I have to give you credit, I would have let my dog have it...not because I'm a sadist, but I would have been too sqeemish to go out of my way to try to stop the dog. Especially since dogs feel the need to bring the animals they catch to you.
hahahaha! i love wiemies<3 hey hunting is what they do, i truly love his WTF face lol. My baby Jersey (11 yr old Weimie, still full of energy) is the same way. Any animal thats 25 lbs and under... he considers food
if you still read this video, i am sorry that you caught all kinds of hell from the irresponsible dog ownership crowd. i also own a hunting breed who does not kill animals. You did the right thing, and you have beautiful dogs.
@chinbunny1 Cont and for once its nice to see a video where the owner does the right thing by making the dog drop it, and calling him off. You have very obedient dogs, and that's awesome. Whenever i comment on the dog killing things videos, I get all kinds of people who tell me its natural, and you can't control a dogs natural instinct. Well, you just proved them all wrong. :P
@Anneliengqvist Its not hurting the dog mentally. A responsible dog owner would make the dog drop it, not let it kill it. Shes a great owner with a very obedient dog, IMHO.
@leevandeweyer1996 Shut up. Weims are more than just hunting dogs, they're also family dogs. Making a dog a fully fledged takes away a life from him, a life of freedmon. I do agree that the situation should have been handled better, but Weims are perfectly fine if they're not hunting. Ask 80% of the owners.
@Fluffball176 i know they are, because i have 3 weims. i know that they are family dogs, but weims are breed for hunting. so if you live in a place where there are a lot of squirrels, rabbits, birds, etc. and you don't wants them to get killed/caught then don't get a weim. unless you can train them. but thats gonna be very very hard because they have a strong instinct and its not easy to get it out..
Why all the horrible name calling? I also panic when my dog tries to catch other little animals. Maybe that's what they do, but it's sad to see any animal kill another.
What's with all these ignorant responses? A woman doesn't want to see an innocent animal hurt so you call her names? I have a "hunting dog" that is well trained and he has never hurt another animal. What if it was a cat or someone's pet? I would be yelling too at the dog if I thought it would hurt or kill someone or something. You people are creeps!
My weimar catches squirrels, rabbits, birds, hell one time she even got a chicken from one of my neighbors (he was less than pleased lol). It's what they do. If you don't want a dog that does those sorts of things, a weimaraner is not the dog for you.
u are a stupid cunt, winter caught the squirrel as a sigh of respect for you, he was also bred to do that ( he is a weimaraner), u should of praised him for it...
WE love our Weim! He keeps anything that isn't supposed to be living out of our yard. We have seen him catch rabbits, mice and birds. He even caught a pheasant once. He almost caught a peregrine falcon once!
this is what a weimaraner is bred to do to be fair. I don't take my weimaraner hunting, but she always catches rabbits and other animals. And when I walk her she always points at a bit of undergrowth, then a pheasant flies out
I understand why the lady screamed she obviously doesnt want her dog to kill the squirrel but when you have a weim you have to understand that they are going to catch and kill a few animals, my weim is not a hunting dog but that doesnt stop him from killing rabbits when he catches them.
you really should have read up on weimaraners before getting one they are pure bred hunting dogs its instinct and they are very good at it they are just trying to make there owner happy
People don't critasize the fact this lady did'nt want her dog to kill this animal, not everyone who has a hunting type dog wants it to actually kill. It could have been a small dog,a cat, someones escaped pet. It's called being a responsible dog owner, and keeping control of you dog.Ok she panicked but the dog still responded and let it go.People have hunting dogs for pets not just for hunting.
@UVA2001 True...I have a Weim....in Florida...i dont hunt....but he does chase after any animal that may adventure into the back yard....has gotten a hold of a squirrel once and dropped it immediately on command. Its not about not letting him do what nature intended him to do...its about the fact that Im ALPHA and you WILL drop that animal NOW. :) Of course he was rewarded after the squirrel got away with a treat..something I dont mind him chewing on. :)
@Damion8880 very good answer !!! i just got a weim, he is just 3 months and i read a lot about them before making the decision, they are great with people and with other animals when socialized, i know he is going to be great !!!! lots of fun and of course a big responsability !!!
lol, this lady is so annoying! My dogs are always chasing squirrels in my backyard and they almost catch them. It's a natural instinct not anything cruel, I'm always rooting for them to catch one cause those squirrels are fast as FUCK!
the weimaraner had it in it's mouth (injuring it), so don't tell the dog "leave it" let the dog finish it off, like when the weasles fight rabbits in my garden, i have to go and killl the rabbit if the weasel doesn't, but i usally take my weime, satine with me because she kills them instantly
That EXACT same thing happened in my backyard. An unfortunate squirrel fell out of a tree and landed RIGHT in front of my Weimaraner . She quickly grabbed it and broke it's neck before anyone could really react. As soon as she killed it she just dropped it and walked off.
Your scolding of a hunting dog...hunting in the first place is WRONG.
However, if you insist on training your dog counter to his instincts as so many do, at least learn the correct method of doing so. Irate hollering and talking to your dog is incorrect. Give the command, give it louder, repeat it yet louder as you did then SHUT THE FUCK UP and allow the dog to take the situation in, "soothing" him only confuses him after the fact because you punish and then reward him right afterwards.
Also Weimeraners don't HAVE to always be hunting dogs. The ones we owned never were. They are amazing house dogs and I'd be a fool not to get one later in life. I hate this stipulation that because it's considered a hunting breed that it HAS to hunt. If you don't encourage the behavior you can avoid it. Just like we did with our weimeraners. What happened here was a case of the dog seeing a small animal and attacking it, then the owner telling it that won't be tolerated. Simple.
