Keep in mind that it does not have ANY SOUNDS IN IT. It is a MIDI CONTROLLER for an outside MIDI source such as a digital Keyboard or a Patch bay.

Well, yamaha hasn't made a keytar in ages, and roland produced one just a couple years ago, so... roland's newest keytar probably has better sound and compatibility and all that. i haven't played one, though.

well, technically yes, but w/ a keytar, you'd be playing more one-handed stuff, even though you CAN play two handed on it, plus you'd need a synthesizer or keyboard w/ MIDI to play one like the guy has in the vid.

well, people are buying them, but the newer ones are so damn expensive ($1000+) nobody really has the money for them, plus you have to already have to have a sound module for the sounds, b/c they're only midi controllers (i.e. they dont make their own sound)

Just wanted to ask ('cause I'm goin' to get a keytar of my own) that do you have to plug it somewhere before you can play it? I read that you have to plug it to... something or you can't make a sound with it. Or does it just run with batteries?

it runs off of batteries, but it outputs through midi. You'll need a midi program. This way you can make your keytar sound like any instrument. I used the program "Reason" for this certain video. Hope that helps :)

sweet ax, watching this made me dig through my old stuff to find Super mario land, i learned to play this song on my keybored after watching this with this program called Synthesia that lets you plug your controler into your pc and play midi files. i use VG music to find songs an play n learn em and its free

A keytar is just a smaller keyboard. They're the same thing, the keytar is just lighter and has a shoulder strap (and most don't have as many sounds on board.)

Cailska if you were watching the video properly it says "Super Mario Land" It's from the original gameboy.

As for the video itself... I love how you cut from natural squarewave into your playing... I guess I can put holes in my keyboard and hold it on my shoulders to the same effect... but why waste that effort... my knees work fine ;)
