If we take this as a learning Tutorial on Illustrator where ppl see how does every tool work it's ok, but if we speak about the icon that you created it rly s**ks. First of all why did you even used Illustrator for this icon when you actually made the 3D effect by yoursefl? this whole think can be dont with Photoshop fastar easier and much better looking. Second how can you put shine effect with 75% opacity?? it doesn't even look like shine it looks more like something ugly placed there...

Simply said....

Vector is a code based file. ( bitmap=pixel file)

Advantage of vector based files is that you can

increase the file size without losing quality.

Awesome tutorial, quick question

instead of creating the new layer with the shine on it, why couldnt you just keep the shine itself on the same layer you were working on, just put it at the top. And then put your content right under the shine layer? wouldnt that be the same effect

Did you know there is no need to write down the gradient numbers you like. Once you see the gradient on the left color indicator drag it over to the swatch pallet. Once there you can use the same gradient fill on any object. Make and drag many types of gradient into the swatch pallet if doing lots of metal shading for a unique look.

Thanks for the wonderful tutorials! Ignore the complaints about your speed, you simply can't make everyone happy. Personally, I really like your pace. Many other tutorials tend to be almost painfully slow. And by the way, I'm not American either. And I think some ppl may forget that they are getting this great info for FREE!!

If your intention is to teach anyone your techniques and we're supposed to comprehend what you say and do, why make the recording of your actions as fast as possible as if it's some kind of competition to finish asap???? Well, if you think further than the length of your own nose, you might see why I criticised this video. Class teaching using such a video on a big screen with this kind of speed, does it ring a bell for you?

It's OK to use the pause button if you sit alone and do self training, but not if you train a whole class in school. Then you don't work the way you would being alone. Says the teacher with 33 yrs. experience.

You can do it in flash if you want it for web... it's super easy... (remember to do each buttom 'normal-mouse over & hit)

or if you want it for video the after effects it's perfect!
