  • HAMILTON'S FAULT!

  • Where does the smoke come from?

  • MUNCHED nom

  • @ShinyMagnezone You sir win an internet.

  • It was Vettel's fault lets just say that!

  • @ShinyMagnezone dont think vettel was in f1 then.

  • @Verliebt he wasn't, i'm just going to blame him anyway

  • Let's start to call him Nick Heidfailed^^

  • Comment removed

  • 100% Sato's fault.

  • IINNNNCOMING!

  • 2002, the year that the Formula 1 cars were beautyful! Jaguar FTW!

  • Heidfeld was like...."I totally didn't deserve that!"

  • @psalmtone2008 yea thats what he said, when he got the renault drive due to kubica's accident as well. LOL

  • Strike!!!

  • To me it looks more like a car failure, like rear suspension maybe. If he locked his brakes and spun you would think there would be the smoke from the tires?

Anyway, I don't think either of them got close to dying like some are saying... The F1 monocoque can easily withstand a crash like this (as the video shows!), although obviously it wasn't very nice for poor Sato, minding his own business!

  • @WhiteZenith Brake faliure, whatch for the plume of brake dust before he spins

  • @CHERN0BYLCH1

    was a rear suspension failure

  • @CHERN0BYLCH1LD That was the car in front of him, his rear suspension collapsed :)

  • dude.. he got scared... he slamd breaks and spun and slid.. lmfao but that was back then hes a diff driver now. still tho.. dont flinch.. makes ya loes :P

  • i remember this. good god i was fearing for sato's life at the moment. definately one the most near-death-crashes in F1 in the last ten years, if not the most

  • i remember when i saw this, i thought that sato had died...

  • @NeoCon2K7 No, I think this is an uphill corner, not downhill. The track design did contribute to the accident, as there's a left-hand kink just before the right turn. That's stupid, because if a car has brake failure or loses control, they will go straight on instead of kinking left, and T-bone a car in front, as happened here. There's a similar corner at Melbourne, where there was a big crash in 2010 involving Kobayashi and Hulkenberg.

  • @back2frinky It depends. If 1 brake fails then it would veer inwards towards the brake that's working, so it probably would t-bone. By the way... how lucky was the Williams? Jesus.

  • It's Yoong's fault who braked earlier thus distracted Heidfeld

  • MONTOYA IS TOO LUCKY!!!!!!!1 He was already smashed by Sauber

  • I'd say it's neither Heidfeld's fault nor Sato's (how could it be Sato's? D:) It's lucky the BMW (?) didn't also get caught up in this accident. Nasty shunt.

  • Yeah, it happened, because there was an oil leakage after the engine threw a little bit of smoke... then it got slippy and... "Here I come"

  • if this would've happen .500 later Heidfeld would've hit JPM in a probably harder and probably fatal way

  • Sato's smoother revenge came in the 2006 Chinese GP =)

  • I love takuma sato. every time a race is borring he causes a crash, pace car bunches evrybody up an we get a exciteing start.

  • Well... You said it was not Sato's fault, it was Heidfeld, well... How does that work? If the car snap oversteered, he was also a passenger in this accident.

  • heidfeld loosserr

  • Im pretty sure i know more than you, you wanker! What and your comments are so intelligent and relevent to F1, "slanted eyed jap" u stupid hypocrite.

  • Comment removed

  • i think closer to Montoyas nose without ripping it away would not have been possible. i would like to see a picture when Heidfeld crosses in front of Montoya.

  • imagine minding your own business and an out of control car hits u... farked!

  • Heidfeld a rly unlucky f1 driver :(

  • @nortsoldier

    Sato as well

  • Tacuma Sato is kamikaze

  • That was, as they say, a massive impact.

  • Look how close it was for the Williams BMW.

0.1 seconds later and Heidfeld would have hit both Jordan and Williams

  • Looks like he got his front wing hit as well regardless

  • Montoya was lucky.

  • Shit - That was B I G ! ! !

