  • I could eat a lot of cheese to this song

  • Great music, great vid.

  • A song filled with fuckin feelings. I can almost feel the weight of the world over my neck.

  • you, my friend, have made a very impressive video and I belie

ve the year was worth it

  • nice video. I like it a lot. especially the one from the other site. How did you make this?

  • @neurosis2012 No, The Mars Volta is a progressive-experimental rock group with members of At the Drive-In. You're thinking of 30 Seconds to Mars, the terrible pop-rock group.

  • MY EARS. MY EYES. HOLY FUCK I CANNOT HANDLE THIS EARGASM.

  • those saying it sounds like the mars volta...its very different to me. maybe earlier mars volta, but from frances up to bedlam TMV's music has a certain humor about it that i don't hear in this song. and they've never been quite as spazzy, except as the omar rodriguez-lopez group a few times (they're practically the same thing, read omar interviews). btw i love that "truckin" is in the related vids lol i actually love the grateful dead.

  • boom !

  • never heard of them before...

    I'm amazed...

  • As far as comparisons to the Mars Volta, a famous Hungarian composer, Belá Bartók, once said that everyone has roots in the art of some former time. It reminds me when Deloused in the Comatorium was released, many compared the Mars Volta to sounding a lot like Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd.

  • Definitely reminds me a lot of The Mars Volta, sounds cool though.

  • Are you kidding me, this is a stunning video. Really love it.

  • I made the mistake of eating heaps of acid then listening to this album. Now I love this band too much. Oh wait, no such thing! :D (Seriously, I was flying through a cardboard cut out arctic glacier on a Z. Hill powered rocket sled, ice roostering with every hit while guitar lines wormed in and out of knotholes in a tree. Pretty good!) The album cover made a lot of sense too. Peace.

  • reup in 480 PLEASE!

  • does anyone knows who´s the singer??

  • @0m4r19 Aaron Ross. :) he also sings in Amaranth with Spencer Seim on drums, and has solo stuff as well.

  • how many members are there now? i can hear 2 guitars, but don't know if they have 2 guitarists or he's just layered the guitars, totally agree with the above comment not bothered whether they have vocalist or not, this sounds fomniminal as does their work as a 2 piece, always great to listen to talented musicians playing great music especially when they have crafted their own unique sound. good work on the video, really suits the music

  • p.s. It ain't Cedric on vocals but that young chap behind the mike (Aaron Ross) definitely sings with the same bravura that Snr. Bixler-Zavala does.

    Terrifyingly epic.

  • The last minute of this track for some odd reason almost brings me to tears...the strident yet emotional urgency of the vocals, the chaotic maelstrom of the clattering drums and guitars, the pleas of "rain on us, holy fire, rain so loud, ghosts retire, rain on us, holy spirit, rain so loud, ghosts can hear it"...

This whole song is akin to a spiritual experience, one that is almost unfathomable to most mortals, and dear lord, it tugs at the heart strings.

    Fucking brilliant song and band.

  • I never really noticed how similar Volta and Hella were until Cedric's vocals were put to Hella's music.

  • @trtisme once again, NOT Cedric... Aaron Ross...

  • @marcel44444444 im not going to argue. but it sure does sound alot like cedric at first listen

  • @ If you haven't heard it, you should check out the album 'Cryptomnesia'. It's a collaborative band between TMV and Hella.

  • @purplehaze0120 yeah man, i've heard that. i quite enjoy it

  • Comment removed

  • @marcel44444444 better than Cedric.

  • @stevestjamesprogram DIFFERENT. Not better. Just my opinion.

  • hella should make a cd with cedric.

  • @peppercock check out El Grupo Nuevo de Omar Rodriguez Lopez.... Drummer and bass player from Hella, singer and guitar player from Mars Volta.

  • @marcel44444444 yeah i have that cd. altought i still realy like the mars volta and where they are going musicaly. i kinda hope they make another cd in the style of de-loused in the comatorium. or atleast an ep. ja.

  • @peppercock Personally I enjoy the direction they took their albums... but afte rthe last one, I do hope they get a bit heavier.

  • Although this does remind people alot of TMV, i sense more of a mathematical aspect to this song. Zach Hill goes OFF on those drums.

  • I just had a seizure.

  • is that cedric?

  • @MONSTERQNUG No... No way.... Would be amazing if they had him do it... but it's just some other dude....

  • @MONSTERQNUG from mars volta/atdi? no i dont tink so, but it sure sounds like him!

  • @jacobelder yes it is

  • Can someone get me an aspirin?? i think i just have some brain damage!!!

  • When did Hella get a singer!?!?

  • @OSWNOSWNOSWN since they were signed to ipecac i imagine

  • Can somebody say 'The Mars Volta'? lol

  • are these guys still together?

  • Hella with vocals is insane. This guy's voice fits so well. This album fucking rules.

  • Ur animations are brilliant.. I luv this entire CD.. LIsten to Beach House's ""Teen Dream""... PLz This album needs to be heard!!

