@msanm5 sgt. Pepper isn't considered the best album in rock history, it's a landmark lp because it signaled a change in direction of music, culture & social change. It's the equivalent of the Internet whereas it completely changed the social landscape. Pop culture, attitudes & politics went thru a metamorphosis with it. Not every Beatle album was a landmark, that just cheapens their status.

If you're talking about multi instrumentalist then yes, JPJ wins. When I think of a muscian I am thinking of their particular gifts. In the case of Jimmy Page for example. He plays guitar. He is good at it. Better than John or George. Production wise he was innovative. Songwriting he wrote some classic songs. But when I say musician I am thinking of his guitar playing. @msanm5 You have to consider that the us releases were different from the UK releases. hence the more studio albums. LZ released the same versions on both sides of the Atlantic. Almost Famous is basically about them. Over a million people tried to get tix for the 2007 show. They still have an audience, but you don't seem them go on tour a la The Who. They stopped when Bonzo died have played a handfull of gigs for special events. I can think of only 3 uses of their songs in the media.

I fyou don't think a Led Zeppelin Rock band wouldn't sell you are stupid. plain & simple, but Page, Plant, & Jones thus far have not chosen to allow their music to be used in that way. The 2007 concert still hasn't been released on DVD or Blu-ray. As I mentioned over a MILLION people tried to get tix for one show. U2's 2 year long tour has been seen by 7 million. Ian Stewart on "Boogie with Stu" & Sandy Denny on "The Battle of Evermore" While Beatles had Billy Preston Eric Clapton and a whole host of outside musicians to get the effect on songs "A Day in the Life" George Martin produced most of the Beatles albums whereas JImmy Page had a credit as producer on all but 1 or 2.

Also LZ all albums top 10 Six at #1.

the beatles are the perfect example of a band that actually got slowly better with every passing studio album the first 8 studio albums was a slow but steady progression of quality studio albums that get a little better ! ! !

the beatles progress was very slow for the 8 studio albums and then came the white album

Each of them were & still are considered to be near the top or the top of their craft. Bonham on drums is still revered. Same goes for Page & Plant. Jones was a great bass player, but often overlooked is his arrangement skills. It is a bit cliched, but it was the chemistry of the 4 that made them great. That isn't to say that if they went out again with Jason on drums I would give my left nut to see them.