Just because it's a hunting dog doesn't prevent it from getting any diseases that the squirrel could have carried. HAD it retaliated that dog could have ended up ill. Granted shooting a video of it would stir up trouble, but really...it was for the best. Better to be safe then sorry when it comes to wild animals. And really if she didn't want it to hunt that was the best thing to do. I've lived with weimeraners most of my life. You don't encourage something that you don't want it to learn.
Poor dog, hes a damn hunting dog should of been rewarded, his ancestors were bred for many generations for that. Stick to your beagles lady, they are about as intelligent as you.
Woah! What's with the harsh language?! I have a Weim who watched a rabbit hop between his legs and not chase it, it's not a given that they have to kill anything they see move! you are retarded!
good dog, weimers are good huntin dogs. i've been like good boy, go get a squirl. comon boy go get a squirl.. thats funny i nvr heard a squirl squek be4
yes but most dogs like my old mut would have crunched down on that and had it half way inhailed, i belive the wimeraners are inherently smarter then most dogs, just my opinion,we had 2 and ive known a fiew friends who had or have them..there loveydovey too, hehe.
Actually, the dog was just being a dog but it isn't that well trained as she had to yell alot before it obeyed. Not the worse behaved but not the best by far.
my weimaraner picked up a chihuahua in its mouth and thrashed it like crazy for a few seconds and then flung it across the yard. it lived, and wasnt that badly hurt. but weimaraners sure are good hunting dogs.
why would you spend all that money on a hunting dog then discourage him from hunting? thats like hiring a plumber then screaming at him for fixing your broken toilet. it just doesnt add up. if all you wanted was a pet, why didnt you get one of those annoying toy dogs?
my weim is getting on in years, but even in her prime she never caught anything - and believeyoume she tried! Wait, I take that back, she's always been good at catching flies and other flying bugs, and she still is. Too bad she never liked crawling bugs like nasty centipedes though - that would have made my life better in my last apartment. :)
My dog just did the same thing today. Squirrel made the same noises - I caught my dog and the squirrel was lying on its back making the noises. I left the scene - but seeing that your squirrel eventually got up and left gives me hope that ours today eventually did the same. Maybe just a state of initial shock...
I let my dog hunt mice if they ever come in the house- but he doesn't play with or eat them, he just does it as a service. In fact I think he finds them disgusting. He chases squirrels but I'd rather not let him kill those, they just seem to carry more diseases...
My dog did the same thing not too long ago and I had the same reaction. Don't listen to these people telling you you're stupid cuz you're not. If you let the dog do kill that squirrel, he would do the same thing to a family cat. You did the right thing. If a dog is not a hunting dog and will be around pets, then they shouldn't be allowed to hunt. My weimaraner caught a squirrel and I did the same thing that you did.
You did the right thing by calling your pet dog off a squirrel, since it isn't natural - no matter what anyone says - for a pet dog that is not hungry to kill animals. That's a problem with domesticated predators; they kill without reason. But you should consider enrolling your dog in obedience school so you don't need to scream at him anymore.
Let your dog chase the squirrel it was bred to chase game, scolding the dog for following its instincts is just wrong. You have to realize that the animal doesn't think like you do. In his mind he was thinking, "I got the squirrel mom aren't you proud of me!" (Assuming you are the alpha in your home).
you should have let him do it its his nature. you should get a pug or something screaming at a dog 4 doin what its ment to do is wrong. nothing personal against you im sure the dog is happy but ya gotta understand a breed b4 ya buy and encorage there natural behaviour. i have 2 wire hair pointers and a labrador and i go deer stalking. they are at home hunting with me. if i was getting a pet id get a mungrel.
two words........ completely hillarious!! and yes you should have just let the dog be a dog, privided he has all his shots which i think would be the case. look at it this way, you would have saved a little dog food.
if that woman wants her hunting dog not to eat small animals she should PREVENT THE SITUATION BEFORE IT HAPPENS!! train them before you unleash them...if she doesnt like her dog eating that poor animal why she makes a video and posts it in here...
The reason your dog did that to the squirral was because winter is Weimaraner. Weimaraners are hunting dog. They are used for hunting mostely bear and deers.
The woman didn't want her dog to kill the animal. Get over it people. Not everyone wants their dog to go out and kill animals. Hers is PET, not a hunter. In her own way she just taught her dog NOT to kill the animal. Why would anyone want their dog to kill small animals? What happens if you have a small child or get another small puppy? She has the right to teach her dog what she thinks is right. Stop bashing her for yelling at her own dog.
What the heck is wrong with that screaming woman? Weims are bred to hunt! It is their INSTINCT to hunt and kill. So a Weim is GOING TO chase and kill squirrels, rabbits, skunks, cats, birds! Squirrels & cats don't stand a chance in my backyard!
Umm... Weimaraners were breed to kill small animals, retreive, point, flush, rescue, kill large game with a pack and to bullbait. Their supposed to hunt any and all things. They are a sporting breed and even if they wernt breed to kill game, all dogs are killers. Just like every other large strictly carnivore in the entire world. Dont freak out when your dog is acting like a dog instead of a cow.
anyone who says that weirmaraners are meant to kill harmless creatures needs their heads examined. they're bred to "retrieve" already dead animals. they just don't go around hunting animals and eating them. every person who owns a dog loves animals, or at least i would hope so, and wouldn't want one to harm another one just for the sake of killing. kudos to the owner of this gorgeous dog, and to the s
I have to give you credit, I would have let my dog have it...not because I'm a sadist, but I would have been too sqeemish to go out of my way to try to stop the dog. Especially since dogs feel the need to bring the animals they catch to you.