  • i do not know who you are but i love you for making this (!)

  • the guitar reminds me of omar rodriguez lopez

  • @1dotonly omar ripped off of this band a lot. hell, zach hill is his drummer on his solo stuff.

  • The frenetic movement and slower parts compliment the music perfectly. I dig this so much.

  • I avoided this video for years because I didnt want to ruin what this song makes me imagine. Now that I have seen it, the video is shockingly similar to the visuals I have been trying to preserve. This is the most beautiful song ever written.

  • This video and Ian Hill should get awards. This is incredible. Reminds me of things i've seen during hypnagogia. Intense. The camera shake at 2:54 is just....wow.

  • Heckasweet

  • Hella make me want to marinate my musical soul in reggae reggae sauce so it can sound this awesomley spicy

  • What timing is this in? I can't frigin figure it out xD

  • @HPrototype1 ahaha you'll never know

  • @HPrototype1 4/4 just a lot of syncopation

  • @DiatonicSoul

    HOLY SHIT YOUR RIGHT!!!! D:

    Howd you do that xD

  • @DiatonicSoul Most crazy sounding time signature music still has to have a structure to go by, I just tap my foot and count the beat, then subdivided the beat to quarter notes. Listening to a lot of music like this helps, now Meshuggah fucks me up a lot trying to figure out their time but they still use 4/4.

  • Also, the snare starts out 4 beats to key in the band.

  • Great vid. Hella is hella good.

  • wonders when defecations and orgasms will stop being used to describe how much you like good music, can't you find something else???

  • hella makes me shit my pants and orgasm simultaneously

  • @whitekracka

    lol

  • if anyone is into wierd folky stuff aaron ross has great solo stuff on grassroots records. I actually got into aaron ross before i got into hella but Hella is sick

  • This reminds me of what The Mars Volta would sound like if they were good.

  • @skotafactor haha I know what your saying there

  • @skotafactor....???.... the mars volta are good!!...(amazing actually), the dudes from hella did a full album and project with Omar Rodriguez Lopez (the guitarist). They are pretty much good friends. The album is called "Cryptomnesia" and may I add that its one of my favorites of Omars solo stuff!! :)

  • @sydswirl I'm not denying that they are talented, their music is just hit or miss with me. I can understand why people like them, but they're just not my cup of tea. This song reminded me a bit of them, but I really enjoyed it, and that's where that comment came. Sorry if I offended you, but everyone has different tastes.

  • SOooooOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooo()()()()()()()()()()()00000000000000 good.

  • aaron ross is beast, i dont see why people would dare hate on him.

  • I freaking love this video

  • i hear that zach hill is on vocals?????

  • aaron ross= vocals

    BUY THE ALBUM

new Hella later this year... say what? TWO PIECE get excited.

  • God this is perfect.

  • @wafflegamer01 Gotto be pretty hard to read the line at the top:

HELLA - official video for 'ungrateful dead'

  • with cedric??

  • @TONIJUACID

you mean the singer of mars volta?

no this is aaron ross, his voice is often compared to cedric's in an awesome way.

  • THIS is what I'm fucking talking about.

  • i think alien vocals would fit better

  • WHAT!!!!!!

  • Vocals, no vocals, I don't even care; Hella is amazing! This is probably my favorite by them. Definitely click link to the hi-res version --guy is right, you can see a lot more detail that was totally lost when the video was compressed.

  • wow i have been listening to TMV for months now and never heard of this band...glad i finally found it

  • the singer sounds like cedric from tmv and atdi.

i knew Omar was working with zack hill, so it wouldn't suprise me

  • @myguitardidyermom12 It's Aaron Ross, but Omar and Cedric did something with Hill on a separate project

  • @Deeprive Cryptomnesia!!!!!!!! ( the name of the album with hill and omar and cedric)

  • i dig Hellas duo stuff but i kind of prefer with a bass and singer, its just more structured. theres something to follow but its still not extremely accessible.. plus the bass player is sick too

  • I like the singer. Alot.

  • @marcel44444444 I like alots too, they are fuzzy =)

  • @marcel44444444 Look up the band "The Mars Volta". It's the lead singer.

  • @trtisme Uhm, no it isn't.

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah im guessing the author couldnt find good hella videos to post up which is why he chose "El Grupo Nuevo De Omar Rodriguez"

  • are u certain of that?cause the video and the music are really well synchronized :s

  • Is this Hella? I mean...THE Hella i know from Sacramento/California? One guitar, one drummer an there it goes?

  • yeh hella made an album w/ a singer bassist and another guitarist, its OK but prolly woulda been cooler if most songs were instrumental. but theyre working on a new album as a duo again.

  • Sounds like The Mars Volta.

  • These guys made an album with half of the mars volta. It's called "El Groupo Nuevo De Omar Rodriguez". Its really good stuff.

  • ?

    Not really.

