when i was very young back in the 60s,and 70s when i lived in miami i remember winning the balloon drop i went home with a lot of prizes and it being my birthday sitting on a stool everybody singing happy birthday i was so embarrased i wish i could find that series and see it again! all i can say is we love you chuck!!! see you in heaven!! donnie deane
I watched this show in the early 60's from Boynton Beach..My mom drove my two of my brothers and myself down there so we could be on in 68 or 69.One brother won the ballon drop and they picked me to do a PeeWee soda pop spot whioch I screwed up by downing the whole bottle (they were so little)and then making a face. They gave me a giant black cow sucker that lasted so long we ended up throwing it out 6 months later.
Loved watching this. I got picked to sing Happy Birthday in about 1961. Remember the audition during a break, and then Chuck led me down a hall to rehearse to a 78 RPM record. What a great guy he was!
my brother was on this show when he was a boy in the 60's and he was interviewed and asked "what do you want to be when you grow up?" My brother Joe said "A MAN!" I wish I would have already been born so I could have witnessed that! What a sweet answer.
I watched the show religiously from 6/71 through 5/76, over in Freeport, Bahamas - Channel 17????. Many of the kids in school with me made it over to Miami to be on the show. I still have a couple of PEACE, LOVE, and HAPPINESS buttons - I wear one with pride in big corporate meetings!!!!!
My sister & i were on the show in 1976 or 77'.It was so thrilling to be there & meet Skipper Chuck. My Aunt Kathy was so cool to bring my sister & I there.
I was on the SCS in the 60's. It was my birthday and my parents booked the show for me. Burger King must have been the sponsor because I was given a BIG whopper and I remember it was so big that when I went to take a bite of it the whole thing slid right out of my tiny hands and onto the studio floor. I think we may have even been on camera.
WOW I love the internet and YouTube for all this wonderful visual and audible history we now have access to.
I loved this show growing up in W.P.B. Fl. I also miss the Jerry Lewis Telethon. I know it's still on, but in the 70's Labor Day was ALL about MD!!! Labor Day was exciting, with big events going on all across the country, and EVERY STATION carried the Telethon. People came together back then. Today most people don't know wo livesnext door ):
They pulled my post card out of their huge drum when I was 6. It was extra long and had airplanes on it. I spotted it instantly. They then spelled my name out on TV. I won a quiz game and a P.L.H. t-shirt.
My dad worked for IBM and the entire cast would visit their annual Christmas party in Boca to give out gifts.
I was on the show in the early 70's, and won a motocross bicycle on 'Super Stakes' !! It was great!! Peace, Love and Happiness to you, Skipper Chuck!! Ben.
I was the birthday boy on this show when I was 7....But Chuck was off and Bob Weaver was filling in. Little known fact, Chuck was offered Capt Kangeroo first! Yup, but he turned it down cause he didn't want to move.
I loved The Skipper Chuck Show! I am so proud that I had the honor of meeting him and working with Chuck Zink at MDA Summer Camps in the 80's as well. He was a great person who really cared about doing great things for kids and the world!
I grew up in Miami and was on this show twice in the 1st grade. This guy was a complete *sshole during the commercials. He was scolding us and telling us to be quite, then when the cameras were back on, all smiles and happy go lucky. I swear at the end of the show he stormed off the set and did not shake any hands or sign autographs. I stopped watching it after that. Maybe it was near the end of the show or something. Would have been about 1972 or 1973.....surprized I even found this!
ZOMG! I was actually ON this show as a kid! I got to shake Skipper Chuck's hand on the air. I can still remember holding up three fingers and saying "peace, love and happiness".
Rest in Peace Skipper, your crew continues on in your memory!
@dm0ducdm0duc I was also The Birthday Boy on his show too, Chuck wasn't there. Bob Weaver filled in for him. Do you know Chuck was offered Capt Kangeroo before Bob Keshan? Chuck told me that himself when I was in high school.
I was on for my birthday also, sometime around '62 or '63. I remember that they made a big deal and had me sit alone on a stool for the birthday segment. I got a little boxed toy from them.