why would you spend all that money on a hunting dog then discourage him from hunting? thats like hiring a plumber then screaming at him for fixing your broken toilet. it just doesnt add up. if all you wanted was a pet, why didnt you get one of those annoying toy dogs?

my weim is getting on in years, but even in her prime she never caught anything - and believeyoume she tried!

I let my dog kill squirrels all the time...

Amoose07 2 years ago
You did the right thing by calling your pet dog off a squirrel, since it isn't natural - no matter what anyone says - for a pet dog that is not hungry to kill animals. That's a problem with domesticated predators; they kill without reason. But you should consider enrolling your dog in obedience school so you don't need to scream at him anymore.
HoS777 2 years ago
Good on you. Squirrels may be a bit of a pest, but there's no reason to let a pet dog kill one.

Lady, your a nutcase. Let the dog kill the damn squirrel you tard. What the hell is wrong with you? Why do you even own a weimarener?
BlueFlame1365 2 years ago
BTW, a squirrel is a PEST...
lol
Listen to you at 28 sec in, your hysterical.
tine981 2 years ago
You're an idiot.
Let your dog chase the squirrel it was bred to chase game, scolding the dog for following its instincts is just wrong. You have to realize that the animal doesn't think like you do. In his mind he was thinking, "I got the squirrel mom aren't you proud of me!" (Assuming you are the alpha in your home).
tine981 2 years ago
So is it wrong to scold a dog for biting someone that takes its food away, since it's instinctual?
HoS777 2 years ago
you should have let him do it its his nature. you should get a pug or something screaming at a dog 4 doin what its ment to do is wrong. nothing personal against you im sure the dog is happy but ya gotta understand a breed b4 ya buy and encorage there natural behaviour. i have 2 wire hair pointers and a labrador and i go deer stalking. they are at home hunting with me. if i was getting a pet id get a mungrel.

two words........ completely hillarious!! and yes you should have just let the dog be a dog, privided he has all his shots which i think would be the case. look at it this way, you would have saved a little dog food.

I think the woman is training them to catch and eat squirrels but she doesnt even know that...
Countdown1990 2 years ago
if that woman wants her hunting dog not to eat small animals she should PREVENT THE SITUATION BEFORE IT HAPPENS!! train them before you unleash them...if she doesnt like her dog eating that poor animal why she makes a video and posts it in here...
Countdown1990 2 years ago 6
The reason your dog did that to the squirral was because winter is Weimaraner. Weimaraners are hunting dog. They are used for hunting mostely bear and deers.

dogs don't understand agitated yelling
AyakoTachi 2 years ago 9
The woman didn't want her dog to kill the animal. Get over it people. Not everyone wants their dog to go out and kill animals. Hers is PET, not a hunter. In her own way she just taught her dog NOT to kill the animal. Why would anyone want their dog to kill small animals? What happens if you have a small child or get another small puppy? She has the right to teach her dog what she thinks is right. Stop bashing her for yelling at her own dog.

YOU ARE A FAG
dbeetz1 2 years ago
What the heck is wrong with that screaming woman? Weims are bred to hunt! It is their INSTINCT to hunt and kill. So a Weim is GOING TO chase and kill squirrels, rabbits, skunks, cats, birds! Squirrels & cats don't stand a chance in my backyard!
sem53 2 years ago
Dont freak out when your dog is acting like a dog instead of a cow.

yeah thats right teach that squirrel a lesson

anyone who says that weirmaraners are meant to kill harmless creatures needs their heads examined. they're bred to "retrieve" already dead animals. they just don't go around hunting animals and eating them. every person who owns a dog loves animals, or at least i would hope so, and wouldn't want one to harm another one just for the sake of killing. kudos to the owner of this gorgeous dog, and to the s