  • In what way?

  • In what way?

  • Such a fucking awesome video.

  • this song sounds like a huge cluster fuck, but it works

  • When are these new gods coming to louisville?

  • I second this

  • Except, this songs sounds a real fucking lot like them.

  • i agree bro,

  • im robertthehobo and i only like hold your horse is, dur dur dur dur......

eat shit and die you retard.

  • love this song man the drums are killa

  • se parese musho ala voz de cedric bixler

  • the outro is a musical orgasm

  • Comment removed

  • coolio

  • MARS FUCKIG VOLTA!!!

  • Uh... no. Hella.

  • dude i heard it too. i didnt want to tho

  • Comment removed

  • fuck There's no 666. it's simple not hella

  • Well done, sir. A frenetic song deserves a highly energized and spooky video, and this fits well. Nice pacing and interesting use of doubling and blurs.

  • esa rola es Horseback Tenors del discoDe-Loused in the Comatorium la version japonesa

  • Claro que noo! esa cancion es "The Ungrateful Dead" de Hella, el que canta es Aaron Ross.

  • Fucking phat ass graf/x and music.

  • lol no its not cedric, but he has that kind of tone to his vocals.

  • wow.... this is exciting... please tour close to me *cross's fingers*

  • amazing

  • Great video. This should be re-uploaded since youtube has the watch in high quality link now.

  • The animation was really good (i clicked on the link)

  • Cant wait for El grupo nuevo. never listened to them but i swear this makes them TMV's twin or cousin or something...I like it!!!gotta listen to more.

  • theres a trailer on youtube of some songs.. it sounds so sick

  • watch out mars volta, here comes hella

  • Exxaccctttllllyyyy...

  • Haha, El Grupo Nuevo is a colab between two Hella members and two Volta members.

  • actually 3

  • Some shit-kicking grafix.

Hella kix their own shit obviously.

  • anyone bought zach hill's solo album yet? if so is it good?

  • Yeah, really good! I like his singing on it.

  • Mars volta without the spanish... hell yeah... j/k

  • Chinga tu puta madre or in english go fuck your whore mother :D

  • i don't get all the hate on 'new' hella. for mine, 666 is a great shot at translating their duo madness into a full band setup.

  • It had a certain charm when it was just the two of them, I guess?

I like both, but liked when they were 2, just because it was a little more unique as an instrumental(mostly?) group.

  • its math rock fag deal with it

  • what IS the real Hella? i bought this album thinking it was their first. and i loved this album.

  • i like Mars volta but hella is not mars volta at all. but zach hill would be pretty cool with volta.

  • haha, funny you say that.

El grupo neuvo. check it out.

  • I must admit that this is not nearly as great as the older hella but you know I really liked mars volta's deloused in the comatourium and disliked everything they did after that. so for me this is kind of a win lose. I enjoy the feeling I get from it that kinda reminds me of the older mars volta but looks like the hella im used to is gone...

  • Haha, I'm lucky because I really like both old hella and new and both new and old mars volta. It's kind of like win/win/win/win for me :D

  • normally people don't say anything worth while on the internet.

    you disprove that.

  • aphexpusher:

  • normally people don't have anything worth while to say on the internet.

    you disprove that

  • uh.... ok? lol well anyhow most people disagree with what I had to say. meh. most people cannot discern good music from bullshit either so whatevs.

  • That's not really something worth saying, I'd say.

  • i didn't like it at first either but it's really grown on me! give it some time cause i feel it only gets better the more you listen to it.

also check out aaron ross' solo album "Shapshifter"...its soooo good and it helped me like his voice a lot more

i can't even imagine where they'll go after this...

  • ew hella just lost its originality.

  • this isnt the real Hella

  • hmm.

  • the sound is great but the pre-hella was my fav. this is like a mars volta album with less band members.

  • i like both, and i love volta so yeah...amazing

  • This song makes me dance x)

  • God Hella sucks now with a singer... go back to the duo guys

  • fav song of hella

  • I liked their old stuff better. Songs like Anarchists have fun have that experimental and free style that I love about them, then the vocals kick in and that stuff seems lost. I mean, just because they have a vocalist doesn't mean he had to be on every song. Use the vocals where they are needed, not just because you have them.

  • I agree with you 100%.

  • Dude, this is incredible stoned.

  • Sounds like more spazzy Muse. Hella 2 piece was way better.

  • That is one cool video :)

  • Reminds me of The Mars Volta meets Les Claypool, and King Crimson.

  • hella yes!

  • They are definitely contemporaries as the Volta, similar vain, but two different visions. They are definitely the 2 best bands around right now, with Man Man a close 3rd

  • at first it did sound like mars volta but when you listen to it more and more you realise mars and hella are on totally different planes of existence, especially the drumming, and the singing, this guys voice is way less shrieky and high then mars. just putting it out there.

  • Just to add to that, I'd say Hella isn't nearly as versatile. I love them both though.
