Nice class and seems a good group. I've noticed the Russians seem to spend a BIG proportion of their class time (like 50%+) doing drills which are variations/extensions of the four basic exercises - eg push ups on your partner.
Looking at this vid I can see how uninitiated would look at Systema drills and be perplexed by the idea that it prepares a person for combat. But once you try it... :)
@Donkyfishy Hi. I think "both and more," but esp important to punching. Push-uper is developing wrist strength, dynamic strength and muscle/psychic memory of applying power to human bodies, which are not static objects. This is hard to do and not fall off! Yr arms remember what bodies feel like and that helps when it comes to punching. Also psychicly, the 'passive' partner is learning to relax and not be tense, and the 'active' partner is learning to overcome inhibitions re hitting humans.

Is the push up on partner thing simply conditioning or is it related to punching? or both?