  • what a fucking accident

  • I'd like to see Ralf's on-board cam (the blue-white car that Heidfeld slightly hits)

  • Me too.... I wonder how he felt when he saw that "blue thing" falshing by :D

  • actually its juan-pablo!

  • That Williams car was Montoya's, not Ralf's.

I'd like to see on-board cam too.

  • Well, sato is quite a okay drievr. He just didnt had a great car like jenson.

  • wow sato was so unlucky here!

hewas my favourite f1 driver, i want him to come back next year for one of the new teams =)

  • it was this crash at the start of sato's f1 career that made him just not care about crashing in future races i reckon

  • It makes a big boom shends shivers down my spine. that was a massive crash. glad to see they're ok.

  • it remembers me to nelson piquet crash in melbourne 2009 'the breaks went crazy' same here to heidfeld

  • I remember watching that, didnt really expect it to happen :S

  • What a retard comment from malthe122. I only can see "WOW!" from Montoyas eyes :D

  • is Sato driving the blue car?

cuase then i can see the mistake

  • umm, no. sato drove for jordan back then, so he had the yellow car. heidfeld was in the blue sauber.

  • gostei desse acidente

  • wat is sato doing?

  • driving...? duh

  • Comment removed

  • OUCH, i've never seen this angle before, looks even nastier from when i first saw it.

It looks like Heidfeld either over-corrected too much to avoid Yoong or he suffered a catastrophic brake failure, Sato was an innocent victim.

  • ufff i remember this. Its still so impresive

  • i remember this race hahaha

  • NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICK?:'(

    wtf are you doing?

  • I remember SchumiSaloZanardi, luckily she's had her account deleted, but a number of her videos contained wildly inaccurate descriptions. A true moron. Thanks for the upload.

  • Obviously, its just a brake failure!

  • Listen when they are crashing! Ow, ow, ow!

  • A race for the history books! I was there and it`s one of the best races I have ever seen, A lot of action, yellow flags, takeovers, safetycar and of course Michaels win in the last second...with help from Barrichello and ......, the first time ever that the second price winner was on the top of the podium?...

This crash was really bad and I was sure that it was serious, but it was great that Sato came back fast!

  • Wow, look how close Heidfeld is to hitting montoya. Wooooooooow.

  • How in the world could it be Sato's fault if he was about 3 cars in front of Heidfeld? SchumiSaloZanardi needs some common sense...

  • I miss so much A1Ring!!!

    Montoya was so fortunate!

  • Wrong, Oversteer. Strength is the key in 3 hours.

  • yikes

  • Sorry, I'm very paranoid with all the mixed identities she's been doing, yours is too familiar.

  • That is retarded. Anyone in the know would agree. So being 12 pints behind should result in axing? Nick Heidfeld like any others are world class, that is the meaning of F1, did you not even realise how Kubica's lap times compared to Nick and Jacques as a test driver last year, obviously you haven't. Vettel is a phenomenom, World Series Renault to F1, only Raikkonen had made that kind of leap.

  • I remember the crash!

  • I'm starting to believe SchumiSatoKubica is SchumiSaloZanardi.

  • Could it be the braking bias adjustment that is set to much towards the rear? This could cause the the rear tyres to lock up?

  • i remember watching this live. one of the worst accident in f1 history...

  • SchumiSaloZanardi sounds like a crazy bitch, is she still around or been given the boot? can't seem to find any videos of hers.

  • Seeing how we all know SchumiSaloZanardi is a moron who obviously started watching F1 much later than us.

We can conclude she uses censorship on her videos and comments like a third world country, even though it is just a sport.

  • Haha, And you think that there isnt censorship in the so called "developed" countries? man, you are really inocent

  • Can you not read? "Like a third world country"

  • "described it with great inaccuracy."?

  • what did SchumiSaloZanardi say in his vid? reply back please

  • Read my video description.

  • Hahaha, ScumiSaloZanardi sent me several harassing PMs over YouTube to me using a different user account called SSZ1. What, did she think I wouldn't figure it was her? She said she's a photographer and that she was there. Wow, what an idiot.

