  • no bloody reason to laugh. if you laugh, you have no heart dear.

  • bless you, aussies. no other place id rather be.

  • hahaha XD i was hering this song in english class i and the other was like HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA XD

  • wish I one day could visit your beautiful country. And I love this song. :o)

  • @ankiystad hey i wish you could come to Australia to we are a plesent pepole and i like to think that we are nice pepole to but thats me hope you can come soon

    your freinds from Australia

  • I heard this song as was on my work experience at a school in my town, they are using it as part of their school play, i heard it, and i think i'm in love with it haha!! Proper music :D

  • This is a terrible bastardization of an Australian classic. Screw all the drunken yobbos and bogans who love this version.

  • i ENJOYED SHOWING THIS TO MY LITTLE GRANDDAUGHTER UNTIL WE SAY THE MAN GIVING US THE FINGER!!!:-(

  • @Nanaknows60

I agree! I wanted to show it to the kids at our library program on Australia...but now I'm not going to since that picture was in there :( How totally unnecessary...

  • I love Slim Dusty's version the most.

    Love his voice!

  • I read that an American music publisher got a copyright on this after the songwriter died, and that in 1996 at the Olympics the Australian government actually had to pay them for the right to play it. Is that true?!

  • @verdew8181 no

  • Bloddy aussies

Go Britain or preferbly England (pommes)

    Marvelous country though

  • Bloddy aussies

Go Britain or preferbly England (pommes)

  • @blahblah48856 i am aussie! were awsome!!!!!!!

  • One of my teachers growing up used to tell me that the Waltzing Matilda was actually a duststorm.

  • mum's famous drinking song!

  • oh, i love this song! and australia is a realy nice country, someday i gonna visit it.

  • @Pandaify79 They're party people, and they like to travel. :) Good folks.

  • ....what is this song ABOUT?

  • we all shagged Matilda we all shagged Matilda and she moaned and she groaned

  • 11 people couldn't fit the jumbuck in their tuckerbag.

  • I remember manning the rails steaming into Fremantal, they played this tune on IMC. I'll never forget it. I still donno what in hell he sang? Billy boiling your jumwut?

  • @ingramjd I spent a year in Australia in my early 20's and came across alot of interesting aussie slang. A billy is a kettle used over a fire, and a jumbuck, not a jumwut, is a sheep. Can't wait to go back again. Miss that place every time I think about it.

  • @kickazz29 A sheep??? Lmao the Aussies have a fun word for everthing. :)

  • <3 Love australian accent.. <3 Good on ya mate! :D From norway..

  • Where's Melbourne, Australia's greatest city in every way? Get with the times!

  • We miss you Slim!!!

  • I visited Brisban and Tangalooma Island and they were great!

  • gutsy

  • I would like to dedicate this song to our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and father-in-law, who passed away a few days ago. He loved Slim Dusty and his music all his life. Although he never recorded his own records, he sang country himself at many venues throughout his life. Back in the 1950s he was chosen by Slim Dusty to perform with him at many venues. My father-in-law meant everything to me...........

  • ha 2:03 sry

  • ha 2:05

  • This reminds me of when i used to live there <3 :'(

  • i love this song

    my grandpa sang this song

though he was Irish he loved it still :D

  • This is Australia not Irish or Canadian.

  • this song...well i'ts very sticky...some how I feel like a bit sad...but also cheerful..like sawgman wandering around..but givin' a damn about luck!

  • Happy australia day to all :)

  • Australia ! I love you !!!!!

  • I like that Oz national anthem. though a bit puffy having an anthem about matilda

  • Matilda is a backpack that bushmen use to carry around with them.

  • i wan2 move Australia so bad

  • Ive just bought a budgie and called her Matilda ,i was born in Australia and budgies our australian ,a great song which i had on record lovely video love Shirls xx

  • I loved Australia when I used to visit there. The people I found along the way were very friendly and helpful to an American fumbling my way about trying to see everything I could...THREE CHEERS FOR AUSTRALIA !!!!!

  • @SpeedyNeutrino43 thanks, im a aussie, and never thought anyone would say that :)

  • @SpeedyNeutrino43 Thank you lol, we're very nice.. :) yes I am aussie..

  • Me encanta, me encanta, que recuerdos de Australia, tengo un koala que cuando lo pulsa me canta esta canción. VIVA AUSTRALIA!!!! PD: los de orange se han copiado de la canción

  • the pictures don;t make sence BUT THIER BEAUTIFUL AND GREAT !

  • Mates, this was the video that gave me my first taste of Slim Dusty... I've never heard of him until this... and what a song too! This is my favorite version with beautiful pictures... This song led me to other popular Slim Dusty songs Like Duncan, Pub With No Beer, and G'day, G'day. I then bought the album THE VERY BEST OF SLIM DUSTY, and now I have a whole collection and channel on YouTube devoted to Slim Dusty! I would just like to say thanks, after all these years!

