catchy riff or vocals? I don't care, I really don't. Go listen to whatever you like and revel in your self-righteous opinion of things. Just remember, no one cares. I don't care, fans of Sunn don't care, Sunn themselves don't care. Have a nice day and remember, you probably aren't a musician or you are a musician but have no appreciation as to the actual definition of art.

  • I just thought of something. Sunn's concerts are notoriously loud (which is mostly the point). Take their already earsplitting amp setup and multiply that by the acoustics of the church, which would compound the effect. Holy crap it must've been loud!

  • which song they are playing?

  • @mahamrityumjay , the ultimate drone-noise song. In other words, the name of the song doesn't matter.

  • @rrreinhard haha so true. but i guess it's a unique experience...

  • @mahamrityumjay THUMMMMMMMMMM!

  • it seems like the audience is in trance

  • I was getting into it until about 7:50 when the next note is dragged out even longer than usualm. When he does the crowd cheered, add in the fact that some guy is basically taking a photo every time the guy strums and i just burst out laughing. I couldnt stop until the clip finished.

  • I was told by a friend that they put dope in the fog machines. Seriously? Did they?

  • @DecoSBoss Well, it would be impossible to burn anything with dry ice, so no. They'd have to use an expensive vaporiser linked into the fan mechanism, even then most of the good particles would cause the fog to condense, so most would end up just stuck to everything. If the fog machines were smoke machines maybe. But no. Im sure plenty o people could get away with smoking a spliff in such an atmosphere, giving the impression that the fog machine was pumping out the good green. Myth busted.

  • making me cry!

    from the beautifulness!

  • @terninals "beauty" not "beautifulness"

  • I have shot up oxycontin and played two chords over and over for like an hour.

  • This band is about experience. When you people argue that this isn't music, us fans aren't necessarily disagreeing... The point of this (based on my opinion and Sunn O)))'s explanations) is not to make catchy memorable tunes, but to set an atmosphere which puts you in a simpler-minded state that calms you down or messes with your head and manipulates your ability to keep track of time. But of course everyone has their own view of it.

  • beautimus maximus

  • room full of herion addicts

  • @jimmy23456 and cocaine

  • this music isn't for everyone, but more people could appreciate it if they didn't have a short attention span. try listening to lull, brian eno, and E.A.R. to prepare you for ambient/atmosphere music. you might learn to like it.

  • Sounds like my amp when i leave it on loud and go take a shit. This is talentless shit.

  • @jacobschmidt51 2deep4u

  • @jacobschmidt51 dont know shit... drone is not about some melody, its about creating an atmosphere. them playing in a church with this lighting and such is all part of it. if you dont like it you dont need to call suno)), an art fourm that these guys enjoy, talentless.

  • @jacobschmidt51 so what exactly qualifies as talent then? this is experimental to say the least, much in the same way that color field or cubism paintings changed the way artists viewed the color wheel and basic shapes which more or less breathed life back into modern art. really the two are the same, here Sunn O))) is taking the raw and simple droning guitar and showing how it can show just as much feeling as shredding can. hard to listen to? maybe. talentless? not by a long shot.

  • @jacobschmidt51 I agree completely.

  • How can people listen to this? It's just fucking noise. I'm all for experimentation with strange time signatures, weird tones, etc. But there has to be a point at which something is no longer music, and Sunnn O))) has passed that point.

  • @stratd00d Drone man, drone. its all about atmosphere. i suspect you are one of two things ( neither of which are negative) 1) not a fan of sludge or 2) never been totally fucked up to the point were you feel similar to how this song plays.

thats why you dont like this and its understandable

  • @stratd00d And what's the definition of music? In the end all music is noise right?

  • @djAbrasive

Music is rhythm, harmony, and melody. This has none of those! :P

  • @stratd00d No. Study the history of 20th century music. You don't know shit.

  • @SexonToastable Care to elaborate?

  • @stratd00d nevermind ;)

  • @stratd00d well, this has rhytm [even its veeery slow], aslo harmony and melody as well [but again, its stretched over 1 minute]...buddhist ritual singings were not music? ehm...this redeminds me of those little bit.

