  • He was a genius, and Warner Brothers knew it. But they didn't know what to do with him. You might never have heard of Mitchum, Brando, Dean and Clift in the same way. You would have heard of all of them, but not in the same way.

Garfield would be 99 years old in March of this year. It's an old battle.

  • John Garfield is a terrific actor.Did anyone see John Leguisiamos tribute to John garfield on TCM Europe this past summer?

  • John Garfield and incredible actor. So underrated but wonderfully talented. He made some really good films: The Postman Always Rings Twice the original version is something to see! Humouresque with Joan Crawford another terrific film. Body and Soul the original version! and many more. Sadly John was a victim of the McCarthy era when Hollywood was finding communists all over the place. John was used as an example even though he was never found to be a commie., A sad & distasteful time.

  • Does anybody know something about Garfield's coming to Yugoslavia during the war and his meeting with Josip Broz Tito? I can't find anything about that.

  • Don't forget The Postman Always Rings Twice!

  • He was sensational! I love him in 'They Made Me A Criminal.' He was attractive in a rugged way.

  • Johnny Damon never died and he has returned as Johnny Garfield on the Detroit Tigers team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Karen56 He preceded Brando, Dean and Clift as a method actor.

  • Yes but don't forget the great Paul Muni ; )

  • Great actor. I've seen him in Scarface, I Am A Fugitive From a Chain Gang, The Good Earth and The Life of Emile Zola

  • I love this classic and golden Hollywood *****

  • @Boudosaved

That wasn't John Garfield. But no knock on either.

  • @grabit1 I was referring to Paul Muni.

  • John Garfield.

this guy was so damn good...

  • He sure was. Unfortunately, Warner Brothers mostly wasted him. They didn't know what they had.

  • So what's the picture?

  • Body and Soul.

  • Lemme guess, he took the money then went and knocked the guy out anyway, right?

  • You guessed right, and so did most in the audience probably, but they didn't guess the double-cross played on Garfield. Rent it and watch the fight. Quite something. Especially the aftermath.

  • mine too. I love Humoresque.....cause when they are good, Iam jealous, and when they are bad, iam bored