  • If so , I am very happy . And you can think what a miracle is this YouTube site . It really can influence our lives .

  • I never heart a better country singer. Slim is the greatest.

  • "YOU'LL NEVER TAKE ME ALIVE!" said he.

Gives me goosebumps. Power to the people, swagman! :(

  • "And his ghost may be heard..." - Now THAT part gives me the creeps. I support the swagman though for stickin' it to the man!

This song is my morning alarm clock by the way. And I'm a primitive, hairy Norwegian.

  • Australia is sooo beautiful!!

  • It's a sad song if you read the meaning of the words. The Swagman (who's a traveling craftsman) put the Jumbuck (which means un-tame sheep that hasn't been sheered) in his tucker bag (food bag) and the Squatter (person who owns land illegally) came with the police to get the sheep back.

THE SHEEP DIDN'T BELONG TO ANYONE. IT WAS UNTAMED!!!

So the swagman committed suicide for the simple reason of being accused of stealing

I wonder what ever became of his billy? Did it ever boil? hmm..

  • on the other hand, anybody claiming unbranded livestock might be called squatter, the swagman took it ignoring whether the jumbuck -even animals need some taming haha- belonged to anyone, but tried to keep it as his only valuable belonging (forget about the billy: it must have been too hot to get before running away).

the swagman could have prefered his life alone for sure over the jumbuck and the risk of losing it all...but that risk was unbearable, and dammit he bore it too little

  • 2:01 I want a link to that pic!

  • This is my favorite version.

  • My Uncle, Aunt and cousins live in perth, my Grandparents used to visit about every 3 years or so, when I was about 2 or 3 they brought me back a teddy that sang this song. for years I thought it was "Whoa Sing Matilda!" haha

    x

  • fantastic what a country no wonder so many people want to live there and visit .

  • i know some of it

    billy: can or pot

    Swagman: hobo

    Jumbuck: Sheep

  • I figured a lot of it out by looking at the pictures in this video.

  • Nice song, but you need an English/Aussie translation book to understand it.

  • some more

    Billabong: Waterhole

Swag: Kind of a sleeping bag, Aussie version

    Coolabah Tree: Gum Tree, Eucalypt..

    Tucker: Food

Squatter: Farmer, Sheep or Cattle owner on his own land

  • This music will never die! =)

  • 0:12

  • makes me proud to be an Aussie

  • Did you know that Americans invented country music? They also invented God, Apple Pie, and DNA. Important one, that last one. Without DNA no one would be alive. God Bless America.

  • they also invented America itself, there was a void before the boats arrived.

    thanks for being honest beans

  • LOL i dont think americans "invented" DNA how do u invent DNA its like saying americans invented the leg or arm

  • Yes.... I was being sarcastic because Americans think that they invented everything.

  • brilliant song im British but Australia is beautiful

  • Dale,

    This one's for you, mate...

    - F & S & F

  • this video kept stopping in places and It took me 15 minutes just to watch this!!!!!!~!

  • I love this song, in the UK , years, back when at primary school we had to sing this everyday in assembly ( just one of many songs -and hymns also). There was this very important person who use to come to sing this with us. He had something to do with this song .I was brought up loving this and singing it so it strikes a chord in the heart. I still remember standing in assembly singing this!!

  • I learned this song in music class it is a story that he is dead but you can still here him

  • VERY nicely put together! What a beautiful song and country.

Slim Dusty will remain in our hearts forever!

  • Love this song!

No song is better than this!

  • God, I want to go to Australia right now!

  • I am a Swede living in Sweden and I've been to many countries around the world but NO COUNTRY have allowed me to fall so hard and deeply inlove as Australia. God, I love this country! <3 AUSSIES!

  • Such a cool song. Cheery, but with rather spooky lyrics. And I've always liked Slim Dusty's version the best.

  • this should be Australia's national anthem!!!5 stars from Greece..

  • I tried to emigrate to Australia but I wasn't able to do so. Anyway, this is a grand version of Waltzing Matilda, such a different mood than some of the others. All of them good. I think this bloke has it right when he sings. "With that jolly jumback you're got in your tuckerbag" rather than "Where's that jolly jumbuck you've got in your tuckerbag." If the squatter knows it's in swagmans' tuckerbag, why ask where it is? So, the other versions are a bit off here. Thanks mate!

  • Amazing meeting Australia! Amazing pictures and national song too. Even in our country there exists text for this song. Best regards from Czech Republic

  • Yes a nice one! I have it recorded!

    Regards from Spain.
