I would stay away from the History Channel's version of "history." For example, Pierce's son, Bennie, was not decapitated as described here, just crushed. A minor point, perhaps, but overdramatizing history for the sake of ratings makes the entire program suspect.
The documentary on Franklin Pierce by Tom Krzywicki is much better. His youtube account is Bigt020. You can get copies of his documentary at the Franklin Pierce hhomestead in Hillsboro, NH. or I think on amazon. It's really good, and well worth it.
Btw, ashevillejax, Barbara Pierce Bush may be related to the family, but she is definitely NOT a direct descendant of Pierce considering his 3 sons died very young under tragic circumstances (the oldest was 11). Pierce is also memorable for having memorized his entire inaugural speech and delivered it without notes.
Of course having not said "so help me God" with a Bible also makes him a favorite of mine.