  • Oh, and I just read SchumiSaloZanardi's description - holy shit that is so incredibly wrong!

  • I remember watching this grand prix live, back in the day, and Brundle said something like Heidfeld broke too hard because he say the smoke of Sato's lock-up. True, it was Heidfeld's fault for over-reacting to the smoke, but it's an understandable racing accident.

Although he had been in F1 for two years prior to this, so it can't really be called a "rookie" mistake, which is why he is to be "blamed" - he should have known better.

  • Watch the video again, Sato didn't lock up at all.

  • My mistake, sorry! There was a lock-up, though. BTW my comment was not meant to try and incriminate Sato, either. Sato was completely innocent here and the Williams driver there was very lucky.

  • Yeah, I realised that, not trying to jump down your throat or anything - just clarfying. I remember watching this live, and remember Martins comment about the lock-up. Cheers.

  • hey can anyone please post a video of Heidfeld calling the Japanese team mate "Wanker!" That was hillarious. Youtube banned the video.

  • its actually a she....and yes she's an idiot.

Anyone see her comments on the Mika/Schumacher incident at Macau...? lol ...I got told to "shut up child". She probably thinks she can influence people's minds on some famous incidents to suit her blind Schumi love by incorrectly describing video's...funny thing is by posting the video everyone can see what actually happened.

  • Yeah whatever it is, it's a twat.

  • On her description she talks about how Hakkinen made a mistake and even went as far as saying she had pictures of him crying sraight after the incident. I commented and the next thing I know I'm banned and my comment was deleted.

  • SchumiSaloZanardi = Idiot

  • I emailed him saying it was wrong, in a very nice fashion, and what I got back was "how DARE you tell me what to do" (very childish) and he was ranting about Sato's "fan club" that apparantly exists on youtube (I've yet to find it). He hates Sato, because he's Japanese. He's a racist bastard and should be banned from Youtube.

  • *apparently

  • ShumiSaloZanardi is a fucking idiot.

He clearly knows what he's talking about because he knows his dates and history and stuff. It's plain to see that Heidfeld smashed into Sato, and it's not like it wasn't a memorable moment..

  • SchumiSaloZanardi, whether boy or girl, knows shit. anyone could look up dates on google damn it. I've been watching F1 since 1992, and I'm only 20 years old. I know a thing or 2...

  • "I don't care and you talk crap, I'm suck to death of poeple- who are not fans moaning about Sato and simply wasting my time!" I don't understand this, someone explain what he meant please. I won't ask him, he won't answer.

Sato wasn't that bad. He was dubbed the best Japanese racer ever on his first BAR season where he had some random good results. But on the second season, people hoped he'd add consistancy to those results, but he showed neither and an incredible lack of responsability.

  • it's a tricky one. I agree he's not exactly shown much sign of calming down (the young drivers tend to start with a more tenacious driving style, whereas the more experienced ones are smoother and more consistent) But he's quite quick. When he concentrates. (He needs selotape to hold his eyes open!) Naa just kiddin...

  • I just sent him a comment before checking this video, I'll be probably screwed too.

  • Hehe, I just sent him a message before I saw this video too! See what he says to me. Silly.

Sato (for once) was the innocent victim here.

  • that would have been fatal a few years earlier

  • someone here said that nick brakd too hard..that is wrong as well.

when an engine breaks there is a lot of oil dumped from the engine on to the track.that's what caused heidfeld to spin.

  • wooo, goodjob phix!

  • dam hell of a crash

  • Oh right cheers!

  • Ya I was trying to put a comment on that stupid description he posted as well, completely inaccurate. Did Heidfelds rear wing fail or something, I cant remember clearly.

  • The guy in front that smoked his tyres was Alex Yoong. That threw Nick Heidfeld off and he braked really hard on cold brakes which caused his car to snap-oversteer.

  • Haha, I just sent him a message explaining that he was wrong, let's see what he says to me ;)

    He's probably German..

  • Yeah, I noticed that the other video has been completely explained wrong and your version is correct. It was Heidfeld going into Sato at the AUT GP 2002 and Sato went to hospital.