Scooby was a neighbor of mine a few streets over. He was just a normal guy that played that role.
I wish they hadn't mentioned Royal Castle. To this day I would give a paycheck to eat there just once more and I don't mean the one that was left in Miami.
Man!!! I remember THE SKIPPER CHUCK SHOW I remember getting ready for school watching him and i do still remember the games that they played too!!! and the song "PEACE, LOVE AND HAPPINESS, PEACE, LOVE AND HAPPINESS!!! HAHAHAHAHA I Love you Chuck Cheryl Denson 1970-1976
I grew up in Miam, actually appeared on Skipper Chuck show once, got picked to spell the word "accept" at age 9 and got it right, won a game..can't remember which one! Skipper Chuck was a mainstay for me and my siblings and friends! Thanks for uploading this!
Agreed. A native south Floridian myself and Skipper Chuck was a big part of my early morning's growing up. WCIX did that back in the day for kids...remember Duck, Duck, Goose?
Thanks so much for posting this! Being on The Skipper Chuck Show was one of my Fondest memories growing up in Florida. R.I.P. Skipper. Just to be a Dork, I say Peace Love and Happiness Skipper Chuck when saying bye or hanging up, instead of peace out or wwhatever...only to my old friends that would know what the heck I was talking abut!
Thank you for posting this. As A kid growing up in west palm beach fl, I DID NOT watch Capt Kangaroo, It was "Peace, Love, And Happiness" (: , Every Morning Before School.
Thank you very much for posting this clip. I watched Skipper Chuck as a kid in the 70's every morning before school. Had a chance to meet Mr. Zink around 2000 and the man you saw on tv was the same man I met in person. What a great man! Love ya, Skipper.
I grew up in Key West and I remember this show. In 1964 or 65 my cousins and I were in the studio audience. As black children we had no clue that racism existed during the show. It was just plain fun.
I loved Skipper Chuck!!! I still remember going down to the Gleason THeater from North Palm BEach and being on the show numerous times for Birthday Partys. Scrubby was great! I got the # for baloon drop time and got to get him with the cream pie. I would watch that show now if it were on. To bad there is not any footage around. Happy memories!!!!!!!
We used to visit Miami every Christmas and could not wait to see Skipper Chuck. Remember "Peace, Love and Happiness"? So happy to find this and know more about the man and his stand for civil rights. Very cool!
I was on the show too, with my brownie troop from Miami. I have great memories of good ole Skipper Chuck and Scrubby. It made me sad to know that he passed away in '05.
WOW... I didn't realize he was still on in 74 & 75. I was a senior in high school by then!!lol I was on the show as a Brownie with my troop in the early 60's. Great memories of him and the show... RIP Skipper.
Loved the show.Watched from South Miami every morning before school.Love the kids that would lip sinc to the hits, remember Nilda Rice, who did all Petula Clark songs? I spent hours trying to style my hair like hers & would put on the eyeliner once I got to school. That was when Burger King had the king sitting on the hamburger bun, shake in one hand & fries in the other. Too bad all that had to end. Remember DJ Rick Shaw? AM radio, before FM went mainstream was it WFUN? or the other one?
I grew up in Hollywood, FL and watched Skipper Chuck in the mornings before we headed to school in the 60's and 70's. I loved this show! Thank you so much for posting this...such great memories!
Great memories of this show when a kid in Ft. Lauderdale! My brother and I watched it religiously...and I think Kimba the White Lion immediately followed Skipper Chuck. A great 1-2 punch of what whould greatly inprove today's soul-less plastic programming.
Yes, great memories! I, too, grew up in Ft. Lauderdale and watched Skipper religiously. I was actually a child guest on Skipper on one of the days that the original Bozo the Clown was on. I wish I could find a copy of that show.I am sad to learn that Chuck Zink passed in 2005.
And yes, I believe that Kimba the White Lion followed - another one of my favorites. Can't believe Disney got away with ripping it off for Lion King. We know the truth. :)