  • @stratd00d you need electricity, a musik-player, speakers and that stuff, turn it on, and you can listen to it...

i love that kind of "music", it's like a mediation...

  • Rocking in the house of the lord. The bodies in the nearby graveyard could feel the vibrations.

  • 3 notes in a minute....thats really funny....NOT

  • in march i´ve been in a electric wizard, but this is fucking curch on fire!!!! They have no drummer...Am i wrong?

  • Where's the drummer ?

  • @bullrushdotnet ........they dont have one...its drone.

  • How does one act at a Sunn O))) concert?

Generally, if I listen to them at home, I put on a good set of headphones, blast as loud as they go and zone out for half an hour at a time.

I wouldn't feel comfortable doing that around people >.>

  • This must have been fucking amazing.. damn I need to experience Sunn 0))) live!

  • Darth Sidius plays guitar now?

  • fuck you suck, rot in hell sunn o)))

  • @paqtesmm92 they can...and they will.but you will also and youll have to listen to them there to , so they win

  • do people find a rlly stretched out power cord enterntaining for two hours?

  • SO FUCKING JEALOUS

  • wow ive herd some terrible shiet in my life

  • awesomeness!!!! I bloody love this! my laptop speakers are not doing justice to this incredible atmospheric feast.

  • @IronCladBen, yes, I do! If you saw this live, you would too. Funny, I ask myself that same question about roller coasters, esp. ones in the dark.

  • I am trying to get into these guys but I feel like it's an "Emperor has no clothes" type deal. Do people really dig this?

  • @IronCladBen -- I saw them open for Celtic Frost a few years ago. They were really cool for about 5 minutes. Then it got old. Really, really old.

  • @rovibe thanks for sharing!

  • Praise Jesus!

  • Orthodox Caveman

  • The craziest thing about it is that some strange people really like this shit... ô.o

  • @derjones636 the craziest thing about this is you are the minority on this comment section that doesn't like this.

  • this is shit...

  • @z3dbr gay

  • These guys have style. Awesome.

  • i definatly have to go to one of thier concerts

  • woah..

  • Gah! They're coming! Hide yo kids, hide yo wife!

  • This is Pure Art! Hail!!

  • I'm speechless. Honestly have no words on how I feel right now.

  • This concert looks so weird... Lol everyone's standing around staring at the stage looking like zombies XD

  • @weirdcast2 well.... It is a Sunn show?

  • @666liquidswords Yeah good point.... I guess that's pretty much all you can do while listening to ambient music :P

  • @weirdcast2 yeah, I can't really get into sunn much through recordings, but if they came to Iowa I'd be all over that chance to see them live.

  • I love it that not all churches are bitching around because its Metal.

  • the sustain on those guitars is incredible. it sounds like someone using and band saw or something. love it ha ha

  • future?!

  • This is just so phenomenal. Thier music never fails to blow my mind, and I usually listen to folk music, so I think that says something. I need to see these guys live.

  • BEFORE YOU COMMENT: Have you seen them live?

  • The amp setup looks like Stonehenge.

  • its metal for whales!

  • Are you completely deaf at the end of this??

  • lovely!

  • PART 2

you have to get too a live gig to totally understand what they do imo, through earphones or pc speakers the true power of there sound doesnot come through. I bet if anyone who says this is crap went to a live show they would be hooked like i am. I had been to dillinja (drum & bass WORLD RECORD HOLDER) & his rig was nothing too the bass weight from sunn's sound system.

  • Was this from when the Domkirke album was done? Absolutely beautiful :)

  • This is absolutely the weirdest "music" I have ever heard.

  • @quanmandetil Because you've probably only ever listened to whats been spoon-fed to you by the media instead of choosing your own preferences.

  • @MutedChord Because listening to the fringes of the definition of music automatically makes you cool, right?

Seriously, I wasn't bashing it, I was simply saying it is odd. Don't piss yourself looking for an opportunity to preach your underground music spiel.

  • Honestly, I don't get this despite being a guitar player who loves the hard stuff. The guitars are downtuned alright and the amps are awesome, but I don't think the riffs are that hot. I find this a bit pretentious. But, hell, good amps and equipment...
