How are they taking it too far by introducing something new? DJing has been around for a long time and I think it's great that they made a game like this, to get that feel of being a DJ. Same as not being able to afford an electric guitar, or drums, you can get a feel of what it could be like.

Crossfading come to play when you gonna make the transition between 2 tunes,usually pretty slow,to make it seem like the mix is one long tune! However,this game contains "Beat Juggling",in which you play and rewind 2 tunes and use the Crossfader to not make not hear when you rewind the record. It's kinda hard to explain,so just watch some tutorials if you're interested.

DJ Hero is a spin-off of the Guitar Hero franchise,so in a way,it's kinda like Guitar Hero in the way that colored notes come down some sort of board!

You can connect a GH guitar and play some songs,it's called DJ vs Guitar. The game does support Microphone,but i don't know how it works in the game.Maybe like Karaoke,i don't know...

And drums,well, i don't know,it's all about the beat you know! xD
