Poor orcas.. I hope we can one day see them for what they truly are - beautiful, majestic creatures that need freedom and open spaces to roam. Wonderful tribute, great choice of music too xx
Actually, in the entire history of orca capture and display (at least back to Moby Doll and Wanda) 153 whales are documented as dead, counting miscarriages, stillbirths, and those who died shortly after capture.
Such a sad fate some of these orca's had... like Miracle for instance... she died of pure ignorance... she survived a bullet but her own tank netting was too much... I hope to work with these animals when I'm older so that I can make their lives just that little bit better... they need some stimulus...
As of January 2008, a total of 44 orcas (15 wild-caught and 29 captive-born calves) are held in 12 marine parks in six different countries. At least 136 orcas (killer whales) have been taken into captivity from the wild since 1961. One hundred and twenty (120) are now dead (88%). (An additional male escaped after 2.5 years in captivity. His fate is unknown. Most captives die before they reach their early 20s, yet in the wild, females may live as long as 80 years or more. -WDCS
i know what u mean but its not the humans wich are disgrases.....but alot of them are its such a shame to see how much the humanity is selfish and cares only bout themselves!
um well just after capture it would be stress or suicide that causes deaths. The others are probably caused by injures(accidental and self induced) and the rest just give up.
Cause of the cramped space it makes them bend and sometimes if there is a male calf, they'll tie down the dorsal fin till it stays like that as it grows older
@Supernaturalsecrets Not at all, actually. it's due to gravity weighing down on the fin. their fins are made to stand straight up and cut through water, but instead it's air. it occurs in the wild too, in residential groups of whales.
and i've never in all my experience heard of an aquarium tying a male calf's fin down, that's just moronic on any trainer's part to do something most guests consider 'an evil of the industry'.
so sad! thats why you shouldnt take orcas from their natural home!!
